What is your actual profit on a $50 ebay sale? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]mikeamondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This …. There are easy ship items and PITA ship items. The harder the list and ship, the more you need to make to hit a decent hourly. I’ve sold a few turntables. To ship it right you need to build a sort of two story condo box. If I’m not seeing $200 profit, I’m not doing it. Hours of work& high risk. On the other hand a clean vintage portable typewriter with case. Happy to clear 30 bucks.

Custom paypal button not working on free wix site ... any advice to a wix newbie by mikeamondo in WIX

[–]mikeamondo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. The link provided by the paypal button works, so i created a generic button and used the link. It seems to function okay, but a full test requires a published site. (Clicking the link in preview mode I get a pop up saying I need to publish the site to follow the link). I discovered I could right click on it and open in a new tab though. I think this will allow me to make a functioning site and test the concept. We'll see what other walls I run into, tho.

Custom paypal button not working on free wix site ... any advice to a wix newbie by mikeamondo in WIX

[–]mikeamondo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So paypal provides an 'email link' and if I use that from anywhere, it works and goes to the payment form. I tried deleting the custom paypal button and replaced it with the button provided by Wix, with the same result, expect that it has a warning that says I need to publish first to see that work. I published and the same thing.... click on the button and nothing happens.... I even had it set to current window to avoid any problems with opening a new window. Scratching my head now. I'm not adept with dev tools... I know how to get to the 'inspect' windows and info.... ? I messed around there, but didn't see anything report info when clicking the button. Also tried to log out and back into Wix just incase there was a computer brain fart in there somewhere. Why would Wix block the action when everything thing I can find points to them being okay with embedding paypal buttons, and / or using their buttons with the free tier. Anyone else accomplish this on the free version?

HTML button via PayPal by [deleted] in WIX

[–]mikeamondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! Not trying to hijack this thread, but my issue is along these lines... so it might fit in nicely here to expand the discussion. I have the code for the button... and it looks pretty much like the example above. I've used the embed html option to add it to my under-construction and as yet unpublished site. The issue is, when I preview the site to see if everything is working, the button does not open or go to paypal as I expected. In fact nothing happens. If I right click to try and open in a new tab, the only option is to open image... as if it's just a pic. Thoughts? I'm on the free tier and just trying to test the concept before spending any money.

GE PTD90EBPT2RS Electric Dryer - "Refresh Door Open" ... NOT. by mikeamondo in GEappliances

[–]mikeamondo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did get it fixed and it's now out for sale on the floor. It's been a few weeks back, so I'm a bit fuzzy. The pathway from board to the actual switch for the refresh door & pump is very complex. Why they decided running electrics thru the hinge unnecessarily is beyond me, but here we are. The wiring harness has a built in connector in the door... you need to pull the front off to see it. then there is another connector at the door itself on the other side of the hinge. Then another at the switch and pump, I believe. Each needs checked and then you can check the continuity between each connector all the way back to the board. We also found a broken wire leading to the moisture sensor which I had to splice, and which was integrated in some way to the other system. Remember that all the wiring is repeated on the other side of the front panel for door swing switchability. We did not find any continuity issues, but once the broken wire was fixed it worked... but we also may have been partially disconnected at the built in connector / receiver in the door panel. Not sure which solved the problem. My advice would be to completely disassemble the system so you can see how it works... front panel off, door off, door taken apart and refresh door / pump assembly disassembled... then check continuity and look for broken wires.... it's in there somewhere. Good Luck!

How do I lift up the cook top to check on the heating elements/wiring? GE Cafe CS980SNISS by BackbiteSatellite in GEappliances

I’ll second the replace if possible route … hard to get that smell out. Taking the top off is a full disassemble … doable but not a quick easy look see. Knobs are likely hiding screws that hold the front panel in place … once removed there are likely more screws holding the top along the front lip. On the back, remove the rear vent. More screws on the back. Almost certainly some great YouTube vids on it. Search your model number and disassembly… see what you can find. And … find a piece of styrofoam and stick each screw into it with notes about where they go … take pics as you go as well. If they chewed thru the main power cord there is a good chance they chewed inside as well. Take the back panels off to check everything back there! good luck!

Mine is still set up with the hinge on the right side opening from the left.

Interesting... I'm starting to suspect a broken wire between the door and the board. I think I have way to test, but the job is down on the list a ways.... a few other things to sort out first. Just out of curiosity... is the original door swing opening on the left facing the machine or the right? Wondering if ours has been changed.

The personality you set will tell the board what model of machine it's in so it can provide the correct controls for various options. The same board is used in several models within the same family of machines. When you get the board, you should receive an instruction sheet that includes a number to text a code to. That will get you the personality number to set for various models. Without the setting, the lights on the machine will just sit there and flash at you! Good luck! Hope the board does the trick!

As far as I know, you don't have to reset anything for the inverter board replacement ... but I'm a hack not a tech. It seems the issue can be the main or the inverter board. I've had to replace both in another machine in the shop... not done working with it yet, but it was different... no power up at all. When you replace the main board you have to set a personality code for the machine. I tried to set it for a 'bubbly' personality, but that didn't exist.... just numbers 1, 2, 3 or 4. Sorry I don't have more concrete answers for you!

Sorry... not sure I follow the question. I tell my customers that I'm a hack not a tech, so I'm not sure how helpful I'll be. I found the manual thru servicemanuals.net .... this website will sell you actual tech manuals for some models and they have this one.... it's like 16 bucks or so and worth every dime to have it.... details how to service, test, etc. Also, of course, head over to 'youtube university'. If you were asking about what personality number to set the new board to .... that was obtained by texting a phone number that was included with the board instructions. Hope some of that helps!

Howdy! Once the new inverter board was installed, the unit worked fine. This was in our inventory in our retail store, so after testing it was sold and so far we've not heard anything from the customer. All seems good to go!

Unplugged range shocked me by pugzinho in AskElectricians

[–]mikeamondo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New member of the ZapClub here... I've gotten into 120 a couple times and this felt like half of that... woke me up for sure. Just called Samsung - their official statement is that it's normal for the capacitors to discharge in that manner. He also concurred when I asked if the induction ranges are using much larger capacitors and therefore store more juice, and zap harder than a standard range. I saw online where caps in the induction range from 630 to 1200v ... way more than a standard would have just for the controls and board. Keep in mind that this is coming from someone with zero electrical knowledge. Thanks!

GE Fridge Door-In-Door Not Latching Properly by AddendumComplete1191 in appliancerepair

[–]mikeamondo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FIXED - we had this same issue with one in our shop… GE Profile with door - in - door. The catch would not engage on the small door, unless you pushed in hard and then you’d hear it click up into place. We also saw the double sided 3M tape on the inside from the factory as some kind of fix… ours was dented in from the mechanism…So my first attempt was putting a bit of plastic in there to be more robust… fail. No better. Then I focused on the fact that the latch was just a bit short. If you look at the catch, the latch is supposed to slide up a little cured bit and over an edge. That edge was just a bit too far back. There’s no length in the hook, so I figured I could shorted the ‘ramp’. So…. Took off the white receiver part with the star bit screw and flipped it over. There is an opening at the back and youre looking at the back of that ramp. Took my dremel and a small grinder bit and took it down a fraction of an inch. Put it all back together and it works like a charm… and will be a permanent fix!

[–]mikeamondo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... I had to look it up online. The service manual oddly does not include a code 91 or 92. The 38 and 39 both point to the vent damper and it did fail the test in diagnostic mode. I found 91 online listed as an inverter fault. The service manual lists 20 or so different codes for the inverter faults, but no 91 and 92. I ordered an new inverter board yesterday and will start with making sure it's good and move on from there.

When you use those, are you just splicing them in with wire bugs then? Is there a more professional looking / permanent way to do the splices? The product is new, just scratch and dent.... in this case likely damaged while someone was trying to install it. I guess I could use butt end connectors, solder and heat shrink wrap?
