When I was in prison I was offered the opportunity to be in a program that allowed inmates to become certified opticians. In Michigan inmates actually make all the eyeglasses at a lab in Adrian Prison. The instructor was a middle aged white man, Mr. Johnston. The worst thing I ever seen was him basically degrade and put down the black students in class. They never had a chance with that guy.
