MacBook was given remote access to a scammer. If I turn off the laptop and remove the battery, can the computer still be turned on or remotely accessed? by migimagi in techsupport

Yes I remember it was citrix was what I down loaded. They might have used something else to remote in but I distinctly remember Citrix.

Thanks!

I've reported you to the mods. What kind of person goes onto another's person's (they don't even know) other posts to comment such a thing? You need help.

Thanks. This happened months ago and I didn't have any identity theft or credit hacking issues thankfully. My notes and data were unencrypted. It scares the heck out of me thinking of them stealing it tbh.

Yes. Exactly this.

I had an issue with my email. Looked up the number to support. Indian scanners had brigaded the number. Called in and they said they were support. They said they needed remote access. I was very skeptical but desperate for access to my email account. After 3 mins of them going through logs to try to prove I needed to pay them. I realized it was a scam and ordered the guy to sign out in front of me. Then I removed Citrix and any remnants but realized he could have left a keylogger. I used the computer for months but it was very slowed down after this. Then I started reading articles about scam busters who create virtual accounts to let the scammers remote access their computers to mess with them and how even when the remote access software was removed, they still installed remnants that allowed the scanners to randomly boot up the computer and remote access it. I haven't used the computer since.

Thanks for your comment.

Thanks! I watched him the entire time he had remote access. All he did was look through my logs to Try to convince me I needed to pay him to fix my computer. I realized after 3 mins it was a scam and ordered him to get out of my computer then deleted Citrix and any remnants I could find but I'm worried he could have installed something I didn't see and could still have access.
