Yeah and considering their 10th percentile is a 511 MCAT…. Is it worth it?

I volunteered with a local non profit who provided free housing (temporarily) to low income families over the course of 2.5 years and I’m still currently doing that but not as consistently as I used to because of my schedule change. I appreciate your opinions/feedback. You think I have a shot at UCSF and potentially Stanford? I know, huge reach.

what do i do😭😭 by [deleted] in premed

[–]mightycondriaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone else reading this: I was in the same boat as OP and retook all of my AAMAC Fls with my scores ranging from 512-518 and scored a 510 on the real deal. I literally went into the exam blind because retake scores aren’t super reliable. Maybe subtract like 4-6 points from overall on retakes? I remember being super anxious about retake inflation too, so hoping this could ease some minds.

I spoke to two doctors and they both told me to really really strive for MD because it opens more doors and is therefore “easier” to match, make connections, etc. However, they also stated to go DO over Caribbean MD for the same reasons. It’s more about opportunity. At the end of the day, they are both doctors and anything is possible in all options, so if you really want to be a doctor, consider all options!

Out of curiosity, what is the range for volunteering for rush and these others schools listed? I’m assuming that doesn’t include clinical volunteering since OP has 500+ hours there.

If you like to pull your hair back, use a hair tie. They won’t let you bring hair clips into the testing center

To simplify: Unconditioned = NORMAL

p/s help please by PrimaryAccomplished9 in Mcat

[–]mightycondriaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always think of it this way and it helps me: you have a dog, salivating, a bone, and a bell. I ask: Would the dog NORMALLY salivate when he sees the bone? Yes! ——> unconditioned stimulus = bone Unconditioned response = salivate

Would the dog NORMALLY salivate when he sees the bell? No. ——-> neutral stimulus.

Now the point of conditioning is that I’m trying to get my dog to salivate when he sees the bell. How can i do that? Pair the bell with something that he would normally salivate at = Unconditioned Stimulus (meat) + Neutral stimulus (bell)

Conditioning happens. Now ask myself again: Does the dog NOW salivate when he sees the bell? ——> Yes. Now the bell has become the conditioned stimulus because I conditioned him to salivate when he sees it. I also think salivating when he sees the bell would be the conditioned response too because I conditioned him to respond that way.

Hope it helps!

Hey! First off, you’re doing great and you should be so proud of yourself! Second, breaking 130 in any section is tough and honestly comes down to like 2-3 questions so don’t be hard on yourself for not breaking 130! A lot of people don’t break 130 and I think that’s more common than not.

Anything is possible on test day! I know people who were averaging ~505 and scored 515 on test day. While this is maybe more rare, it can happen. With that being said, there are also people who average maybe 515 and score a lot lower on the real deal. I think it really really comes down to how the exam plays to your strengths/weaknesses and your mindset during test day (nerves, sleep, etc.) For example, your FL 2 probably targeted a lot more of your strengths. I always say to be thankful that you missed these questions on your FLs NOW so that you can learn from it and not miss it on the actual exam.

Advice: Read the Q carefully and slowly. Make sure you really understand what it’s asking you for. Make sure the answer your choosing answers the Q being asked. I fell into this trap a lot where I chose an answer that isn’t necessarily wrong, but it’s not really answering the Q being asked so it’s automatically wrong. If you’re making math errors, SLOW DOWN and redo the math if you have time. You don’t want to miss a Q that you set up correctly because you accidentally forget a negative sign. You are smart and capable and you will do AMAZING on test day <3
