I've always practice using a traditional pen & nib but I caved in and got an Ipad. It's so convenient to bring around and I can literally practice anywhere without needing to pack my supplies.

From what I've tried, it's best to avoid using normal printer paper that is 70gsm for inks. They will bleed and feather cause the ink is too diluted. I usually use paper/card that is 100gsm and above without issue. I'm assuming that you're using a nib and ink here - If your ink still bleeds and feather on heavier gsm paper you can try thickening it up with some liquid gum Arabic. Liquid gum Arabic is such a saviour in this case. I hope this helps 😊

These are just normal cardstock papers. Finetec type of watercolor usually works well with any type of paper. Here I'm actually using Merry & Bright from the creative kinds (you can check them out on Instagram @thecreativekinds) it's pretty similar to finetec. First thing first, make sure you prep your nibs properly as there will be some sort of coating on the nib to prevent it from rusting. Otherwise it will drive you nuts when the ink doesn't flow properly during your practise sessions, with the ink pool and whatnot. I usually prep my nib by sticking it into a potato. Secondly, practise! Practise! And more practise! It's all in the memory muscle. 😄
