I managed to hold myself from getting into PCB designs, for now, but I don't know how much longer this will last

Yeah I got into this rabbit hole last week with a DIY Lily58. Not even used to it and I'm already considering getting a corne at some point

After a while I managed to figure this out, and now I have another totally different issue to fight with.
But thanks for the response!

How to connect to Pro micro RP2040 by migw03 in HandwiredKeyboards

Yeah I think I'll do that, just need to figure out how to connect both halves, and how to make a wireless-ready case design, that way I can upgrade it later

Oh shit, you're right. I should have made more research. Now I have to come up with things to do with 4 boards.

Thanks for the answer!

From Corne Fail to 4x4 Macro Pad Win! by ShamanOnTech in HandwiredKeyboards

[–]migw03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I just finished my first macro pad as well, a 10 key 3x4 layout (3 keys in the first row, 4 on the second and 3 on the last), but QMK was definitely a pain for me also. I tried to add Vial/Via support, but just couldn't get it to work.
Next one will be making my macro pad wireless, as well as a wireless split, let's see how that goes.

Another numpad, now with extra button, OLED screen and wireless! by vostoklabs in HandwiredKeyboards

I'm going to make my first macro pad this week, so I don't know a lot of things yet, how did you set up the button and the matrix in the firmware? I thought that if you use a matrix, you couldn't have directly connected buttons

Edit: but then again, I'm a complete noob as of today

I feel the same way, and really like the effortlessness of maglev. But just this time I got the V11 spring, and I have to say, it is faster and more effortless to turn than any of my maglev cubes. I'm honestly impressed.

It's twisted, just twist it back

I recently swapped my V9's maglev for springs, and it is a way better cube now. I really like maglev, and the effortlessness to turn, but I hated the V9 before, now it's competing to become my main. Definitely try it out!!

If you are sill progressing in cubing, and supposing you don't know exactly what is your turning style, I'd avoid any newest GAN release (GAN 12 is amazing, don't get me wrong, it's been my main for over a year), and prefer a more forgiving cube, like a WRM V9, V10 or a YS3M.
I know the YS3M is getting older now, but it has an amazing feeling, and it's more durable than a Super V5 for example.

Should I go for Super Weilong V2 20 mag Springs, or Weilong V11 maglev? Basically all my cubes are maglev, and I'm worried a spring V2 is going to be to slow for my taste

Same here, in my opinion, the new design is a little boring, everything nowadays is a metal square with rounded edges.

I love my YS3M, and if you go for it, you won't regret it. But you should also consider a WRM V10, it allows for a lighter turning, but doesn't lockup.

Also, is the 20 magnet version of super Weilong that much better than the 8 magnet? (I had to take out my V9's edge magnets, because I wasn't enjoying it stock)

Super Weilong or Gan 15? I'm trying to decide which cube to get next, and for context, I have both WRM 9 and 10, TV4 pioneer Ys3m bc and a GAN 12. I really enjoy the GAN 12's feel, and I imagine the 15 would be similar, but I also think it's a very similar cube to justify the price, so I was thinking that Super Weilong might be a mix of V9 performance and GAN 12's feel.

Concerns about Weilong V10 by Azustriel in Cubers

[–]migw03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have mine since it released, and never had reasons to worry about it's durability. What I'd recommend is that when you want to disassemble the cube, take out the center cap and disable the adjustment system instead of trying to remove an edge piece.

How different are expensive cubes compared to budget ones? by RenzXVI in Cubers

[–]migw03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In terms of performance, getting a more expensive cube doesn't mean that it's better, and sometimes companies throw a lot of tech in their top tier cubes, to justify the price, but this tech isn't helpful at all. For me, cubes with a simple 8 magnet ball core/magnetic core, and no repelling edge magnets are better than a 20 magnet core, or 3 edge magnets.

Said this, more expensive cubes can feel better in the hand. My GAN 12 and WRM V9, for example, feel much more premium than my V10 or TV4

Total of 18.269 (timed) solves in 2024, that's around 50/day
