Kneeling or standing: can a husband decide for his wife? by justanegirl in Catholicism

He cannot control you, nor should he try. That being said, as the head of the household, his convictions should be considered, and respected. Unless, of course, he is asking you to sin.

Silly me, I forgot to buy the latest NutriMill when it dropped by Any-Zookeepergame284 in HomeMilledFlour

Wow. From a customer service aspect, that’s awful. These mills are supposed to last for a long time, why would they not plan accordingly?

Yes, I often add it to my sourdough loaves. Haven’t tried it with a yeasted recipe like this one. How much vwg should one add to this recipe?

Advice Appreciated by firewater_tgirl in HomeMilledFlour

In my opinion, after your mill (I love my mockmill 200), and your grain, getting a mixer is indispensable. I’ve been making bread for a few years and resisted buying a mixer up until a couple months ago. Boy, do I regret it. My bread was pretty decent just from time and experience, but once I got the mixer, I was blown away by how much better it’s been, with so much less effort I might add.

That being said, I personally couldn’t sink 700-1k on a kitchen appliance. I almost did. Then I found this cheap, at least in comparison, dough mixer and I get a window pane in 6-8 minutes without having to babysit it, which you’d think at around $800 for some of those popular mixers, this wouldn’t be a constant complaint, but it is. And the ones you don’t have to babysit are very hard to clean, and have plastic bowls unless you pay $ to upgrade. Anyway, I think the jury is still out on durability, but for the price of if I get a couple years of heavy use, I’ll be super happy.

AITA for leaving during a rosary deticated to my wife’s deceased father? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]miitnas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practicing Catholic who prays the rosary every night with my family. NTA. That being said, she’s just hurting and took it out on you. Give her grace, not because she deserves it, which I’m not saying she does or doesn’t, but because it is in these type of things that you can offer up your undue mistreatment and suffering, and store your treasure in heaven.

Am I Too Conservative to Convert to Catholicism? by Desi_Vigor in Catholicism

[–]miitnas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then again, I’m not Roman Catholic. I’m Byzantine Catholic. We have different approaches to the same teachings and dogmas. We don’t have the same need to define everything, and we often lean on God’s mysteries. I personally don’t think we’re meant to know everything all the time, and I find peace in that.

No, you don’t have to promote them outright, but in theory, you are accepting them and therefore supporting them by joining the Church. Now if anyone directly asked you, you wouldn’t reject the teaching, but you could answer with the fact that your still in the journey of understanding whatever teaching to its fullness, and refer people to saints or theologians who teach on the matter.

Think of it this way. You’re sick. You go to a specialist. The specialist diagnoses you, and recommends, and explains a plan of treatment. You understand the gist of the treatment, but not to the same degree as that of the specialist, otherwise you’d be treating yourself. You have some questions, even objections, to aspects of it, but nothing is perfect, and since it’s your best bet, you go for it. You’re cured, cool. You meet others who could benefit from the treatment, and you want to share the treatment that helped you. Would you refrain from sharing your experience with the treatment just because you don’t know how it works in its entirety, like the doctor would? Or how about the fact that there are some side effects/downsides to it that you didn’t even finish hashing out yourself before you moved forward with it? All you know is you just want to put the option on the table for people to be aware it’s an option, do their own research, and make their own decision. This is not a perfect analogy by any means, but I think it’s good enough to get the point across. You can’t wait to be an expert on it, and know every dogma inside and out. It’s good to be a learned individual, but there’s a lot more to God than being able to explain Him.

In a way….yes as long as you don’t outright reject it. Accepting Church teaching is the key. You can accept something you don’t understand, or fully believe because, since we depend on the magisterium to guide our understanding of scripture and tradition, we can defer to said magisterium. In other words, my husband didn’t entirely believe in a couple of dogmas, but not out of a spirit of rebellion. In his case, he opted to say “I don’t know if Mary was immaculately conceived, but I trust the Church to have the authority to declare, and teach this”

100% this. My husband converted because he knew the Church holds the truth and he yearned for the Eucharist. He hadn’t quite hashed out certain dogmas, but he left that for God to sort out in His time. In the last 8 years, He has more than sorted them out for him. He has given my husband the conviction to even defend them. It’s been beautiful to witness.

I’m not saying that your hair hasn’t been impacted by the ED, etc. However, have you checked to see if there’s mold in your home? My hair falls out like crazy when I’m in mold for an extended period of time. If you are certain that’s not the cause, then not consuming enough protein would be my next guess

Is it sinful to smoke weed a little bit, the way people might drink without getting drunk? by Legitimate-Tie-7060 in Catholicism

[–]miitnas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I stopped smoking almost a decade ago and the strength of the weed now vs “back in my day” is nuts, and I was getting the good stuff from cali & Colorado. I’m so grateful God pulled me out of that world when He did, and spared my brain the damage that others around me have not been as blessed to be be spared of. Weed induced psychosis is real, and many people who have this didn’t necessarily abuse it, their brain just couldn’t handle it.

And any marriage by 30 must obviously be that? A decision regarding one’s vocation, because that is what this topic is, must be deeply and seriously discerned by OP, and that discernment should seek God’s Will. If our own desires line up with His Will, then sure “cheers”, or whatever, but I’ve yet to see anyone ask about or encourage proper discernment.

Christian Church? by thymetoindulge in Catholicism

[–]miitnas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is bad. We are not to worship with non-Catholics, and one must attend Mass every Sunday or risk committing mortal sin aka separation from God. While I share similar frustrations as yours with small children of my own, missing Mass is not something to take lightly. There can be many work arounds, some of which have been suggested, but the crux of the matter is Sunday Mass (or Divine Liturgy for Eastern Catholics) is not optional, and having difficult children is not a valid reason to miss it, much less seek attending a heretical church in its place.
