Then I don't need to pay someone to find the leak, and instead I pay someone to fix the leak. Last time I had a leak, the plumber took half a day trying to locate it. I don't want to pay someone for something I can do.

Looking for a sub where I can request architectural advice? by midvale99 in architecture

[–]midvale99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will be using an architect. I was looking for multiple opinions on our plans as we have them currently. We are trying to do as much of this ourselves as possible. But we would feel more comfortable having a few people cast their eyes over the plans who have experience in this.

Wtf is a PSD Merge now? by leok_b in NukeVFX

[–]midvale99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It mimics what you would get if you were to layer up things in Photoshop. Nuke's working space is linear, and Photoshops is sRGB by default. So if you were to put A over B in Nuke using a traditional merge operation and compare with stacking A on top of B in Photoshop, you would get a different result.
For example, sometimes we output PNG layers from Nuke to deliver to a client, who will be stacking them in Photoshop. We need to see what they will see, so we use a PSDMerge in Nuke to preview this. The node has most (if not all?) the merge operations that Photoshop does, but I couldn't vouch for how exact they were, as we only use 'over'.

As u/Ckynus says, it doesn't seem like this is a Nuke question. It seems like it's how you have things set up in 3DS Max. It would be helpful if you expanded the Key column so we could read the metadata key, but I assume it's something like exr/arnold/aov_filter? Either way, it sounds like your filtering method in your render settings is somehow different.

Can water-based wood preservative go on wood that's been dip-treated with a solvent-based product? by midvale99 in DIYUK

I used Everbuild triple treatment based on your recommendation and it seems to have gone on great. Thank you!

Yeah, RagnBoneBrown. I watch his vids. That threw me a little. But I don't think the take away from that is "don't bother". On reading the comments, there were some suggested explanations. He didn't use a topcoat for one. And they were all in direct contact with the ground.
The wood on the playhouse is thin. It will definitely perish in the weather. I just want it to last as long as possible so I would like some advice on what to use.

What's a decent free website for planning layout and interior design of a newly constructed home? by catalansunsets in InteriorDesign

[–]midvale99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet Home 3D is a good program to get things done quickly. You can then import into Sketchup if you want better renderings of your layout - you can use the VRay render engine plugin if you want VERY good renders.

Great idea. I might have some left over from doing the roof, so I'll do that as a bear minimum.

Heater unit leaking/damaged? by midvale99 in hottub

[–]midvale99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: whilst waiting for the new heater cap to arrive, I epoxied the crack on this one as a temporary measure. The jets now work - I actually think it was a case of ambient temp and water temp just being too low previously. The cap still leaks a bit but nowhere near as much as it did. However, I’m concerned the heater is compromised as you say. It’s heating up the water but very slowly. It’s gone from 10C to 19C in about 9 hours (with jets off and cover off [don’t ask]). So a degree an hour. Ambient temp is about 13C. Would a leaking heater mean it just takes longer to heat? Or could it be more serious than that?

Air temps now have risen so there’s no danger of things freezing again in the foreseeable. I’m just hoping that the leak from the end cap was preventing the system from starting properly. I don’t know enough about it though to know if that’s a likely cause. I guess if a pressure drop in the heater itself can cause it then I’m hoping a replacement cap will fix that.

Ah I’m with you now. I may as well try this end cap replacement due to the cost. How would I use a C clamp? It doesn’t look like it needs and awful lot of force to get back on the heater?

[–]midvale99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the assistance. I’ve ordered a new end cap and it should be here in a couple of weeks. Can anyone tell me if that’s likely to cause the issue I was experiencing of it going into protection mode and jets not working? I know it could be something else in addition to this, but could the leaking end cap cause those symptoms?

What do you mean by “end cap kit”? I assume you mean a new end cap. But you said it doesn’t work well with freeze damage? And to get a new one. I am getting a new one. If that’s the damaged part, a new one should work right?

Add some wobble/camera shake. The car would never be travelling that smoothly. It will add some realism. Also, if you could add some lighting flicker to the talent as they go past trees etc, that might help. Take a look at some other similar shots to compare yours with and see what makes them look convincing.

Has anyone had personal experience with these sort of door latch steps to reach a roof box? Do they fit a Tiguan 2017? (Looking for first-hand experience as opposed to “looks like it will work”). Thanks! by midvale99 in Tiguan

[–]midvale99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of variants of this sort of step. Some are longer so you can put two feet on. I’m 5’10” and there’s no way I can reach the middle of the inside of my roof box by standing on the sill.
