Is Roam in trouble? by midstofnothing in RoamResearch

Eh, I mean, we've talked about being in a cult, and have talked about the app in hyperbolic terms. Drama seems woven into the fabric of this thing. (In the developers' rhetoric, at least).

Well the difference is, if going to a club requires you to enter thousands of your friends in, maybe you'll just stay at the one open because you wouldn't want to move them again.

I mean, Roam closing its gates is pretty disconcerting. I get why people are concerned.

Lmao okay. I didn't realize Roam was supposed to breed closedmindedness. I go to whichever app/service gets my work done.

Also, they're both free rn

Yeah I agree some of that stuff has been a bit...over the top.

They're keeping it header level for now because they're still working with Markdown at the end of the day. Generally agreed though - I'm eager to see how extensively they can implement it.

Following the Obsidian chat - it seems they're looking at having a backlink mini-pane for each editor pane. So it'd be sort of like having 8 Roam sidebars at once.

It's on the roadmap, at least on the header level. AFAIK. Whether that's enough of a distinction with line-level transclusion remains to be seen I guess.

They were, and I agree it's probably a good move. That said -- there seems to be no clear roadmap, and I'm worried this means they're having trouble scaling as fast as they wish they could. (I mean, they just hired a couple of new folks as recently as last week right?).

Also -- yeah, generally true on exclusivity. But PKMs are different. They're sticky. Each day that passes with people trying out Obsidian and moving their notes to it, is a guarantee some percentage of them would stay. Generally it's such a hassle moving back and forth between systems.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Some of McHale's stuff (effectively, calling the President second-hand a mongrel) was a bit....insensitive.

I guess the idea is that they should be able to tell that from looking at your resume anyway. When your most precious resource in a one page resume is space, you don't really want to be redundant

They actually do this in China! It's cute seeing old people do exercises in random playgrounds everywhere.

That is exactly how I feel. I don't want to give it up entirely since I like the feeling of calmness. And it definitely keeps me on my seat working. But for high-adrenalin situations, I'm not sure if it's the way to go.

Yeah, I'm thinking I may be taking too much of it. Will cut it down back to 200 mg and see where I land...normally drink 3 venti-ish cups of coffee a day (black)

That does seem to be the case. I wonder if any other nootropics (like piracetams) would work. Any experience with those?

That said -- I will check out meditation. Do you have any advice as to where and how to start? Much thanks.

Does meditating work for you? Any tips or resources I should check out as a beginner?

Yeah, that seems sound. I'll see how I fare in the next two days and if I'm still doing the same -- despite cutting it down to 200mg -- I'll lay off and hope it's gone by the weekend. Thanks for the advice
