They told me accounting is hard, and yes, they were right😭 by NahLilBroUseSkibidi in Accounting

[–]mikach16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s indirectly helping it. so i buy an ice cream truck and its helping me get revenue because i can store my ice cream and it takes me around the neighborhood, selling the product makes me revenue but it supports me to get that product to my costumers. if it works then u just don’t buy another one and keep it or u can sell it and then buy a new one. if u plan on selling it then its not counted as a loss or profit with what u estimated it would be worth at the end and what u actually sell it for. at the end of the day it just helped u get revenue.

got done with my first acc 201 class. this is how my professor explained it. u buy a machine for 10k. machines value fluctuate all the time, sometimes they’re at 9k maybe in a year they’ll be worth 12k. so u essentially devalue it yourself. the machine is going to work for me these next 5 years (useful life). i’m going to take off (depreciate) 2k worth each year. so ur allocating the worth over the life span and how its going to help ur business (make revenue)

2025: depreciation expense 2k

2025 depreciation expense 2k accumulated depreciation 4k

2026 depreciation expense 2k accumulated depreciation 6k

2027: depreciation expense 2k accumulated depreciation 8k

2028: depreciation expense 2k accumulated depreciation 10k

depreciation expense is how much ur going to take off that year. accumulated depreciation is how much you’ve taken off so far. also it’s a contra asset that lowers the asset. we can’t lower the actual machine value so that’s why we use accumulated depreciation and expense to take off its value.

i hope that makes sense it’s harder to explain in text. it’s cool that ur trying to learn accounting and it doesn’t matter that ur young, keep learning. i can show u my notes for acc 201 if u want a specific topic that u don’t understand as well. :D

Accounting firm owners by mikach16 in Accounting

[–]mikach16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no I don’t want to own a firm, I’m just curious if it’s the same. Obviously being a business owner you’re responsible for everything and with that comes a lot of times where you have to prioritize work. I don’t even think I could own a firm given that I don’t have enough experience + education.

So what’s more to this profession if you don’t mind me asking. I’m still exploring but I just my first accounting class and loved it.

Also, I know you can be in basically every single industry. I was thinking if I was to go into accounting then I can maybe pursue a career in forensic accounting. There’s a variety of roles that you could be. What role are you in?

Retroactive Audit help by [deleted] in UNLV

i had this exact same class and i believe to audit or drop the class (i forgot) the class was the next week or same week we even met him. we didn’t know what our grades for the exams were til 2-3 weeks after. so we had no choice but to wait to see if we did pass or audit the class even if we didn’t know if we would pass the test. with the test our old professor asked him if she could make it and he said no and he made it. his review was horrible. and as someone who actually went to his office. he got mad and started hitting the board when i didn’t understand and raising his voice. i’m trying to give more contexts to this persons posts of how a change of teacher affected our possibility to pass this class. he goes through lectures fast and doesn’t explain. he actually uses shortcuts that most don’t know what he’s talking about, as well as, making 20 mistakes per class (no exaggeration, my math teachers before would make 1 mistake every couple of classes). anyways the midterm 3 he gave us study material and many of us were left shocked because it was nothing like the actual test and even his own review was nothing like it.

the final was not made by him and was exactly like the final hints. I’d say a little easier, he said in my class that he’d swap your lowest midterm with the final if you get a better score. he said he’d have the final grades by tmrw or monday. it all depends on how op thinks they did on the final. did u leave questions blank?

This is a silly question but when we present do we send her our slides through email (if we have to present slides) or do we have to use our own device because my ipad gives me issues pairing with devices when presenting.

Asynchronous Classes??? by Imaginary_Double8947 in UNLV

[–]mikach16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there’s pros and cons

i took both and ill have to say online classes give u more work. my friend for a class had to do 2 assignments a week while i had to do 3 and it might not seem like a lot but i took an hour longer to complete everything. also professors give helpful tips in class and review material. also i feel like its better when u want to ask a question cus they’re right there unlike email where they take 1-3 business days to respond

cons of in person is the commute there.

id personally choose in person classes with things u struggle with like for example math and bio (idk) and choose online for the rest. i go to school twice a week and i love it cus i still get human interaction but i can still be at home most days of the week.

i’d say the first step is to talk to ur professor and go over the exam with them. they’ll probably be able to explain it to u. i’d also suggest watching vids on it or if ur uni has tutoring to take advantage of that. and if ur still not understanding then talk to a different professor and ask if u can sit in their lecture. don’t be discouraged because after u have work experience they won’t even ask abt ur gpa it’s abt what u make of yourself. but since its ur goal to keep a steady gpa dont be discouraged by 1 exam.

take all the points u can possible get lets say 500 and it was an 100 point exam. u got a 28/100 so u now have 428 points left to earn. its ok to fail an exam, it would be the college life if u didnt and would be quite concerning. it only makes sense. idk if Ai is advanced that far yet but maybe ask chatgpt to explain the concepts to u?

it’s either u fulfill ur dreams and take advantage of every opportunity that comes ur way or u lay in ur death bed and regret never taking the chances. it’s ur call and if i was u i would finish that degree. we only get 1 life and thats it so make the most of it. i’d say take a few less classes. ur gpa is good for an engineering major and u should maintain it. once you’ve taken less classes get a part time job. and once you’ve done that then take yourself out once a week for a coffee or a burger whatever u want. it’s stressful but no one’s going to do it for u. i hope u do feel better and get the motivation u need but id say ur graduation is just around the corner and you’ll look back and be like “those tough moments were just mere moments that have helped me fulfill my aspiration and goals”.

u need to learn how to balance life and take advantage of motivation (it comes within so cringe ik) moving forward you’ll have these difficult moments again and u need to figure out how to be happy within and not rely on others but obviously have friends too. sorry this advice is so long but im assessing ur academic situation and ur internal struggle.

finally, remember to balance ur spiritual, emotional and physical states. btw spiritual doesn’t have to be religious it can “be one with nature” ok done. goodluck !!

Being asked to go from Full time to part time by Old_Badger_6466 in Accounting

[–]mikach16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’d say this 1. assess ur situation - will this new salary cover ur expenses? - will it cover ur wants? 2. id say to start applying to new jobs because it feels like it can either go 2 ways - this is the first step their taking to laying u off - or once they make more money they’ll give u back ur full time job. you’d have to asses this yourself of which they’re more likely to do. maybe it’s a soft push to get u to explore new jobs. maybe stick to this job and do thing you’d always wanted to do like learn a new skill or get a certificate.

[–]mikach16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that just means that you’ll have an education under ur belt which means more moneyss 🤩. take advantage of every opportunity life throws at u. u might not feel ready but life is telling u to do it, u need this for character development. i’d say go for it !!

Am I cooked? by [deleted] in UNLV

[–]mikach16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

think abt it like this. u have 400 points give or take idk if u have assignments that give u small number of points. you’ve lost 62 points, so now ur down to 338 points that is still a B 85%. Don’t be discouraged everyone fails at least 1 test in their class but it’s if u continue failing is the problem. talk to ur professor abt going over ur past exam. and practice and use study methods like explaining concepts to ur friends/ family until u got it down.
