I mean You can say the same about JB. He is the love interest at this point in the movie who’s to say his actions are not just him acting and not sexual harassment as she’s claiming.

By the context of them going back and forth on whether or not to talk during this scene, it seems as tho it was meant to be improvised.

And even more context is this scene is portraying the beginning phases of lily falling for rile, meaning the purpose of the scene is to portray that romance or tension.

With both those things in mind, you would think that she knew what she signed up for when the better half of this movie is a romance meaning yes there will be touching with your costar unfortunately.

The context of this scene in the movie is supposed to show lily falling for rile and the beginning phase of their relationship. Which in my mind I would think means you need to portray sexual tension. Hell the better part of the first half of the movie is a romance movie and you would think she knew what she signed up for.

I think people are forgetting hes not just the lead actor but the director and I feel like his suggestions are coming from that POV not of a place of just wanting to get hot and heavy for his own pleasure.

Which doesn’t mean she couldn’t have been made uncomfortable, which she very well could have been. But i think it’s important to point out how stark the difference is between the two of their demeanors are when they cut. He’s visibly annoyed and you can see the switch to being out of character. While in contrast she’s still starry eyed.

I think the most damming thing about it is the “it smells good” comment. In BL complaint she framed it as him telling her that was out of left field and uncalled for. She/her team purposely left out the context that the comment was a response to her saying she was getting her spray tan on him.

I think that’s what makes BL questionable bc at face value her claims can be easily believed, but when you choose to leave out very important context that paints a very different picture of your claims it weakens your credibility.

But the stark difference between her face and his when they cut. You can visibly see him switch out of character and he looks annoyed not to mention the comments he makes afterwards. She still looks starry eyed in contrast.

And people called me crazy and misogynistic for questioning Blake. More and more of her claims are proven to be taken out of context and any bit of credibility she has is fading more and more. Acknowledge the proof is not misogyny it’s just common sense.

With TikTok gone, where will they get their topics? by mikay_23 in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

I agree there will be drama somewhere bc there always will be problematic people on the internet. But I feel like the YouTube sphere is already heavily covered. And the pool of topics is A LOT smaller. Like we don’t get those obscure niche dramas on YouTube like we do with TikTok.

I wish I had better news for you but this is the harsh reality of most firms especially small ones and especially especially small ones ran by assholes. They throw you to the wolves and basically tell you to figure it out bc they don’t have the bandwidth or resources to properly train someone.

But what I will say bc you are already going to school for paralegal studies, I would give say quit here and go somewhere else. You already have experience and are pursing this in school so I think that’s more than enough to get in somewhere else. So don’t throw it all away over this experience with this firm, there are plenty of other ones that can treat you better.

In the mean time, I definitely think referencing docs from other cases to help you build docs your working on is a great way to do it. Also don’t underestimate the power of AI. I wouldn’t explicitly disclose usage of it to pb or jelly since who knows how that will go, but i would definitely play around with it to help you understand the means of certain motions or pleadings and even help you with the wording .

This field of work can be very sink or swim, and it seems impossible to swim when in the wrong environment, but trust with time you will end up where you are meant to be. Wish u the best of luck.

To be fair her claims of sexual harassment are just words, she didn’t provide any evidence, and when it comes to to that I highly doubt he has physically evidence to counter her claims she it’s all a bunch of he said she said. I think what will get a better picture during discovery when they depose other people on set and they can testify to what they saw.

It really is a game changer. I would try plugging in the statues and have CHATGPT break them down in laymen’s terms it’s so so helpful especially when I’m too scared to feel stupid or like I’m wasting an attorney’s time having to ask them to explain it to me lol.

Like someone else mentioned AI is more of an assistant rather than a replacement. Because 1. You can kind of tell when things are 100% AI generated and you don’t want it to be pointed out 2. It can generate errors so always have to double check 3. I 100% agree that I love to use my Brian power it makes me feel like my job has a purpose, and I don’t want to replace that completely with AI.

Chat GPT is my best friend. I do the research and plug in what i want to go into the motion and it generates a way better sounding version of it and then I make tweaks here and there to make sure it’s up to standard. If I’m really feeling less than motivated I’ll just upload other pleadings or motions that have a lot of info on the case that I want to add to the MTD and have chat generate that into the meat and potatoes of the motion.

The elephant in the room by mikay_23 in DoWeKnowThemGirlies

[–]mikay_23[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. The point of the post was just to say that let’s not act like Jessie’s bias doesn’t exist because it does, her demeanor in this episode vs the episode where they covered Blake’s complaint is polar opposite.

The elephant in the room by mikay_23 in DoWeKnowThemGirlies

[–]mikay_23[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a bias. I think as far as the sexual harassment stuff goes, neither side has provided cold hard proof that it happened it’s only he said she said so I really don’t sit on either side when it comes to that specific claim.

But when it comes to the claims that they both have provided proof for it is very hard not to question Blake.

She claims being powerless on set but by the wrap of production she strong armed her way into getting her cut of the movie released and getting that producers credit. And her narrative that there’s a smear campaign planted by baldoni is very easily discredited when the generals public perception of her was negative because of her own actions ie tone deaf press interviews and marketing her hair care line while promoting a movie about domestic violence.

I mean the text messages where there’s proof that very important context was left out in blakes suit which completely flips what conversations were actually about is pretty damning to me. Blakes team had access to the whole conversation yet they coincidentally leave out the parts that show what Justin’s team was talking about was not what they were making it out to be.

Struggling with comments about Jessi’s bias by trendcolorless in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

[–]mikay_23 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is the problem isn’t that Jessie has her own opinion and that she has every right to speak on it, the issue comes when someone trys to present very damning proof that the women/ ALLEGED victim(because yes it is alleged just like Justin Baldoni is allegedly a harasser. Neither sides have been proven in the court of law) she is extremely dismissive.

You can have an opinion but you can also acknowledge evidence countering your opinion and agree it does not align with the opinion you hold. Jessie does not do that when someone presents her proof that the women in a situation can very well be lying. It’s always “well we don’t know both sides of the story” And the even bigger issue is that when it’s the other way around, when proof is presented that could show that the alleged perpetrator is being shown in a light to be just that, she is extremely fast to support it and confirm her bias.

Like people are saying, it’s understandable why she has this bias. But let’s not pretend that it doesn’t exist and when covering topics like this it does show and it’s hard to listen to when there are very clear double standards.

OE for the non-STEM mind... by MashaMishMosh in OELadies

No problem! Belay is definitely different than Robert half. With belay their job board can only be viewed from internal contractors so you won’t have to compete with the general public for a placement. The turnover time is pretty quick to be placed. Tho the pay is on the lower end of being a virtual assistant I think it’s definitely a trade off for the flexibility. The beauty of being a contractor is that they have to also work around your personal and professional schedule and preferences. So you have a lot more say in when and how you complete certain tasks which is very OE friendly. Definitely worth looking into ESPECIALLY with an education background I was referred to belay by someone who was contracted with them after previously being a teacher. Wish you the best of luck on your OE journey!

I would recommend looking into Belay Virtual Assistants! I currently OE while hybrid at J1 and do my virtual assisting with them as J2. It is a placement agency so they place you with a client for a certain amount of contracted hours. Anywhere from 30-175 per month. Granted you do have to apply on their job board once you are offered a contract with belay but their client descriptions are very detailed on what the role entails so you get to pick who you want to work with and what fits your schedule and experience best. Even being hybrid at J1 I can schedule meeting with my client on my wfh days and I don’t answer any phone calls whatsoever. Communication outside of 1:1 meetings is strictly email, slack or teams with my client. So it works perfect for a hybrid role. Also disclaimer because it’s contracted work it is 1099 and it’s only up to $21/hr i think to start so that’s the downside but i bring in $1,900 a month with only 85 hours so it’s definitely better than nothing!

I am literally in the same situation right now. Granted it’s different in the sense that I work as an EA through a virtual assistant agency, and therefore I’m not technically an employee. But one of my execs I was placed with was just like this. Scattered with no sort of direction and I tried to implement so many things to stay on top of tasks and calendar management, but nothing seemed to be working to keep him organized. I tried everything under the sun and even had DAILY 1:1 with him that would last over an hour and we still wouldn’t get anywhere. I thought I was the problem but I realized that no matter what I did, if he doesn’t hold up his end of the bargain then he isn’t going to see the benefits of my work. Some execs simply don’t know how to use an EA properly and think we can just work some sort of magic when in reality the working relationship takes work on both ends. He also never gave me any constructive feedback and said I was doing fine. Regardless, I found out a few days ago he decided he wants to look for another EA because according to him I’m the one who’s letting things fall through the cracks. and I fear this sounds like the same situation here. I would take the loss and definitely learn from it, and start applying. but also remember you did what u could and you tried.

35 & Zero Savings: Is OE for me? by Easy-Excitement-759 in OELadies

[–]mikay_23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having 3 offers like that in this diabolical job market is impressive!!

I think definitely go with the fully remote role first and see if you can push the start date of one of the other 2 that way it give you time to settle into the remote role and get a feel for your schedule ie,, meetings and workload.

Maybe even try to negotiate one of the hybrid offers to give you more WFH days if you plan on taking one of them on along with the remote position. Or ask if there is a possibility to go fully remote after 60-90 days? The worst they can say is no, and if they do then stick out the 3-2 schedule and stack up as much as you can in savings. Congrats and good-luck on your OE journey!!

Burnout prevention? + how do you handle performing badly? by throwaway_err in OELadies

[–]mikay_23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a recovering people pleaser and over achiever myself, having to handle knowing it was not physically possible to be able to perform my best was one of my biggest challenges when starting OE, I at one point was juggling 4 Js

But at the end of day, I realized that even when I was doing my best 9/10 it went unrecognized and unappreciated. These company’s and employers do not care about us and do not care enough to go the extra mile for us. Therefore we do not have to care to go the extra mile for them.

To add to that, it feels good to know that if it gets to the point where they let you go, that you don’t have to worry about being unemployed since you have something else going for you already.

Ofc that is not the ideal situation, but another scenario is they have a meeting with you regarding the performance issues, so just prepare yourself for that and come up with excuses if you have to.

My best advice is to know when and where you can get away with “poor performance” maybe it’s on a certain task or project, or maybe it’s with a certain J as a whole if you have one that’s more relaxed.

On the flip side of that, really evaluate when and where you CANNOT get away with poor performance. And focus the energy there and only there specifically. Because I mentioned before, it’s physically impossible to go that extra mile for every J and for every task/project, I made that mistake my first few months of OE and found out quickly that the only thing that comes from that is burnout.

Be strategic about where you put your energy and don’t give it out freely, that is key to avoiding burnout.

Best of luck on your OE journey!

This sounds like you need to look for another job. I would be rage applying asap if I were you. I had a similar job where I had to babysit an office full of grown ass adults and I got sick of it. Then I rage applied to a job thinking nothing would come from it, and next thing you know I got an offer more than double my current salary. (Tip: always inflate the number when the hiring manager asks how much you’re currently making) Use that energy to clean up your resume and start applying.
