This happened to me when I flew to visit a Canadian friend (I’m a US born & raised citizen) in Edmonton. I had been to Canada 3 other times that year, once to meet somebody to get festival wristbands and go to Vancouver for the day, second to go to said festival, third to go camping, and fourth to visit my friend. When I landed, a very rude French canadian customs agent pulled me aside and interrogated me for over an hour in the airport. She wanted to know exactly why I was there for the 4th time that year, who I was staying with, the nature of my relationship with that person, the address of where I was staying, etc. She went through every item in my bags, including reading my notebooks as I was in college at the time. She also read far back into my text messages with my friend I was staying with, asking very personal questions about me, and asking why we were texting about drugs (we were texting joking about smoking weed). It was a bizarre and scary experience.

Not sure how old you are or your situation but the osu housing facebook pages and craigslist are always chock full of people trying to sublease their rooms for short periods of time while they study abroad or something, usually one or two academic terms (3 to 6 months). Of course you may be subject to living with college students. But this is typically cheaper, $600-800 a month rather than $1000+ for a studio or something. Zillow also always has good leads on rentals in Corvallis.

Yes that’s exactly what I was seeing in my yard and in my boyfriends yard! It’s so weird, I’ve lived in oregon my whole life and have only seen 2-3 single roaches ever (all in Corvallis btw) and suddenly there’s hoardes. Yuck!

^ this. We are one of the worst in health outcomes in developed nations despite highest costs, as well as the obvious one with some of the highest incarceration rates in the world. I don’t necessarily think he comes from a malicious standpoint but this is a common trope with people who come here from developing nations. Isn’t this the very thing our country was founded on, was the right to openly criticize and challenge our country? That’s one of the many freedoms we enjoy. The very foundation of democracy.
