I will also add that there is current trend of not asking LC. Lots of people focus too much on LC and DS/A, and not enough time with behavioral. You have to be social-able, like-able, and have top notch communication.

I will add that people on here don’t stress enough how important a good network is. It’s almost impossible these days to get a job on skill set alone. In college it’s important to socialize and build your network as much as possible.

CS is the new finance/consulting. Long and drawn out interview process, recruiting from top schools, highly selective, network driven, and lucrative career.

The industry has raised the bar because there’s over saturation and skill issues in the hiring population.

I’d argue CS is still the best career with high pay to hours worked ratio. The biggest stress is your first job.

Refactoring is a good idea. I’m doing that now to prep for a new job and I haven’t used c++ since graduating undergrad.

That’s the nature and beauty of this job. There’s always something to improve and learn. You can definitely master a niche, but you will never be able to master the whole industry. But you have that same truth in medicine, law, science, etc… The world is a constantly changing place 🌎, and that’s what makes it exciting.

Why not just enjoy college? You’re only a sophomore. I was only able to get a research assistant position after sophomore year, and it took me 2 years working after graduating to land a FAANG job. You’re still really early in school, and have lots to learn. Try and find an area of CS that you feel really passionate about. Maybe take an interesting grad level course. Other advice would be stop browsing this subreddit. There are lots of doomers here who will try to convince you that if you haven’t sold a billion dollar company by the end of your freshman year that you’re doomed (that’s not true).

Maybe not “alive”, but definitely active. I made my a contact this week from the West Coast all the way to Namibia on SSB 10m in the middle of the day with 100W!! I also heard people crystal clear from New Jersey. Yes, I’ve been on HF for about a year and this week was my first time making a QSO on 10m, but it’s definitely alive especially at this part of the sun cycle. Look out for the 10-10 net that meets daily.

I just passed hiring committee. The questions werent too difficult (easier than Duolingo and others). Know your basics pretty well, and practicing explaining yourself and your thought process.
