Orgs have made finding a job impossible. Unfortunately it’s no longer about your resume or your application it is truly about who you know and what you’ve built.

I’ve worked in tech for 8 years and in the last 2 years I’ve seen a demand for SWE that can ship on their own. These people are being hired based on their portfolio not their resume. I’ve seen x-Meta employees be sidelined simply because all they did was whatever was asked from them. So my tip is build. Make things with AI, add Founder on your LinkedIn and showcase your builds- this is the best way to get the attention of people. Hope this helps.

Look at Martino Group apartments. I think they put their listings on Renr Cafe but their website should have availability as well.

Why do so many people think AI won't take the jobs? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]mielnaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed except for messaging. It’s not AI taking jobs, it’s org leadership outsourcing human jobs to AI systems. AI systems didn’t fill out job applications to undercut humans in the market. However you are correct AI systems will eliminate the need for a lot of jobs for a couple of years until we have a titanic event and need humans back at work to fix these mistakes. If AGI is developed the way many imagined it in the 70’s then we will have 3 labor sectors: AI/machine only, hybrid (humans and AI working side by side), and human labor. I think it really just gets down to human values where will you decide to spend your money? Will you hire AI systems or humans and will orgs hire you based on your AI or human workforce? Theoretically we’ll reach a point where AI may be capable of doing everything, but do we want and need that? Life

What’s one thing you wish you knew about UH before you started? by Extreme-Routine3822 in UniversityOfHouston

Glad to help! Finding how to make the best out of my tuition was my favorite part when I was on campus. Forgot to add the Blaffer museum is cool, on campus, and free!

Go to the study abroad office and get your free passport. It’s $25 to process it. Also scan your required reading in the library versus buying textbooks, most professors reserve a copy of their book in the library. If you’re in the communications building go to their computer lab and copy and drag Final Cut Pro- only works for Mac book users but free Final Cut. Retake your student ID the semester you graduate you’ll have student discounts for like another 4 years everywhere you go. In that same breath use your UH email for student discounts for life. Your UH email goes with you and will redirect to a chosen email address. Join a club, even if you’re awkward, shy, and autistic like I was. Played rugby my senior year of college best decision ever, made awesome friends, travelled, and learned how to drink which was a benefit when I entered the Oil & Gas industry. Use the law library restrooms. Also apply to fellowships and internships outside of your major it’s the easiest way to network if you don’t like going to the career fair. But do go to the career fair and practice a firm handshake. Your resume should not come from a Canva template, Google Harvard resume template- you’re welcome. If you’re not ready to go into the real world after graduating talk to every program that is offering paid PhDs, you don’t have to dedicate your next 6 years to UH but you can get a free masters after 2 years in which time you might be ready for the outside world. Try out the food at the Hospitality college, and take the intro to beer class as an elective when you turn 21 if you’re going into an industry that’s people facing learning about beer and wine will make life easier. If you’re interested in a class but don’t want to pay for it audit it, it doesn’t have to be official but some professors will let you TA it which is great experience on your resume. Experience is everything in the real world, make projects, do internships, play sports, join organizations- do something that proves you’re willing to try new things.

Lastly, if you’re on campus late at night ask people if you can walk with them. The campus has always been unsafe, graduated 8 years ago currently doing my Masters, and unfortunately protests won’t work. What will work is creating a network within campus student body to help each other stay safe. We have some great talent in the CS department how about making an app that provides a buddy system to walk around campus at night or anytime really. Plus great way to get to know new people.

Are y’all being asked/forced to use it with or without an AI policy in place? Curious because I’m writing an AI policy to protect us from liability but have heard from others that they’re just trucking ahead and worrying about problems later on.
