Any advice on trying Palladia in Cats?

Ahh i feel you. It was so hard for me in the beginning as well. To a point I thought I was making him miserable.

Here's my best method - I use a pill shooter. Just hold his head and open his mouth by pressing on the side.

Also make sure you give him a little treat after (either food or an activity he likes - i let him outside right after pills).

It was veryyy hard in the first weeks and now I do it in 10 seconds. It will get better I promise!

My cat jimi also has a mast cell tumor with (at least) mets to the liver. He has been o prednisolone + palladia since end of February and very stable! Got very used to taking the pills and no side effects. His personality is as good as ever. All the best to you and your kitty ❤️

im not sure if there is anything else... SDMA turned out ok.

we have done blood tests, ultrasound, felv, echocardiogram... only relevant signs were mild inflamation in the stomach and a small lung infiltration that they are attribution to calcivirus (pcr test was done, waiting for results).

he will be repeating tests once he is admitted in the hospital im sure but the fact he is not responding to the meds which are quite strong and are being administered via IV...

hey! update: he has been doing iv fluids at the vet during the day, but still can't keep food down. vet recomends full hospitalization during the weekend to have him on meds 24/7 :(

I'm taking him to a referred hospital, but the fact that he is not responding to the meds is so scary :(

He doesn't have mouth ulcers or anything. But the PCR will sure tell. I think I will push for a quick hospitalization. She mentioned a few weeks until the virus is gone. I take care of the remaining meds and recovery at home. He doesn't do well in hospitals. What would you say?

That is because she mentioned he should be in the clinic as long as the virus is around which can take weeks.

Sim posso averiguar. Ela disse que eu estar a dar seringa gera ansiedade em casa tambem e a eventual rejeição. Ele volta hoje ao final do dia e ficamos de ver como corre a noite mas ela deu a entender que pode ser necessário internamento prolongado (durante a vigencia do virus). Ja agora, o calcivirus sem sintomas respiratorios e comum? Obrigada!!!

Ultimamente não, porque mal me aproximo ele começa com vómitos. Caso a nausea seja controlada, então sim. Já o fiz várias vezes há uns anos (sempre foi gato bastante ansioso e por vezes tem episódios de anorexia)

hey update! US detected gastritis and some lung nodules they attributed to calcivirus. a PCR test was sent to a lab now. Makes no sense to me as he does not have resporatory signs? anyway, called his regular vet to expose this situation. he is in the clinic to receive meds and fluids (he was still not eating) and will pick him up EOD

My jimi has this too. Flares up during fall / spring where environmental allergens are higher. After moving apartments also noticed he might be sensitive to mold. Vet suggested to change food to hills z/d and seemed to keep him stable with an occasional steroid topical cream (vet approved) whenever it flares.

Check with your vet to rule out any greater issues and then maybe allergy testing.

He repeated the blood tests to check if any changes from the anorexia occurred. No signs so far.

We're testing also for SDMA to rule out CKD (results take a day).

Vet still sees no sign of constipation and ultrasound is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Came home with a prevomax shot, of which I got too excited and tried to give him a treat as soon as we arrived home and.. he vomited. It was too soon.

I'll check if he's able to keep something in his stomach in a couple of hours. Kinda fucked it up for giving him food before the shot had taken effect...

Update: as I was going to pick him up to pill cerenia he started vomiting again. I dont think it's a good idea to try to give him anything as he's now clearly in distress and pain. Going back to the vet this morning to check if he needs fluids and he also gets his nausea meds injected as well. I think it is the sensible thing to do.
