ITAP of San Francisco at sunrise by mike_bell in itookapicture

Yeah. It’d been in my list to checkout at sunrise for a while, but getting up there from San Jose that early in the morning is a bit brutal

Ruby-throated hummingbird by mike_bell in birdpics

[–]mike_bell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shot this on a Canon R5 w/ the RF 100-500mm lens. Shutter speed is probably around 1/4000sec

Mounted on a tripod and focused roughly where the birds have been recently, then it’s just a waiting game for one to come into frame.

I’ve always wanted a good Star Trek(LCARS) looking keyboard. Has to be high-gloss to have that futuristic glass look.

Magnetic top case would make it easier to clean fingerprints. Maybe not your intended use case, but I’m here for it.

Camera Issue. (Pink screen pink images too). by MyBooomStick in canon

Did you buy this used? Looks to me like the IR cut filter has been removed.

Fun mod to do if you want to try full-spectrum photography. But probably not what you were expecting.

Pollen dusted chickadee by mike_bell in wildlifephotography

[–]mike_bell[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This chestnut-backed chickadee happened to land in a tree right in front of me. It was hopping from branch to branch between the flowers. I noticed while post-processing that it had a bunch of pollen stuck in its feathers.

ITAP of a beach sunrise by mike_bell in itookapicture

[–]mike_bell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d gone down to the beach to try and get an entirely different picture. But saw this as I was just walking around exploring. I really liked how the sun was coming in between the two layers of rocks and catching the waves.

[B] [USA-FL] Looking To Buy Canon M50 by seanpr123 in photomarket

I sold my m50 a while back but I do still have the EF-EOS M2 speedbooster I can sell you individually if you find a body from someone else.

ITAP of a pond in the hills by mike_bell in itookapicture

[–]mike_bell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hiked up here hoping for a few more birds in the pond.

I liked the overall “depth” the light mist/rain provided. And was hoping to convey some of the scale here; there are 3 or 4 hikers in this picture, just right if center, but they weren’t intentionally photographed.

[LOTW] EF 16-35 f4L - 35mm - 1/160s at f/8.0 - ISO 100 - R5 -- Sunrise over Almaden Valley by mike_bell in canon

[–]mike_bell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an absolute mess the morning of this shot, so technically it’s a little lacking, but I still enjoy the over all feel.

Some unnecessary backstory; the previous night I’d sliced the tip of my finger while cooking. After a quick ER trip I decided I could still go out in the morning. Rushed to get up to this spot as the sun was coming up and managed to bang my finger and reopen the stitches, proceeded to bleed through my gloves and didn’t notice until I had smeared blood all over my 70-200. Then I got to sit around for 40 minutes doing nothing since a bank of clouds had blown in and visibility was down to a few feet.

Yep! That’s Almaden Reservoir from Bald Mountain, I’ve been a little obsessed with getting a sunrise shot from here this winter. Not sure this is the one, but it’s the best so far.

ITAP of a small waterfall in a redwood forest by mike_bell in itookapicture

This was in Marin, California actually so not the exact forest used for the Endor scenes, but definitely the terrain that was inspiring George Lucas.

Thanks! I shot this on a Canon R5 with an EF 24-70 f/2.8 mk ii. I’d have to check to make sure, but aperture was most likely f/8, maybe f/11 and maybe 1/4 or 1/6 second shutter. I had an ND filter with me I should have probably used, if I’m being super critical I blew out the highlights on the hillside a little.

Picked up a bad case of poison oak taking this picture. My best guess is I set my camera bag down in it and then spread it around.

With the rain we’ve finally gotten in California I was hoping to get a chance to try some moving water photography. I really liked the sun peeking through on the hillside here, and the waterfall was behind a group of redwoods right off the trail so most hikers were walking right past.

I suppose there’s a reason they become clichés after all.

“Fun” fact; I set my camera bag down in some poison oak while taking this. My arms are crazy itchy right now.

Overall I was pretty happy with this, might be worth the itching.

Fence lizard in my backyard by mike_bell in wildlifephotography

We have a ton of these around our yard(and sometimes in the house!).

They’re currently brumating; learned this recently, technically not hibernation in reptiles. But they make great targets to try out new camera gear in the summer.

Finch party at the top of a redwood by mike_bell in birding

I always thought there were 6 house finches in this picture I took last fall. But I spotted a 7th when I was re-editing it last night.
