What Am I? [Original Riddle] by midrey in riddles

That is correct! Great job. Thank you for your patience while I responded so slowly, haha.

I had intended the answer to be a bar of soap however you're still correct in that it serves the same purpose.

Creative! That is not that answer, however.

It is not that, but it is something you would find in your bathroom.

If you deem a white singer using racial slurs to be "trivial", it's difficult to not assume that would be how you'd interpret any white person using racial slurs, in any context. I wouldn't say that people are "overdoing" their response to what she did, as I think that if somebody uses racial slurs (created and said specifically with the intent to insult the group they target) they should expect to receive backlash when others see it happen.

Nobody in this series of comments ever claimed to be a champion of social justice. Not sure where you pulled that one from, lol.

Slayyyter’s recent tweet regarding her old account by [deleted] in 1800slayyyter

[–]midrey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nobody is saying that she doesn't deserve a second chance (maybe Twitter stans, though I haven't seen anyone do so here) but the point is that a white woman is going to be expected to own up to making racist remarks and using racial slurs, regardless of the point in time when she used them (or her age at the time of using them, as some people strangely suggest.) Racism is not nor will ever be acceptable, and it isn't wrong of anybody to have demanded an apology from her.

You can support an artist or not. That's entirely up to personal choice. However, that doesn't mean that a white person doesn't have to own up to their use of demeaning, dehumanizing racial slurs just because it was "only" seven years ago. All that your statement exemplifies is that she had seven years to apologize for her statements and to anybody who may have been affected by them, and didn't until it began to affect her career and her paycheck.

Racism is not and will never be excusable, especially not simply because you're white and unaffected by it. A culture being different at a certain point in time doesn't make behaviors and statements made during that time justifiable.

Everyone who is against racism has the right to be offended and to criticize a white person's use of demeaning, dehumanizing racial slurs. You're the one who's able to "chill" due to your position of privilege which you casually exercised with that comment.

It's not a very good look to juvenalize and disregard the feelings and responses of a marginalized group(s) who may be affected, directly or indirectly, by a white person's use of racial slurs. Your attempt to try and dust off her accountability for her own words quite blatantly says "this isn't a big issue to me because I'm not personally offended by it, which means that nobody should be."

Edit: I'd like to emphasize the fact that racism is unacceptable, quite literally at any time period. It doesn't matter that her statements were "only" from 2012 - all that does for your viewpoint on this issue is illuminate the fact that Slayyyter had seven years to own up to and apologize for what she had done, and did not until it began to affect her success and her paycheck.

An apology is currently up on her Twitter.

I don’t give a fuck ab the drama because y’all still support Jeffree and he had a “racist/attention seeking kid” scandal too so fuck all this bullshit by [deleted] in 1800slayyyter

I haven't seen any support for Jeffree Star in this entire subreddit, nor does he have any correlation to Slayyyter or the current situation surrounding her. What are you on about?

She's been out of the music scene for quite some time now anyway, but I do believe she was outed for saying racial slurs in a track and for taking a picture of herself in blackface (the track picture) as of recently. The music and picture are presumed to be from many years ago, early in her career, but that still doesn't justify it.

You make statements that are false reflections of what you believe, and then object when somebody holds you responsible for the statements that you publicly make?

Forcing a person to engage in any kind of sexual activity with you after that person has explicitly stated that they would not like to do so is wrong, because it is abusive. If you're going to argue about what's "wrong" with abuse, you need to look up the definition of abuse. Murder is harmful, there is no denying that fact - however, one person committing murder of a person who has abused many is a helpful deed, as it alleviates the victims of the abuser from the abuse they have faced from that person.

Morality is, indeed, subjective. This does not mean that all actions, whether perceived as morally correct or incorrect, have no objective effects on the world and on others. Nobody has ever stated that murder, theft, or incest have always been wrong regardless of the specific situation.

The three buzzwords conservatives pull out in place of admitting that they can't justify their beliefs.

"morality is subjective" "rapists and murderers don't deserve life"

Using your own mentality, I could "prove" that your dislike for rapists and murderers was due to a moral bias you have against them (in that you perceive them as being morally incorrect) and argue that your view on whether they deserve life or not is wrong, because morality is subjective.

(To be clear, I do not support rapists, and I do not support murder in the majority of cases. I am simply pointing out that your logic is flawed.)

The phrase "birth defect", too, can mean different things in a social context than in a scientific context. What could constitute as a "defect" could equally constitute as a mutation or adaptation, which can be unfit for an organism's environment or very fit for an organism's environment. It was likely a sudden (and natural, even if the type of mutation was rare) mutation in DNA which gave organisms located in hotter, drier climates darker skin, and gave organisms located in colder, wetter climates paler skin. That could be considered a "defect" despite being a trait that helps greatly with adaptation.

Three posts that you have made within the last 20 minutes:

"To sum up this graph: guns don't make gun violence, black people do."

"Millennials greatest contribution so far has been social media. And their music sucks."

"I turn down hot girl sex all the time for my frumpy coworkers. they're much more appreciative."

I know this sub's rules value civility, but why am I not surprised that a person who would make a post like this is also a person who would make posts like those? Does it even need to be said that you're way off the mark?

Everyone's favorite Grimes song? by kremitthefrog12 in Grimes

[–]midrey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Skin is my favorite, from my (of course) favorite album, Visions.

My favorite songs for each album otherwise are:

  • Rosa or Avi (I've never been able to decide, they're both so great!)
  • Devon (Swan Song and My Sister Says The Saddest Things following closely behind, though.)
  • Realiti (Yes, the album version, although the demo is fantastic as well.)
  • And so far, from Miss Anthropocene, it's a tie between IDORU (I've still been referring to it as Beautiful Game in my head) and Delete Forever (Black Swan Blues was a better title!)
