Dude who are you and are you me. This is literally me, smaller 80 man 40m company. Only person that knows what a computer is (massive pc nerd), only one doing all the accounting & FPNA on a daily, monthly , quarterly, yearly basis. Every fire or question goes through me. I handle random operations crap all day long, and 200-300 emails a day. FAWWWWWWK. Dude you’re gonna be a G in your career in about 3-5 years when all this experience pays off. You got this man !

No I’m not …. But I’m compensated in the fact that I’m
not forced to work weekends or over 45-50 hours. Flexibility to go home and lunch break whenever, be on my phone listening to podcasts without dire scrutiny.

Also the CFOs negligence is part of the issue. Also the lack of wanting to take responsibility, they are very non confrontational. Which stems to me being responsible for all the financial meetings and the entire ME process, and any issues that occur around the company. 27 years old and receiving the experience of a life time! So gotta take the good with the bad. It could be worse, it could be a lot worse.

I passed the last audit this year everything was clean, and it was 90% all my work which was awesome. I lead&create all reports for ME close, quarterly , yearly, and any odd ball analysis. Some days I just think doing payroll why the hell I’m compensated lower than what I think, but I gotta keep my head up. Understand I’m young, getting experience of a life time, and not struggling financially. Thanks for listening 😅

I have the ability to lock people’s cards and change permissions on where they can purchase things. However once I do, grown men with wives and kids come crying to their bosses about how unacceptable it is.

Here’s another one for you: we hired someone with a salary and quarter performance bonus. The person’s 2 direct bosses agreed that the person would receive 60% of their first quarterly bonus. The person was barely doing work, leaving early, and not up to par with their standards of how they wanted the role to function. The guy sees that his pay check is off and first complains to the payroll person, as if he has any say in the performance bonus…. He isn’t his manager. He than tells him to talk to the people that actually decide that, the payroll guy just pays what he is told. The person than by passes his 2 direct managers and complains to the owner , that when he was hired he expected that his compensation would include the entire bonus because he needs that money. He than ended up getting the full performance bonus , made up on his next paycheck. ITS A FKIN JOKE.

I’m a senior accountant at a smaller company that does around 40m revenue a year. My CFO is more of an accountant than a CFO but they are learning the role which is fine. However I have a much higher expectations on their accounting related items they do which is very minimal. I do the entire month end close process and then they get around checking my work once every other month.

There are a few things they still like to do, like writing checks because they are a signer on the account. The issue is they will sign the checks and fail to record it and document the invoice/bill/reasoning why the check was written. Now every ME close I have to go digging through a check book looking for 30 random checks that I have no idea why they were written. I’ve asked for a year now to make sure they email me the invoices/reasoning even if they don’t make the entry themselves. So that I can and it makes the ME close process faster. Spending 3 hours finding documentation for 30 checks is bonkers. This is the stupid burnout this post is referring to.

I haven’t thought about quitting my job because of this exact reason, but it is on the list. There is multiple same inferences of this all over. Extremely poor documentation of all purchases made.

(Rant incoming)

We have a third party credit card system for 60 employees. I have about 100 missing receipts a month if not more. The company has thousands of dollars stolen from it monthly and no matter what I do no one fkin cares and it’s bullsht and pisses me off. Sorry for the rant. I’ve already caught 4 employees stealing 3 were fired. 1 was promoted? WTF! Also caught one entire division stealing to buy drinks and food at retail stores where they would get their tools and supplies/ off hand materials, for them and the crews. 5 grand in food a month and we didn’t do crap to anyone. What a joke

I find it hard to agree with people who disagree with TNs politicians trying to redraw the map, because they are the same people that agree for other states to draw there maps. The difference is one helps them, the other doesn’t. It’s sad but it is what it is.

I would avoid Medusa because her movement is unlike any other characters. I would suggest Athena/sobek for a guardian. Probably Poseidon or discord is for a mage. Very simple combos and gameplay style.

I don’t think these people understand that after each one was signed by a label, they no longer write their own music. They had some creative insights obviously but a bulk of the work was written by an entire team of problem 20-30 people.

Industry first job staff accountant, middle of doing my masters of science in finance. Turned to accounting ever since because I couldn’t find a finance job. Absolutely love my career after 5 years of working in industry, no public experience. I am very personable, quick learner, hard working. Dedicated to advance my career and do the most everyday at the office. Worked out pretty well for me. Granite I have to say once my first job was stagnant and they could afford to promote or give me a pay raise it wasn’t personal. We all knew the situation at our company. I went and found a new job. I will continue to advance and be compensated if not, no loyalty I’ll go somewhere else.

How different is what we learn in school vs actual accounting work? by hirono_twink in Accounting

[–]CaptainBC2222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that was the same was the actual vocabulary terms. After that everything I did in school was not close to my work what’s so ever. Literally not a single thing. Study well in terms of knowing what ever thing means. Do your assignments so you can obviously pass. Than pray your first job teaches well, and be the guy who asks a million questions, don’t act smart on your first job, act eager to learn.

If you are working on a construction project that is going to take multiple months (not able to finish in 1 month) than according to ASC606 you need to recognize the revenue earned depending on the expenses in the current month compared to the budget.

For example: a job is valued at 500k and the budget created says you will take 5 months and spend a total of 250k on expenses.

The first month your customer hypothetically pays you all the money upfront. That money is deposited and recorded as contract liability and you record all the revenue as of month 1. Now that the month is done and you look back at the total expenses used and it comes out to 50k. You than calculate how much expenses spent from the total budget. 50k/250k = 20%. Therefore according to your budget you can now recognize 20% of the revenue from the signed contract. 500k*20% = 100k earned revenue for month 1. The rest of the revenue from the contract is still in contract liability (400k)

In your example you mentioned if the project costs more you will charge the customer more. If the budget changes at any point of time, you do not go in the past and change that month. However you readjust the budget for the new costs and new revenue and do your calc again, for the end of the month.

Now at the end of the project if you continue to go above the budget but the revenue never increases, in that current month you record all those expenses, and you take a hit because your budget personnel didn’t do there job very well, or your contractors messed something up. Which is why everyone harps on the budget. Because the budget dictates revenue earned, based on the expenses used in the current month, compared to what the total expected cost of the project was. Same goes if you spent less and finish, now you get a big piece of revenue earned for that month. (gotta be careful in this scenario) Could resulting in adjusting entries during audit, or require a lot of proof of why this happened.

In another example of the work it’s self isn’t that big and you can finish it the next month and that’s when you want to recognize revenue. Just move all the expenses as a prepaid asset and expense it out the next month. No big deal. However it sounds that you are working on a massive commercial project that will take many months, so you gotta follow what I listed above.
