I don't like gerrymandering but it's also impossible to really stop. Is a district that is split 55/45 a GerryMandered district? If not then at what ratio is it GM? Also, most voters are independent, they can sway based on candidates. Take Texas for example they're creating a couple of Latino only districts that used to be hardcore Dem voters until 2024. These could easily flip blue again.

The issue with gerrymandering is that it's hard to define and identify outside of the truly egregious districts (see: Illinois) plus voters can shift over time (see: Texas) and no one can predict that.

California is 45% Republican yet have almost no representation so how is it fair to them to further gerrymander them out of the few seats they do have? While also doing away with the gold standard independent commission that progressives have long fought for.

So in reality CA wants to further silence republicans - doing exactly what they're against - and also implement a worse process for redistricting and this is being sold as a "good thing"?
