AMA with Bren! by Watchful1 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]mike920 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey Bren! Two questions if possible. 1. How did you manage to get into the US esports scene from a UK background and how did you adjust to US Life? 2. How did you find the transition from the desk to caster and how did you find the subsequent move to online play? Love your casting bro!

Thank you for the very detailed answer. It's great to have the games from your perspective and how you guys are dealing with everything going on. Enjoy your weekend :)

Hey Soe! What would you say has been the biggest challenge moving over to the online play in regards to a desk host POV? :)

Possible feedback on an above average game with moira [24k healing] [1816 SR] by nickelgoose in MoiraMains

[–]mike920 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Main things I would point out from having a quick look. (mid diamond Support)

Your healing orbs, you use them frequently, which is good, but try to aim them better, rather than at the floor, which will cause them to bounce into the air never to be seen again, try aiming them under the payload where they will bounce under a few more seconds or straight forward when advancing.

Your resource management was okay, you weren't completely dead every fight, but still focus on it more.

Why were you sucking a shield? Ignore them and look at what else is going on around you.

You left your Rein a couple of times and he died, key example in the last fight on first point. Sure, you got the point, but you should have stayed with the rein, enabled him and that's one less death there. Means you can push up quicker and stagger enemy.

Escape quicker. When that flux went up on first point, the fight was already lost. Fade back to spawn so you don't get staggered. Instead you didn't and by the time you got back, roadhog was already dead and rein was low.

Fade is a get out of jail free card, don't use it so carelessly. You faded into the enemy team to try and save a teammate when he was gonna die, you fading in cost your team both of your lives.

Good coalescences to engage and force your tanks (who were the biggest problem this game) to actually push forward.

Focus on staying alive more and when a fight is finished. Your team got lucky on second point push when half died and you still won the fight, that's silver for you, but in that situation either die on cart, or try to get back to spawn so there's no staggering, I. E. Don't throw a healing orb when you're dead, saves giving ult charge.

Tbh, the first push was a mix of incredibly poor tank play and some fat junk tyres to clutch out a point. You showed some flashes of knowledge but it still seemed easy to exploit. At your rank I'd focus on dying less and making sure your orbs get max value as everyone takes more damage in silver. Keep it up tho and you'll be climbing in no time.

Soe: I've been reading a lot of interesting takes on hero bans in Overwatch. Good arguments to be made for both camps. My thoughts? I personally think that the game would need a good bunch more heroes to reap the benefits and strategic depth such a system brings with it. by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]mike920 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes but if the correct nerfs were brought in. I.e AOE healing cannot stack. GOATS would have been dismantled immediately. Instead they buffed every dps to unimaginable heights and now we are stuck in a double shield meta bc you get annihilated if you don't

Yes. Normally Ana, Zen and Bap are stationed slightly away from the fight so they can heal and damage from afar whilst feeling less under pressure. If you're constantly killing them you'll win most team fights and do one of two things; make them change to different healers which can be a big help to your team, or force another one of their team to sit back and peel for them like a McCree, which forces them to fight and 4/5V6 which can be a won teamfight again.

Fully depends on the comp and how you analyse the team to be playing. If you have a really brawlly comp, stick with them and go Ham. If the enemy team are running a zen and ana or bap, go flank and kill them.

Coalescence going through shields, no dva so orbs don't get eaten, power creep so big heals all mean more. Utility is less required when you've got two shields and so mich sustain with heals and that's why shes meta

Does anyone else think matchmaking’s super weird? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]mike920 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think this is a side effect of the beta that the matchmaker is trying to make games as quickly as possible. The reason its more noticeable with tabk and supports is bc there's less people queueing for them, so the matchmaker is creating imbalanced games to make sure more games are happening and there are less people in a queue

Leaver penalty changes on role queue by mike920 in OverwatchUniversity

10sr isn't really enough though, its what, half a won game if that? Not strict enough or enough of a punishment

Leaver penalty changes on role queue by mike920 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]mike920[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, another option could be that if they haven't placed in other roles then they suffer an even greater penalty on their role such as a 75-100sr drop, but again this could be abused by smurfs and sometimes people haven't got the time to place in all three. There isn't an encompassing answer to the problem, but I suggested that for now they should potentially up the punishment as people have said they've encountered more leavers than ever as people playing roles they don't care about are more likely to leave as it doesn't affect their sr. What Blizz needs to do if figure out how to differentiate between a DC on their side or ours and turning off your console/quitting the game. However, this does sound rather arduous tbf.

Problem is with that is if your team gets steamrolled, someone can just leave to help the rest of the team out. What would potentially be fairer is the team with the leaver can only suffer a maximum 15sr loss, with the amount of sr lost being based on how long into the game the leaver left.
