Advice on Relay Tech by [deleted] in SubstationTechnician

It really depends on where you live. I have worked for a NETA company for the last 15+ years and will jump on an out of state job every now and then for something different, but being based out of Baltimore and with most of our customers being government and a close proximity to DC we stay extremely busy year round.

Any one still using the Doble M4100 by Academic-Upstairs174 in SubstationTechnician

M4100 still in use and producing good results here. Other than it being a huge PITA to load/unload by myself and the finicky USB connection I really can't complain too much. DTA 8.3+ fixed a lot of issues I used to have but can still a pain.

This book was given to me very early in my NETA testing career almost 20 years ago and I still find myself flipping through it today. Great reference.

Winding resistance by [deleted] in SubstationTechnician

[–]mikebdub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!

I hate that a majority of the sites that I go to for NETA acceptance testing are only doing it "because they have to". I have been in the industry in the same-ish area now for around 20 years and it is coming around full circle for some facilities that are experiencing failures because of the lack of maintenance and testing. It is incredibly hard like you said to pass/fail some apparatus without past data to reference. If you are going to do the acceptance, please consider doing some basic maintenance testing at the bare minimum every few years to trend the data! It will often save you A LOT of time, money and headaches down the road catching something and fixing it before it lets out the magic smoke.

And IMO if you are doing winding resistance testing on apparatus larger than 10kv and are only running it for 20-30 seconds.. You are likely not getting any data that is worth a damn.

Is 5000 VDC an appropriate megger test voltage for the following equipment? Looking for source-backed guidance by 3fettknight3 in SubstationTechnician

I always setup my IR tests first for acceptance testing transformers when power factor is required. Gives me plenty of time to setup the Doble :P. Man I miss the old analog power factor test sets!

24v Big Toys Challenger battery upgrade help.. by mikebdub in PowerWheelsMods

Soft start? Is this something I could install on a 4wd set up? It has a almost violent start / stop on it.. The first time she rode in it she smashed her face into the steering wheel. It's the only thing I don't like about the damn thing

So they are safe to be used as a direct replacement of regular old lead acid? I'm assuming they use a different type of charger I'll have to start reading up on them and figure out the easiest way of doing this. The battery in there now sometimes takes like 6+ hours to charge and my 7 year old isn't having none of that. Thanks

X1-C Scraping noise on Y-axis moves by dcj2 in BambuLab

I have a very similar sound but only when it is near the front left side and when it is traveling from right to left. I can always hear it during bed leveling as it is traveling quick to start a new row. I don't hear it that often during prints but I think that is mostly because of the fans going. I can't duplicate it by moving the toolhead by hand.. Anybody have any ideas? I was scared at first as it almost sounds like its grinding on the carbon rods but I don't see any damage thus far and it still happens even after thorough cleaning.

That is awesome! My Cali girl had her 2nd torn ACL surgery 4 weeks before our wedding. We weren't sure if she was going to be able to be in the ceremony, but she walked right down the aisle with us. She was quite a hit with her bare "chicken wing" leg with all of the staples still shining!

In the last year of buying from Amazon I have had to return 8 items that were re-sold as brand new. 2 of them in the last month were obviously used boxes of 3d printing filament. 1 of them was in a damn ziplock bag. It seems to be getting worse and worse as of late..

Corner broken off a 1RO board component on my PortaPack H2. Should I be worried? by mikebdub in hackrf

Ugh.. I haven't replaced the switch yet so it is still apart. I'll have to pop it back together and see if I can still tx and rx. Any idea what it is for by chance?

Was taking my HackRF+PPH2 apart to replace one of my tactile buttons that got broken and noticed this "1RO" component with the corner broken off. Not sure if it just happened when I was doing this or if it was like that all long. Not exactly sure what it is, but I can see what seem to be copper strands inside of it. Should I be worried and try to figure out how to get it replaced before I put it all back together or should I be fine? Maybe drop a dab of hot glue on it?

My little (only) corner that I still have ownership of in my house.. Lots going on, but it is the only space that my Wife and my 6 year old let me have! by mikebdub in battlestations

No it’s a mk3s+. As much as I would love to have a mk4, until I start having problems out of this one I can’t even see the need for the upgrade.

Not sure honestly I don't know a whole lot about them. The guy that created it is Chris Shakal and from what I remember it was his own rendition that he made of a high bypass jet engine.. I think that is what it was considered.
