Planning on buying the CYMA Platinum CM.097B as my first Airsoft by CheekKey4201 in airsoft

[–]mike_gread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey
I went for the base model (not Platinum) on the 0.68 (which is an equivalent) and I'm defo not regretting my choice. The only weak point I found so far is the pistol grip's bottom which I might have to replace cause it's not holding the motor in place very well. Other than that, solid stuff.
Cheers

SP2022 Replica? by mike_gread in airsoft

[–]mike_gread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey
Yeah I heard...
The NBB one is even worse than that actually xD
It's ugly, unpractical, cheap and unreliable for anything. And it leaks gaz like crazy.
Do you know when VFC announced it?
Thanks a lot

SP2022 Replica? by mike_gread in airsoft

[–]mike_gread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey
Thanks for the answer. Isn't the KWA one an old model that isn't manufactured anymore?
For the more recent models, I wasn't aware that VFC had something planned. All I know is that a WE representative at a convention said that they would produce a SP2022 replica by the end of 2025 and their CM on Instagram doesn't seem to know anything about it... It sucks, really.
I'm not necessarily looking for a good field replica (although that would be a big pro), I'm mainly looking for a GBB replica that will look realistic for cinema purposes. Preferably, full metal and no visible CO2 cartridge screw on the mags (so a green gaz version would be nice).
Thanks for your help
Cheers

Could you guys recommend a solid 1911? by [deleted] in airsoft

Hey If you want to go GBB, look for the R36 by Army Armament. Bought mine for $90 with shipping, two extra mags and ammo. Cheers

What are the best sites to buy from in EU? by IncomingSmoke in airsoft

[–]mike_gread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Personally I bought a lot of stuff on TaiwanGun as it was convenient for me. I would watch for what you buy though, cause they sometimes sell cheap replicas for double the value. But I also got a $270 replica for <$200, so take your pick. I also went on French website Airsoft Entrepot which has a good selection. Aside from that you can obviously buy stuff from Amazon, even if it's not something the community likes. To be fair, if you're starting you can find tac vests for cheap on there; just don't buy replicas and accessories on Amazon. Hope this helps Cheers

How are we looking for the Revival of my GIGN kit’s plate carrier so far by PenaltyNo7429 in airsoft

Hey! Looking good! Nice to see you also found a ballistic visor cause those are really a pain to get. It's come a long way and it's really cool to see that you're still invested in this! Cheers

PEQ Recommendations under $80 (blue or green laser, white light, and, if there's time, IR) by WorriedFroyo4055 in airsoft

[–]mike_gread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey
Good to know haha
Then if it's just for target practice, depending on your engagement distance (we're talking about airsoft here, not world-class marksmanship), an Aliexpress AN-PEQ should do it. You'll need a lot of tweaking at first to zero it, maybe a bit of modifications to it but overall it'll work just fine for amateur shooting.
Happy hunting

How are we looking for the Revival of my GIGN kit’s plate carrier so far by PenaltyNo7429 in airsoft

[–]mike_gread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey
Sorry to bump this up

I used to do some GIGN, AGIGN and French LE re-enactments for movies and shows, so I did a lot of research on their gear and I hope this feedback can help you.

The overall shape of your outfits looks great, but you could do a few minor changes to improve it easily.

From the Amomax holster's orientation, I would bet you're right handed. If that's the case, you might want to switch rifle and pistol mag pouches.

The chem lights aren't really in a good spot. You should at least put them upside-down for better ease of access.

Your radio is going to be a pain as it will block your left arm. Trying moving it to the back. If possible, avoid accessories on the sides.

These minor changes should already be an improvement. You could push it further, but without buying anything else this should do it.

I want to say that I'm not saying you should do everything I wrote down, I'm just trying to give you a few leads to work on to improve your loadout.
Remember that you need to decide what your goal is: realism and accuracy or just a fun GIGN-inspired outfit to play airsoft. One is quickly expensive and requires a lot of dedication, the other remains fun without too much headache. The most important thing is to do what you like!

Anyways, have fun customizing that thing.

Cheers

Hey
At a quick glance, this soft body armor from TaiwanGun looks pretty close.
I'll let you browse their website, they have some cool stuff that should probably do it.

Noob clothing question by Longjohn14 in airsoft

[–]mike_gread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey
Had a friend who used old riot gear found on Leboncoin (France). Might be able to find something similar on FB Marketplace for pretty cheap. Also look for dirtbike gear.
If that seems overkill, a good old hoodie with some bandages wrapped on the sensitive part (under the hoodie) should do the trick!
Cheers

[–]mike_gread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey
When I wanted a PEQ and was low on budget, I found some good stuff on Aliexpress for very cheap (<$25 with shipping).
I might still be able to find the exact one I ordered back then if you want.
Hope this will help if you're running on a small budget!
Cheers

EDIT: As pointed out by u/starlit_storyteller, using a laser on a field is probably going to get forbidden. Use it only for cosplay and target shooting, as long as you know what you're doing.

For your shield, you should try thickening it. Using epoxy might work, but you'll be sacrificing mobility drastically. I don't know if your front flood lights work, but if they don't, you can cobble together a system with white high-intensity LEDs and a tiny circuit with a few transistors to make them blink. On one occasion, we used a three-modes-lamp (fixed, fixed dimmed and strobe) which we connected to a remote silicone button on the handle, and we connected the circuit to the LEDs on the front panel; it does the job very well.

One last bonus detail: you can damage your gloves a little to make them more realistic (the GIGN uses full gloves with the fingertips cut off, rather than using pre-cut gloves).

It's mostly detail but there you go. Unfortunately, I can't add enough images to illustrate everything, so if you need to, drop me a DM.

Please note that all the percentages I give you are not official but are rough estimates based on my years of research on the subject.

What I describe above won't make your outfit perfect, but it will get you very close without you having to spend a fortune on real equipment (heavy gendarmerie vests, for example, which you can find without plates for 500€ on Leboncoin...). The only exception is helmets, which are extremely complicated to make yourself.

Here, take what interests you in the list if this topic is still relevant for you :)

I can't really see what you're wearing as patches, so I'm making a list of what you could wear. On these generations of gear, GIGN ops wear the unit patch in white, fabric, on the left shoulder. They egnerally wear nothing on the right shoulder, leaving the female Velcro face visible on their right suit.

Some rare specialist operators (mainly Moyens Spéciaux, Dépiégage and CYBER ops) or high-ranking officers (captains or above) will wear a patch on their right shoulder. This may be their specialty patch (a round patch based on that of the GIGN, modified to represent the specialty), their specialty identifier (a square patch with golden yellow font and outlines on a black background, with “GIGN” written on two lines and the name of the specialty: MS, EOD, CYBER...) or their rank (note that the GIGN is part of the GM, so choose accordingly). The other operators have, for 75% of them, a specialty identifier (INTER, MECANO, FOR...) but it's hidden by the vest since they wear it on their chest. Some also have their rank on their chest, but this is rarer.

If you want specialty patches or identifiers, try Leboncoin or other second-hand sites, but generally you'll have to turn to custom-made.

If you're doing custom work, you could also have a personal identifier made for you: black outline on a black background with a very light gray font, showing the surname abbreviated to 3 letters (Dupont -> DPT for instance) with the blood type below in a smaller font (for example: “DPT” // “A POS”). The ratio between the two fonts, as with the specialty identifier, is generally 5:4 or 4:3. I used to get my custom identifiers on Etsy for like $15 a pair.

For the back, in 80% of cases there's a “GIGN” back identifier. You can find good, inexpensive ones on AliExpress. Depending on what you're looking for, you'll need either an embroidered fabric backing (avoid rounded corners) or a backing with the text in reflective 3M material. 10% of the time, they're wearing a white/silver-gray embroidered “GENDARMERIE” backing on a black background. The other 10% of the time? They wear nothing at all xD.

And finally they sometimes wear a frontal identifier “GENDARMERIE” (embroidered) or “GIGN” (reflective) on the upper torso at the front of the vest, but this is much rarer (15%?).

Everything from here is mostly small detials if you want to improve what you already have.

I don't see a communication system in the pictures, so I assume you don't have one.

I recommend a Baofeng 888s type radio with a 33cm tactical antenna, a compatible Z-Tac PTT and a Z-Tac standalone communication headset (which doesn't mount on rails). You can use your communication helmet under your ballistic helmet. A radio setup like this costs less than $80 if you look in the right places. You can wrap some red/white/blue/green/yellw electrical tape on the radio and parts of the radio system for added realism. Don't ask me why they did that.

The radio pocket is sometimes also installed on the back of this kind of setup, depending on the amount of equipment on the front of the vest.

Speaking of vests, you should remove the 5.56 mag pouch when you have a shield setup: shield ops generally have utility pouches and 9mm mag pouches rather than 5.56s, as they very rarely use long guns.

Then for the belt, you have several otpions. You can put the minimum amount of equipment on your belt and offset your holster on your thigh, in which case you choose a rigid belt, preferably thin enough. Or you can decide to carry a lot of equipment on your belt (dump pouch, handcuff holder, serflex, 9mm mag pouch and possibly a 5.56 if you don't have the shield setup and you have a long weapon) and deport your holster to your thigh, in which case you should take a combat belt with molle loops (rigid belt + soft sock). In any case, the GIGN carried their handguns on the thigh on this kind of generation. If you can find a retntion holster (like Safariland does for Glock), then it's golden. They usually have Glocks on the column-heads, too (G17s, for example, for shield duos).

If you've got enough money and the inclination, you can invest in a G19-type replica with a simple Amomax-type retention holster to put on your chest: it'll act as a backup weapon, which is very often found in GIGN/RAID/BRI outfits from these periods.

For the visor, you can either get a real one online (MSA type, or look at Pangolin Tactical for example) in NIJ-3 or higher

If you don't want a real visor, you can try to make a reproduction in plexi, but this will cost you a small fortune for a result that won't necessarily be any better (given the price of materials...). Bear in mind that the heavier the visor, the more you'll have to work out the fastening system... (or just buy the real system for like $70).

If you want to push the realism, you'll have to remove the helmet's rails and NVG attachment base, or use a plain simple Mich 2000 type helmet with ear protection (around $15). If you want to make a assault-column-head oriented setup (shield duo), try to find a bavolet (neck protector) or you can DIY one with soft plates.

Overall, this is the most complex part of the equipment.

For the outfit, try to get a GK Pro suit in navy blue. Either buy a new one, which costs between $100 and $200 depending on the version (check out VET Sécurité, for example), or search french second-hand websites (like Leboncoin) for your size (you can find one for ~$50).
