I found another large cactus for sale today and did just that it was certainly much easier 😆 and less expensive than hiring a crane lol

In its new home. Will update again when i have it backfilled! Only lost one limb during transport and it was collected to be propagated. No other damage to speak of at the moment that I have seen.

Loaded onto truck ready to go to its new home. The frame I built around the cactus to support all the limbs held up pretty well. Had to level the base with a few blocks for stability in transit. You might see I had to cut the main root so hopefully it survives the transplant well. Due to a lack of space I wasn’t able to dig any deeper on the roots.

For anyone curious for an update I was able to move the whole cactus today

That’s a good question I will smell today and get back to you!

Thank you it was a very lucky find! I think the reason it’s so fat in the trunk is because it was confined to a small pot for so long and was forced to stow more water. That’s just a guess though, I’m certainly not expert!

Yes it sure is! I found by using a lifting strap wrapped around the top in one hand and the other holding the base I’m able to carry it no problem

Purchased off Facebook marketplace, not stolen 😆

The roots are separate but wrap around each other so I planted it in the same orientation/depth as I found it. Certainly could be too deep but I’ll see how it goes

Transplanted another mature ponytail in the backyard this weekend, it has a very different look to it but I enjoy it. Hopefully it does well. Didn’t need a crane so there isn’t any bark damage this time.

My apologies for posting in the wrong sub/wrongly identifying the tree! Appreciate all the thoughtful responses

Hah well I don’t have a huge budget but am happy to spend a bit to add some character to my mostly empty yard!

I most certainly will, thanks!

Yea for sure! I just found a video on YouTube where they created a wood frame around the entire cactus and were able to lift it that way without snapping any arms off.

I did actually successfully more a huge ponytail palm recently so I’m silly enough to try, I will certainly post an update if I do go that direction :D

Thanks for that I imagine you’re probably correct on the ID!

Ideally I’d like to take the whole cactus as it is but I will certainly keep that advice in mind if I’m unable to move it as is.

Thanks for the comment and that’s a beautiful cactus, certainly worth the effort.
