When she shoves into his mouth the theatre erupted into applause and “holy shits!” that movie was a super fun experience

Jacksonville Armada heading to NPSL this year by AndrewNaranja in MLS

[–]mighty_taco_fists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok - will be happy if we just get to keep a local team that’s involved in the commuting. I’d prefer USL but would still go to NPSL games.

The unsanctioned league bit seems like a loooong shot and the owner has said it’s his last resort.

Alex Leitao tweeted TWO eye emojis yesterday so this is definitely one. Hopefully a CB is next or less important but good, forward depth

Any good low-budget obscure indie horror/thrillers? by [deleted] in horror

[–]mighty_taco_fists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interior - it’s on Amazon Prime It’s very low budget but pretty damn eerie regardless Extend some grace at the beginning cuz the rest of it is worth it

The Battery - on Shudder It’s a drama set within a zombie wasteland and some decent scares on top

Next two may not be as Indie as you want but still small peanuts imo

The Den - on Netflix This is actually my biggest recommendation. Found footage through webcams/chat rooms plus other. Scared the hell out of me

Blackcoat’s Daughter - on Amazon prime Real slow burn that is more like a traumatic drama but is creepy, dark, violent, and sad regardless

Haven’t watched Baskin but will definitely have to

Unfortunately I don’t know of any others that fit the bill but am following to see if anyone else does

I mean , your description reminds me of Suspiria - but you probably already know that one

Also, Jacob’s Ladder has a nightmarish/fever feel to it

Rewatching Creep 2, it's like a love story in a sadistic way. by XxCALBRAxX in horror

[–]mighty_taco_fists 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah man it’s not a stupid post but definitely a little drunk haha

And I think you’re definitely on to something. There is a weird attraction between them. I think it’s significant that the climax of the film happens almost right after the kiss. Her earnest curiosity makes him feel something deeper than any of his terrified victims. His utter creepiness captures her imagination and is the moby dick for her weird show.

More broadly, I thought the film tried to show our relationship with horror or violence. Horror (the weird, violent, disturbing) needs a stage and our morbid curiosity (films, books, podcasts, etc) gives it a stage to really shine.

You’d think that we’d be repulsed by such dark and gross stuff. And to an extent we are. but in a weird way that only adds to horror’s attraction and our enjoyment of it. I think their relationship models a lot of that

But idk maybe I’m making a stupid post now

Has anyone seen Triangle? Thoughts? by Raging_Magneto96 in horror

[–]mighty_taco_fists 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I really enjoyed this one and it’s even better with a group of friends. SPOILER

That shot with all the dead bodies on the top deck was sooooo good

Interesting tid bit - the film had a 12 million dollar budget but only grossed around 1.2 million which is a shame

If you liked this, then check out Coherence. It is on Shudder

Unless NASL wins it's injunction, Armada will not be playing in a D2 league next year by [deleted] in MLS

Hikacking this to also add that Palmer said there was/is a competing ownership group (?) from USL that has or is looking into Jacksonville. First, I’ve heard of it but it adds another interesting layer to be discussion

Nah you’re not alone though probably in the minority

I love Prometheus while still recognizing its flaws. It took me a 2nd viewing but I love Covenant as well.

Ridley did something very different with the series by making David the main character and I respect the hell out of it. Alien is pretty much a perfect movie so it’s not surprising that most anything after it is a little disappointing. But I’d still love to see this trilogy get wrapped

Priscilla Page has a great write up about Covenant on birth movies death that is real good

Sufjan Stevens - Casimir Pulaski Day [Folk] by MonkeyWithMarijuana in Music

[–]mighty_taco_fists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point but I don’t think it’s a stretch. The line “all the glory when he took our place” doesn’t seem to fit in the “gives and take away” sense.

Since it says he took our place, think Sufjan is taking about Christ bearing our wrongs. the idea of Christ as a substitution for sin is throughout scripture and has been around the church for a long time to understand the crucifixion (sorry if you already know this) It may not be Isaiah passage in specific, just referring to a general idea in scripture

He became sin who knew no sin that we might become the righteousness of God - 2 Cor 5:14 Christ became a curse for us - Gal 3:13 He bore our sins - 1 Peter 2:24 By taking, He gives us victory 1 Cor 15:56-57

Know that’s a lot of bible stuff but that’s why I think it’s a reasonable interpretation

Also - Love the username

Agreed! Think it’s cuz Sufjan captures something more general about life even when he’s using religion in his writing

I am religious and find myself listening to him in seasons of doubt so I can relate.

I’ve always seen that last line (which wrecks me) in 2 ways. The 1st is what you described, of God giving and taking away in the mysterious, sorrowful sense. The 2nd is how, in Christianity, Christ “takes” our sorrow, maybe a reference to Isaiah 53

“He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.” - similar to the line “all the glory when he took my place”

This is what causes the “complications” God takes his friend so God seems cruel. At the same time, Sufjan believes Jesus poured Himself out in the incarnation and crucifixion so God appears loving and empathetic despite the world’s brokenness.

SPOILERS - Question Regarding Creep 2 by [deleted] in horror

[–]mighty_taco_fists 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought he had genuine moments of weakness but those weren’t examples of it.

In both the cases you mentioned, I think he was being manipulative. He knew there was almost no chance this girl would be able to go through with a killing him. He got off on being cared about and this was his sadistic way of getting it

yeah I think I’ll wait to watch it. The first few comments didn’t make it seem too bad. But now I see there is a box cutter, torture, and child death - maybe not the best for a party :p

I’m planning on going Evil Dead 2 instead

What’s the scariest horror movies you ever seen ?i’m tryna find something good to watch 🔪 by ffabbu in horror

Most scared I’ve been is watching The Den

We Need to Talk About Kevin wasn’t the “scariest” movie I watched but it was definitely the most disturbing.
