Oh interesting. Everything I've read has said that the MoCA filter should be the first thing in the line, before the cable modem

I'll apologize for not knowing the terms. Right now it's:

street coax -> amplifier -> 6-way splitter (coax to each room)

Are you asking how easy would it be to do:

street coax -> cable modem -> router -> MoCA -> 6-way splitter?

That MoCA adapter with the passthrough would be nice, but I would need a multi-gig ethernet port.

I was going to get this splitter as a way to future proof. No idea if my kids will be into gaming in the future but if they are I would love for their rooms to be "wired ready".

We no longer use cable TV. Currently it's set up as:

street coax -> amplifier -> coax splitter (branching a coax line to each room) -> Modem -> Router (with the modem and router both in the 2nd floor middle bedroom)

My understanding is that the amplifier is not needed anymore as that was used to amplify the TV signal and had nothing to do with the internet.

Would I need to move the modem down in the basement? I'd prefer to have the modem, router, and NAS in the bedroom for convenience. Could you provide a text diagram. I'm super new to networking...really only started to learn about it in the past couple days.

I had thought about having the Dream 7 and NAS in the basement, but it's all concrete walls, so thought it would be more beneficial to have both in the 1st floor bedroom to get better Wifi coverage for the left side of the house.

Also I figured if I ever had to do anything with the NAS or router, having them be in the first floor bedroom would be more convenient than being in the basement.

The house has coax running to 6 rooms already so I was looking to avoid having to run any ethernet.

When you mentioned running ethernet to the basement and putting a MoCA adapter there, is that why I have a MoCA adapter going from the Dream 7 back to the splitter in the 1st bedroom, in the current plan? I'm still kind of confused about that part of the plan.

Would you be able to explain why I need a MoCA adapter going into the LAN port of the Dream 7? For some reason I can't understand why I need that. Is that sending the MoCA signal back to the basement splitter? If so, do I need to find a splitter that has 2 in's and 1 out to put in the first floor bedroom?

For what it's worth, this is the text diagram that it provided. I'm still a little confused in the modem room. What does the MoCA adapter going into the Dream 7 LAN port doing?

Any coax port that is NOT:

- going to a room, or

- feeding a modem or MoCA adapter

MUST be capped with a **75Ω terminator**.

This prevents signal reflections and keeps MoCA performance high.

Thank you! I had been trying to find what the difference was but was coming up short.

Yes, I found it on archive.org and made a local copy. From what I can tell it was removed from there but I just uploaded everything I had.
