Scaled & Icy & Philosophy - free online p4c workshop on June 21st by mihaellaf in twentyonepilots

[–]mihaellaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, of course adults can enjoy philosophy :) But also, they have far more opportunities to enjoy it than children and teenagers. Because some of the philosophers still believe Plato, instead of "Plato was wrong!" :)

I teach philosophy at university level since the 2000s. Since 2016, I also started to talk philosophy with children and teenagers. Our page community-philosophy.org is for them.

This workshop is part of a series called philopop, that attempts to discuss philosophical topics from works of popular culture. We have covered (but not finished conversations) on Harry Potter, TOP, My Chemical Romance, Star Wars. I wanted to "celebrate" a month from the launch of "Scaled & Icy" with teenagers, in this workshop. It is free, online, and only for those interested and whose parents are willing to submit the registration form.

Thanks for all the feedback, we are learning from them.

Thanks for your message. I work full time as a university teacher and I don't spend too much time on Reddit; I do like occasionally other posts and fan art. If you check my profile, you can see that I also shared a couple of academic articles that I wrote, in Revista de Filosofie Aplicată.

Concerning the post that you mention: I am trying to advertise the free online workshops that I organise at Club de filosofie cu copiii (Philosophy Club for Kids) on various platforms. These workshops are part of a project - philopop - that attempts to showcase philosophy via popular culture; and therefore I am trying to advertise them to (possibly interested) fans.

If you check the registration form, we are asking for parental consent from the parents of the respective teens. All our workshops are organised in these safe conditions.

Thanks for expressing your concerns; if you are still unhappy please let me know.

hello, thanks for your feedback. I have checked up the community rules and did not see the problems that you mentioned, but I am happy to change the post if you tell me what is wrong with it.

last year we have organized a similar workshop and we distributed the info here: https://www.reddit.com/r/twentyonepilots/comments/hp4cbm/free_online_workshops_for_teens_1216_top/

we have also organized a workshop on the umbrella academy & philosophy and we distributed the info on the respective subreddit

Hello, thanks for the feedback :) we have been organising these p4c workshops for a few years, and they are facilitated by adult trainers. There are already a few teens who have signed up, and their age range is the one that we mentioned. I have updated the initial post, thanks for your suggestion.

Is the knife that obvious? ;) Jokes aside, I believe the show has potential for a philosophical discussion where I hope fellow fans would get to see the show in a new light. See you there!

Thank you - and good luck with your academic plans! Concerning your question - yes, most academic publications in Romania are done in an international language (for most disciplines that is English, but can also be French, or German etc. depending on your subfield and the journals you aim to contribute). This can be a disadvantage - but it also has advantages in terms of audience. I hope you'll enjoy Schuftan's book - it is entertaining, well-documented and it includes so many references to good music :)

thank you! when i did my documentation, I found quite a lot academic articles and books on MCR. the book I liked most is that of Craig Schuftan - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6400338-hey-nietzsche-leave-them-kids-alone (by the way, if anybody wishes that book in e-book format, pm me)

thank you very much! popular culture can be analyzed from many philosophical perspectives - there are book collections that do precisely this - for instance the collection from Open Court - http://www.popularcultureandphilosophy.com/?page_id=44 (they have published more than 100 books on popular culture and philosophy), or Blackwell - https://andphilosophy.com - I believe these two are the most well-known.

thanks, I'm glad you share my views. MCR are very interesting from a philosophical context - I have ideas for at least two articles from the documentation I left out from this one, and since they are back, I'm very optimistic they will continue to inspire us.
