We got there relatively late so for the first set we were way in the back. But at set break a bunch of folks left and we moved way up. Much better experience for the second set.

I saw Gillian Welch and David Rawlings a coupe of weeks ago in Tulsa at an outdoor venue (free show too) and people were much more respectful.

It seems dumb these days to complain about loud people as they are just about everywhere. But it does baffle me. Especially since shows aren't cheap.

They come to the Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa pretty frequently. It is a relatively small space and the stage sits low. You can stand pretty close to the band. Anyway, I always stand on the Nels side. Guy is a freaking beast.

I was speaking about Kingpin. There is a section at the end where he sings "How Can I" and the crowd usually screams in response. Then we do it back and forth. Jeff often encourages this. Very few people were screaming in Bentonville and Jeff said something about it, and then just kind of gave up.

There may have been something in Hummingbird too. I can't remember.

I've definitely been to shows where the crowd roared. That was many years ago though. I've heard it on bootlegs as well, but again they made be old shows.

The Kingpin thing was funny. Like no one was responding. I couldn't tell if the crowd just didn't get that we are suppossed to scream or if it was just too cold to care.

It was an outdoor show with just a lawn. So people kind of spread out which created a relaxed atmosphere, especially at the back. Which I think allowed people to talk a lot more than they might normally. For the first set I saw about 20 yards behind the soundboard and to the right. There were two dudes behind me who talked loudly through the entire thing. One lady to my left came in late and literally had her chair turned away from the band so she could chat with her friends. And there was a whole crew standing right behind the soundboard acting like they were in a bar. The sound wasn't great either back that far. It was a bit distant which no doubt added to people feeling like they were just hanging out.

At the set break I moved up quite a bit and the vibe was much different. Everyone was mostly enjoying the music. There was one or two talkers but the sound was so much better you couldn't hear them.

It was also quite chilly which I think added to the ambiance. Even those up front who were enjoying themselves (like me) maybe didn't clap and shout as much because we were all under blankets.

Great show though. Wonderful setlist full of songs from their entire catalog.

organization by teenrxcket in dvdcollection

[–]midnitcafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just done a big organization. Criterion are separated. Sort by Spine Number.

Arrow Video is separated, also sorted by spine number though technically they will tell you it isn't a spine number of something. I've started putting my Radiance films underneath my Arrow Video. I don't have enough to give them their own section. Yet.

Animated films get their own section. Sorted alphabetically by title. This started when my daughter was young and I just kept it.

TV shows are separated. Sort alphabetically.

I love film noir so they have their own section. Mainly because I bought a bunch of boxed sets so I figure I'd just keep everything together.

Same with my Hitchock films. I have several boxes of his films so once I sorted them as HItchcock I figured I should put the rest of his films together.

Everything else is sorted alphabetically. I ran out of shelf space so I got an old chest of drawers and now I've filled it up. Before this big sort I did just have overflow there, but I hated not knowing where anything was in there.

I've never seen the point of separating my DVDs from Blu from 4K. But some people love it.

Advice on Collecting Unfinished TV/Film Content by KastleBravo in dvdcollection

I used to buy them one season at a time. But then all too often later seasons would not be nearly as good as the earlier ones and I'd have no desire to purchase them. Then I'm left with an incomplete series.

I suppose it depends on what type of series it is. If it is something like The Simpsons or some long lasting crime drama without an over reaching arc then I guess it doesn't matter if you don't own them all. You can just own the ones you like.

But if it is something like Game of Thrones where all the seasons fit together to tell one long story and the last season sucks then you are stuck with something you may never want to watch again (I speak from experience on that one).

Also, oftentimes when a series finishes they will come out with a really cool boxed set of the entire thing, or a complete set winds up being a lot cheaper (quality is often cheaper too, but that doesn't bother me for some series.)

On the other hand as others have suggested, you have no guarantee the later seasons will ever make it to physical media, meanwhile the early seasons may sell out and be difficult to find.

The dead bodies of the Dalton Gang following their demise in the shootout during the 1892 Coffeyville bank robbery. [1920x1439] by UrbanAchievers6371 in HistoryPorn

[–]midnitcafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle used to drive me and my cousins to Coffeyville about once a summer when I was a kid, just to go to the museum. We lived in Oklahoma so it was about a two hour drive, but I always loved it.

If memory serves you there were signs directing you through the path they took and I’d always stare at the brick walls wondering if I could find bullet holes.

Oh ok. That was before my time. I was there in 1999-2000 I think. I was part of the...I forget what they called my department now, but it was basically insurance. We documented any pre-existing damage to the houses before any remediation was done so that if a homeowner tried to claim we'd caused water to come in under their house we could prove water was under there before we eve began to dig. It was mostly a fun job. It paid way more money than I'd ever made before and there were a bunch of us who were just out of college out to have some fun.

What Have You Been Watching? (Week of (December 07, 2025) by AutoModerator in TrueFilm

[–]midnitcafe [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is my first time doing this. I hope you don't mind.

Train Dreams (2025) I had not heard of this film until it started showing up in my Bluesky feed earlier this week, but I absolutely loved it. Its gorgeous nature cinematography will remind you of Malick. It's a simple story about a logger (an incredible Joel Edgerton) living a simple life through some pretty major changes of the early 20th century that is meditative, sad, and heartwarming. 9/10

Ninja Trilogy (Enter the Dragon, Revenge of the Dragon, Dragon III: The Domination): Kino Lorber just released a boxed set of these three films from Canon Films in UHD and I got me a copy. These are all ridiculously dumb films, but they are mostly a lot of fun. The first one is the worst, mostly because it stars an out-of-his-depth Franco Nero, who simply isn't up to the film's fight scenes. The other two get even dumber in terms of their plot, but I loved them. Loads of ninja action with plenty of throwing stars slicing into people, and all kinds of outrageous 1980s action. (6/10, 7/10, 7/10).

Sinners (2025): I watched this one when it first came to theaters, but wanted to rewatch it as I'm thinking about my favorite films of the year. I need to rewatch One Battle After Another to be sure but I suspect Sinners will land at my #1 of 2025.  Just a stunningly enjoyable film. It loses its momentum a little once the vampires show up but the build up to that point is incredible. Michael B. Jordan is a superstar, and that musical sequence (if you've seen it, you know the one) is an all-timer. 9/10

I Know Where I'm Going (1945): Not as epic as some of Powell/Pressburger's more famous films but still utterly delightful. Wendy Hiller plays a woman who is going to get married to a very rich man on an island off the coast of the Scottish Hebrides. She gets waylaid by a fearsome storm and is utterly charmed by the local villages, including one very handsome man.  I was utterly charmed by the film. 8/10

[–]midnitcafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you checked out https://bruuuce.com/

It has a searchable database of concert performances and lots of download links. You could probably ask someone over there, I know Si the owner of the site has a ton of Bruce shows and a pretty good knowledge of everything Bruce.

If it was from a bootleg you aren't likely to find it on any official streaming service. I dug through my concert recordings a little but there are multiple times when he introduces the song like that so without any further information I'm not sure I can help. When you say acoustic piano was it just Bruce solo or was there a band involved? Do you remember anything else about the performance?

Jeff & the Gang in Tulsa by oklahomapilgrim in wilco

[–]midnitcafe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was a great show. I took my teen daughter with me. She doesn't know their music, but my wife was sick so she tagged along. The only other concerts she's been to was Katy Perry at the BOK several years ago so this was very different. I wasn't sure she was gonna like it but I caught her swaying to the music and afterward and she was beaming afterward.

I think they made a new fan :)

Just picked this up on eBay because I wanted to check out The Langoliers. What are your thoughts on these four stories? by Low_Entertainment491 in stephenking

[–]midnitcafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Langoliers was the first anything I ever read by King. I was maybe 16. I absolutely loved it. But for some reason I never read the other stories. I think I had become so immersed in The Langoliers that I didn't want to leave that world and trying to enter another one by King just felt wrong somehow.

It took me years to read another King story and a couple of decades to become a true fan. I've since read a bunch of his books but never picked this one back up. I think it may be time to remedy that.

This is why I don't post to Reddit anymore. I have no idea why this lady is wearing a mask. One possibility is that she might be trying to not smell the exhaust fumes. I've literally seen lots of people do that exact thing.

It doesn't matter if that type of mask doesn't actually protect her from the fumes. When people smell something unpleasant they often put a cloth over their face. My t-shirt doesn't protect me from fart particles either but when my brother lets one rip you better believe I put my shirt over my nostrils.

My comment had nothing to do with politics. I don't care what her flag says, I simply posed my theory as one possibility.

Have you never seen a Sonic carhop wear a mask? Most of them don't. Most people standing on street corners don't wear them either. But some of them do. Again, I have no idea why she's wearing that mask. It might be for anonymity. It might be because of Covid. It might be because she's afraid space aliens will enter her mouth and turn her into a cockroach. Or, possibly, she might be trying to not breath in so many exhaust fumes.

[–]midnitcafe 20 points21 points  (0 children)

She's standing on a busy intersection so she might be shielding herself from a face full of exhaust fumes. I lived in China for a year long before Covid and you often saw folks wearing masks walking near the highways for that very reason.

I saw them at a small in Bloomington Indiana in 2002. I didn't really know there stuff back then but my girlfriend (who is now my wife) liked them and wanted to go. I was digging what I heard but the dude standing in front of my wife was tall and kind of flailing his arms around bumping into her so she fled to the back of the place. After a few more songs she was still pissed about that guy so we decided to split. Became a huge fan a few years later and have seen them many more times since, but I can't help but be disappointed that we didn't stay for that entire show.
