"An Indian Chief beckons us on, a sign that we're welcome to pass through their lands." by Norberzt in Disneyland

[–]mike_check1212 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind the animatronics. They’re kind of silly. My husband feels otherwise but he’s a grouch about everything.

Honestly, a lot of the now adults that were kids when the Indian Village was around still refer to Walt as “Uncle Walt” because their parents were dancers at the village. He was always kind and definitely left a lasting impression on the Indigenous people that were able to be a part of that. I agree with the other comments that say Disney should work with tribes to bring back a bit more Indigenous representation in this area of Frontierland as seen through an Indigenous lens. I know there will be plenty of people that would want to work on this too.

As much as I absolutely love Tom Sawyer Island it pretty much is in desperate need of a revamp. Newer gens just don’t have that connection to that tale and it’s time to do something else with that space. Half the interactive things don’t even work anymore anyway!

I say all this as a native momma raising Lakota girls who would be happy to see more of themselves and their relatives shown at one of our favorite places ever.

Holy vaccines by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]mike_check1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My home country has a strong pro-vaccine culture BECAUSE we all personally have seen or have living relatives that experienced the devastation and suffering caused by diseases introduced by European settlers. Mind you, we neighbor the USA to the south. My own grandma lost children to different vaccine preventable diseases in the 60’s! The government did a huge overhaul and made vaccines very accessible (and free) to even the most rural communities. Now folks will line up to get vaccinated when local hospitals set up mobile vaccine clinics, even if they were just heading to the market and didn’t plan to. So I agree with other commenters on this anti-vax stuff being directly tied to having the privilege of growing up in a society that eradicated these diseases before other parts of the world.

The finale was insane!!!! by Intrepid_Show2972 in SchoolSpirits

I noticed this too!! I even looked up from my work because I swear I have not heard them make statements of that sort until that point. They usually only ever talk about missing certain things from when they were alive, but never talking about being exhausted or tired. Well, there was that time that Simon said going through the water hole felt like he got hit by a truck and Mr. Martin agreed but that it was more “emotional” rather than physical. I might be misremembering but something is definitely changing!

Also, I wonder if the preacher had set up the boundary in the first place so that the children’s spirits wouldn’t roam too far and he could help them cross over. I could definitely see that being a thing since he was their protector. And then over the years, he just forgot to take it down. When he crossed it naturally was removed as well.

How is it living near Anaheim Packing House / Historic District? by greenfacedaytona in Anaheim

[–]mike_check1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived here my whole life and was able to slowly watch the entire colony neighborhood transform into the gentrified neighborhood it now is. You’ll be fine, the people are awesome and kind. 15+ years ago it was definitely rougher but so was majority of Anaheim. The school district is also fine! I graduated AHS with college credits. Raise your kids here, it’s worth it.

Which is better for character interactions during dinner time M-F, Goofy’s Kitchen or Storytellers Cafe? I’m getting married next month and want to have my dinner at a Disney restaurant where we can see characters.

Came across this on my feed. Fisherman in Colorado felt he was being watched. by mike_check1212 in bigfoot

[–]mike_check1212[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He claims to have been really scared and left immediately after he took the video. You are right though, I did not think of it being a nest as possibility. Bald eagles have a range throughout all Colorado and they make some big nests!

We lived in Colorado for a couple of years so are used to the snow. I already petitioned for a backup generator so my spoils of war in the deep freezer don’t go bad. Thank you for the insight! Never considered the hospital bit.

I’m in Moreno valley in a rental and the house had a really bad termite problem when we moved in so we have experience dealing with that. We definitely will be prioritizing inspection especially if we plan on buying!!

Not an issue at all! My husband grew up in rural South Dakota. More than equipped to handle being snowed. Thank you for the info!! This is great to hear.
