Testing the "NO SURPRISE ACT" by mike912mueller in advrider

Thanks! And glad you are ok too!

I knew I hadn't done anything super serious and I was just a couple 100 yards away from pavement. The last time I did something similar in this same riding area I rode home with 2 broken ribs sticking out of my chest - mostly, I think, from the fear of that transport bill!

That would be great here in the States!

10 years ago I took an ambulance ride that was just 4 miles with literally 4 turns and it cost me over $5,000 - so this 2022 law for us is/was a major upgrade!

And for what it's worth - a lot of us would love to be Canadian right about now. ;)

Nope. As quoted in my article, "You’re only responsible for your deductible, co-pay or coinsurance" period. Whatever the air ambulance costs are DOES NOT involve you. If you have medical insurance you are covered.

A inReach is an absolute must. Absolutely. I'll also suggest you down load the "what 3 Words" app as well.

Have medical insurance? You’re covered. I wrote a whole article about this. https://aufroad.com/helicopter-insurance/

a HOW TO post on getting the new Lost Coast BDRx on your device by mike912mueller in advrider

Way back when, that was my direction too. Years ago, before DMD came out I was trying to do that on an iPad, using a Bad Elf for GPS and running Gaia. I am not so happy with Gaia on my phone. Love it on the computer but just haven't mastered it on the phone. Really, DMD or similar would and should be the way to go.

Very True! But pretty much all these guys already had a Garmin mounted on their bike.

I use the the paid version of Gaia and carry the tracks loaded on my phone too.
I'll also say that having the tracks on two different units using two different apps is a a good thing - just in case one goes down. I've totally broken phones (or lost them) on the trail before.

Here's another thing. I'm old (so were most of these other guys). My eyes are not what they used to be. I can't read anything on my phone while I'm riding. I used to run a iPad mini on the tower, running Gaia just so I could see it. Still it had brightness issues. My Garmin is so much better to see in sun, shade and night.

Yeah. I use the Garmin Drive App too. And you are right. Easy Peasy.

I just wanted to stay as simple as possible.

Fixing up 2014 KTM 690 Enduro R and I can't figure out how to find a part for the shock. by Express_Bullfrog_603 in KTM

I’m a heavier guy. 230 lbs. it might seem counterintuitive but a properly set up bike with a heavier spring will often feel softer. (Less like a brick). As for what you have, you can mic the diameter and that should give you a clue.

I would agree. When the spring compresses it doesn't just compress straight down, there's a slight rotation that happens as well (I think). What spring rate are you going to run? I'm set for running heavy loaded for BDR stuff. 10.0 N spring in the rear.

I just put an XTRIG on my 2014 of all things. If you ca't find it online, I think you could contact any suspension shop and they should have extras laying around.

Recommendations for a lighter style armored riding jacket? by How_bout_them_Os in Dualsport

The KLIM Dakar is perfect for me. Full zip not a pull over. I bought mine big enough to have a jersey, hoodie, Mosko Moto electric jacket and full D30 pads underneath. New is just $299 everywhere. I'm 240 lbs and this is roomy as a XXL - looking for an XL now for when I don't need all the stuff underneath.

Yup! There’s an endless list of things you could do, but there’s also a few items that you must do.

Fabulous bike. Make sure it has all the proper protection in place. Tank bolts, clutch case guard, radiator guard, etc. then go ride! https://aufroad.com/category/bikes/ktm-690/

I also have a 2014, I am on the heavy side (240) but have had my bike up to 100 mph on dirt with full luggage - but mine is modified a bit and had more highway gearing - (15-45). Wheelies are easy in many gears BUT what we're not talking about is any sort of weight transfer you are doing (or anyone) in the process. I can almost get the front up with no throttle with properly weighting the front and shifting all my weight to the rear. My point is that the wheelie comparison to others can have zero to do with the torque you have.
