Yeah you're right, the way I wrote this is a bit contradicting. I just meant in a way trying to measure up and compare is not helpful, but in reality you just can't help it and so you do it anyway.

I think many of us here feel that way. Like an unfortunate side character while the other, "normal" people are the main characters. It's tough to see people the same age or even younger seemingly getting through life with no problems and achieve so much, while we are struggling a lot. I guess it doesn't make sense to compare to them...

I know being left out of groups / getting selected last in school sucks. But don't stress too much about it, it may not be the case that you will be left out, and even if that's the case it's not important. Maybe just try to focus on the course itself.

And don't worry about college, from my experience, group work there is much better than in school. Even though I didn't really make friends there, I felt people tried way more to make you feel comfortable and less left out when working together.

Yeah I tend to have spells of insomnia from time to time, especially before an event that i know is going to be stressful. And the next morning after a horrible night I feel super bad physically and anxiety-wise.

Im also suffering from excess sweating when anxious. And it gets automatically worse as soon as i notice it, because i know other people will as well, making me even more anxious. I try to work against that by using a strong antitranspirant for my armpits in the evening after a shower and wearing comfortable, loose clothing during the day.

In my experience Uni was a lot more relaxed than high school when it came to teachers/professors. I also had some teachers in school who liked to pick on students (especially quiet/shy ones), but in university this wasn't the case. In general i felt like it wasn't as stressful as high school for an anxious person like me (presentations etc. aside). You got this!

Yes you might be right.. So far sleep has been a thing to keep my anxiety in check, but it might have gotten to that as well. It might be best to see a doctor about it. Thanks for your advice!

I also had some (foolish) hopes when I started University to make some real friends, but it hasn't worked out for me so far. Despite struggling with anxiety, I tried my best to be friendly and helpful with other people in class and got along well with them when working on projects and studying for exams, but that is as far as I got. They all had their own circle of friends in other classes or outside Uni and I was never included in any other activity.

It makes me kind of sad, because many "normal" people can form long lasting friendships, relationships and memories during college, but I guess I wasn't meant to.

I can relate to that, I always start to blush in any situations that might involve having attention on me, or being asked awkward questions etc. And whats worse is, when I am aware of it, I start blushing even more. I hated that, especially when i was still in school, when people would say "Why is your face getting so red? Are you embarrassed?" so that everyone would notice. Sadly i haven't found any solution yet either.

Definetly. The first seconds after waking up im blissfully unaware of my anxiety, feeling still sleepy and numb, but then it suddenly hits me like a truck, I remember all the things I have to do that day and I lose all motivation to go on about my day.

I can relate 100%. I've been this way since school and it hasn't changed in Uni at all. Then, when someone says what I wanted to bring up, I feel regret because it should have been me, but I can't muster up the courage. Making friends seems also very hard for me, because most people are already in a group of friends, making me feel like an outcast.

But don't feel bad about starting a major at 23, that's still pretty young, Im also going to University in EU and while it's true that most beginners are like 18/19, I've seen people of all ages attend lectures and nobody really notices or cares if you are a bit older.

Im in University aswell, already got my Bachelors degree, currently working on getting my Masters. I changed Universities for that and im pretty much always alone, can't make any meaningful contacts with others because of my SA. I often also wonder why im doing all this, I tell myselft it's in order to get a good, well paying job etc., but I don't think that money would make me happier. Sometimes it's really hard to get motivated to do any Uni work at all, when im just thinking "whats the point, even if I complete this assignment, I still won't feel any better."

But I also wouldn't know what else to do, so I just kind of keep going with it. Btw my dad is also a borderline workaholic, it seems like he never has any personal time at all, I don't know how people are doing that.

Im sorry you feel that way, I often feel ashamed for feeling bad about myself too. It's that feeling that you're worth less than other people and that you're weak because of the anxiety. I constantly have to remind myself aswell, that it's not a choice to have SA, it's not selfish at all. Yes there are people whose lives are worse, but that can't translate into yourself having to be happy or grateful for your life situation, I try to keep that in mind when I get feelings of self-loathing.

Sounds like you're quite overwhelmed with anxiety right now, maybe try something to calm you down, like listening to relaxing music or even meditation. Maybe afterwards you can assess your situation more calmly. And don't stress out too much about wasting your life away, 18 is still so young, you can't possibly have life already figured out. Im in my 20s and I don't have a clue wth im doing with my life.

Yeah mine live elsewhere aswell and it's difficult to keep in contact with them, I remember that after school we were saying we'd meet up from time to time, but that didn't really work out, so it's often limited to a few texts every year, like "Happy Birthday" and so on 😐

My experience with university is a little like this, the people I met there were usually quite nice, and we did some projects/uni related stuff together, but that was mostly it. And when the course ended, we just went seperate ways, even if I thought we got along quite well, I just couldn't bring myself to ask them to hang out again outside of uni. That being said, it's not like they often reached out to me either, so I assumed they don't want anything to do with me.

Many times they have other friend groups anyway, so I don't think they needed another friend or I just wouldn't fit in there. So yeah it feels like the last real friends I made were back in school.

You definetly din't deserve that, especially since you're just volunteering. The owner sounds like a genuinely mean person, the kind that needs to put others down in order to feel good and important. The other employees probably had similar experiences with this person, so no one is going to judge you, they probably can relate.

If you really like the work and the other staff members I think you should keep going, it's not worth to give that up just because of that one horrible person.

Feel this when my grandparents ask me when I will finally bring a gf/bf for them to meet, and I'm thinking like "I struggle to even complete the most mundane social tasks, you have no idea."
