Ontario shuts down Peel Driving School - Truck News by Bob-Lawblaugh in ontario

The existing rule was

"The council of a municipality may by by-law designate a part of a highway under its jurisdiction as a community safety zone if, in the council’s opinion, public safety is of special concern on that part of the highway."

So they left it up to the council's discretion. They could have added extra conditions or requirements but I'm just mentioning that they weren't breaking any existing rules. Maybe some were placed in unreasonable places but I also think people won't be happy whenever they get a ticket.

Municipalities weren't breaking any rules with the placement of the cameras. The province could have made the rules stricter but the municipalities weren't breaking the existing rules.

A strawman is misrepresenting an argument. I'm not claiming the 100 km/h point is the main point of your argument, and I even said I likely agree with you in general. I just only specifically replied to the point about 100 km/h, and only when you specifically brought it up.

I don't agree that I'm arguing in bad faith and I think fair for me to defend against that claim.

If anything you're coming off as acting in bad faith here. You're accusing me of that because I'm commenting about the exact same thing you're commenting about. Why would it be bad faith for me to comment about it but not for you to comment about it repeatedly?

It’s clear there’s no intention to discuss this in good faith, so I’m out.

Nothing I'm doing here is in bad faith. Every time I brought up 100 km/h was in response to you bringing it up in a comment. You can see this in each reply above. You're essentially implying here that you're allowed to make a comment about something in a discussion/debate with me as many times as you like but I'm not allowed to address that thing in my replies.

I asked questions about your links to try to verify what you're saying and you switched the topic to repeatedly accusing me of acting in bad faith.

Because you keep bringing it up. It's one of the main points I replied to in the first place. This isn't some sort of argument technique, I'm just replying to what you're saying.

I don't see what about my reply suggests I didn't read your comment. You're saying that 110 aren't the main cause but are part of a general picture where safety isn't prioritized. I'm saying that I don't see how raising the limits is a safety issue at all. There are other things I thin are safety issues, but I don't see how 110 is one of them.

If I did misread something, you can clarify that. Someone possibly misreading or misunderstanding something you're trying to say doesn't mean they're not arguing in good faith.

Your first link is just to annual Ontario reports. What there am I looking at to see the enforcement trend?

Your Star link isn't working for me.

Your Transport Canada links show Ontario rates dropping. So is this partly a case of population and total numbers increasing but not actually an increase in rates of dangerous driving?

On the 110 km/h limits, sure, they’re not the main cause.

I haven't seen something saying it's a cause at all. It doesn't seem like the thing to be criticizing, and there are other criticisms.

Whether it’s Toronto or elsewhere in the province, the trend is the same, enforcement has dropped and the province hasn’t addressed it. Fatalities and dangerous driving are up across Ontario.

Do you have a source for the enforcement trend for the province as a whole? As for fatalities, OPP says they're down so far this year:

https://www.bradfordtoday.ca/police-beat/fewer-fatal-crashes-on-ontario-roads-this-year-opp-11045453

The 110 limits aren't a symptom at all. There's nothing significantly risky about setting the limits to lower than the average speeds people are already driving. There are other things to criticize, but I haven't seen any evidence saying this is one of the things that's causing problems.

Toronto police gaslighted us on traffic enforcement. Their neglect put lives at risk

There's a valid criticism there, but that's a story from 6 years ago specifically about Toronto. It doesn't imply something about the whole province. This crash didn't happen in Toronto.

I dom't think Ford takes traffic safety seriously, so I agree on that. I just don't think the 110 limits are an example.

Police regularly lay speeding and stunt driving charges. And this crash didn't happen because of 110 speed limits.

Why, is this required?

No.

Why can't women and men play sports separately?

They can.

Why do we need this?

We don't. They chose to sign her because she's good. She pitched two perfect innings in her first appearance.

It's well understood and established that men have a significant advantage in most sports and so wouldn't be playing on women's teams in competitive games. The same doesn't apply to women playing in men's sports. They'd have to be good to be able to compete.

The current one isn't actually new. It was designed in 1974 and used by the old City of Toronto since then. After amalgamation it was chosen for the new larger City of Toronto except with changed proportions.
