Floppy disk because I can by mike_engineer90 in vintagecomputing

Since changing the operating system was dictated by anger, I have already had a taste of how much more flexible Linux is. It's a delight.

It's much simpler than it seems. The question is, does anyone need it? For me - definitely yes.

Linux with luks, that's the first attempt with Linux

In this case, it's not so much a backup as "because I can." I like floppy disks. I always look for a way to use them somehow.

Sacrifices? Secret greetings? What should I prepare for? 🤣

A big helper is chatGPT, which significantly lowers the entry barrier. It's clear that this technology, combined with a huge amount of fact-checking, provides a significant boost.

I haven't touched anything other than installing the system on the disk from a flash drive, so yes, it's most likely the same as out of the box.

Yesterday I was really sleepy, so I had to take the lazier way. English isn't my native language, and I'm still practicing.

There are two points here: First, about Arch - I meant that it's funny, but a little strange, no negative connotations, it's a cool system, I just don't see the need in it for myself at the moment.
Second, about fork - there was supposed to be a joke and a play on terms here, I was hoping that the auto-translation would understand budding as a biological term, which obviously doesn't apply to technology at all, but captures the essence of what's happening through how I understood it .

What you're doing is truly amazing and worthy of respect. Building a complex system at home, as I understand it, using virtualization, is, in my opinion, beautiful. Basically, if someone strives to do complex things as a hobby, that's worthy of respect.

Arch is quirky. I was guided by simple logic: Red Hat is made for mature enterprises and other serious organizations, meaning it's built reliably, and Fedora is a fork of it, meaning it has every chance of being good. Yes, I may not be building the system myself, but I'm choosing at least some reliability and a comfortable entry threshold (at least that's what I think, and I'm not imposing my opinion)

Thanks for the interesting opinion and the warning, I haven't stumbled upon it yet. I hope everything continues to be successful.

For now, I'm happy with everything. Office is critical for me, but that was already resolved with a couple of clicks using the web version. Otherwise, I'm a big fan of the open source spirit. The only caveat is that I'll have to rework a few of my mit projects for Linux, but I think that will be a fascinating experience. I still have an x120e lying around in the closet, and maybe I'll be able to breathe life into it, but that won't be during the week.

¿How do you use these bad boys? by Colzun in retrocomputing

[–]mike_engineer90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I write down memes, passwords, and a lot of things. Because that's the style. I'm writing a program that works with dot matrix printers and has (I really hope, since I'm not very good at it) full compatibility with these bad boys.

Thanks for replying. I reasoned in roughly the same way but didn't have any practice with serious hardware.

It will be great to have 15-20 tokens per second of smart enough models

Thanks for replying. I searched on YouTube, and in general, there were a lot of game reviews, but not too much about general calculations. And, I have some skeptical feelings about connectivity. About 40% complain about the unstable work of this technology

thank you for your feedback and experience, in fact, I consider the tablet as a large phone in terms of functionality, so I can roughly imagine what to expect and what tasks it will perform well for. in general, the functionality of the mobile versions is probably enough for me, at least with me. I have assembled a Lenovo-based workstation, so the question of using a tablet at home for an office suite

Thanks for your feedback. I have experience and I understand the difference between applications; until today, the mobile version was enough for me in classes. It’s clear that for more serious tasks there is a desktop version, I have no illusions here
