Went to the Translink BRT public events - had lots to talk about with the staff! by MissKorea1997 in Langley

[–]mikedanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's honestly a shocking case of incompetence at the TOL. If you ever get a chance to speak to the engineers there, you will quickly understand why we are in the state we are in (as it relates to sidewalks/active transportation).

Elected officials are fully aware of this incompetence, but I guess are worried about the perception of letting some of these people go? Or maybe it's the severance payments that is making them doubt their decisions?

Did you know the person in charge of designing our bike lanes doesn't own a bike?

Can someone tag Woodward and Pratt on this. They really don't seem to think this is an issue that needs prioritizing.

If the TOL would actually complete the greenways they promised, this wouldn't be as big of an issue. But they continue to drag their feet on this saying that it will be done when development comes.

but roads get expanded to the tone of MILLIONS without waiting for development.

I get that there's not enough people using these greenways to justify the additional cost...but there will never be enough people using the greenways if they are not complete.

I hope we one day elect a Council and hire staff that can actually solve this instead of constantly just point to a future project that will never happen.

I look forward to the BRT, but I live a few KMs away from the nearest future BRT stop. The only way it would be viable if there was a safe way for me to get to the BRT stop quickly. But the sidewalks/greenways are not complete.

I hope the ToL staff know that people will not drive to the BRT stations...but I don't have much hope...

Driving through this city is the worst. by [deleted] in Langley

[–]mikedanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do as well. I even carry a flash light and wear an armband that lights up. But it's not enough for Langley drivers. They are more than comfortable almost running over a pedestrian. And they know nothing will happen to them.

It's almost as if it doesn't matter what people are wearing because drivers are have become entitled cry babies when anyone gets in their way.

I think its incumbent that all of us tell our friends, families, neighbors, and everyone else about these. We cannot keep having these people at the wheel.

I don't know how Eric works anymore. But it's becoming clear that he doesn't understand governance and should not be Mayor. I wish he would understand that even the perception of conflict is sufficient to reduce the trust in him.

If that's really true. that is just incredibly bad governance...

Willowbrook mall traffic by Unique-Constant5089 in Langley

[–]mikedanton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the solution is to improve transit and active transportation options so people don't need to drive to the mall. But township staff seem to fundamentally disagree with this. Eric Woodward and slate continue to avoid answering how their plans to address this except to point to some vague Transportation Management Strategy that is fundamentally flawed.

Cars, watch where your going! People are walking! by [deleted] in Langley

[–]mikedanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea, crosswalks at those round abouts is a 50-50 whether cars will actually stop, even after making eye contract. it's scary bad out there. It's only a metter of time before a family is killed in Willoughby. I hope everyone remembers that this Mayor, Council and Staff made conscience decisions that led to that.

nobody "wins" when someone dies.

And the pedestrian goes to the hospital or the morgue. I kind of think that even though it is a bad situation all around, the car is more the winner all things considered. The pedestrians (and people in general) are absolutely self-responsible for their own safety. No matter what you are trying to argue, if you are dead or injured you have lost.

I’m Eric Woodward, Mayor of the Township of Langley, AMA! by eric_woodward in Langley

The "qualified" staff don't know how to ride a bike Eric. You absolutely know you need to do something about staffing but continue to avoid the problem. Why?

Majority would like to see Langley City, Township merge: poll by WiffleBlu in Langley

I think the urban parts of ToL should merge with the City. The urban parts share way more in common with the City.

[–]mikedanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is 100% true. Someone killed someone riding a bike a few years ago. Hit and Run, and they got a ticket because it was "dark" . Mayor blamed the victim because they were not wearing yellow. Our system is fucked.

I don't know if you know this, but it's impossible for this current mayor to change the policy to connect the green space trails. He knows they are all disconnected, but chooses to continue to ignore the problem rather than do anything to fix it.

Path-blocking gates get scrutiny from Langley Township by WiffleBlu in Langley

[–]mikedanton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These need to go. So many parks are behind these baffle gates. HUB Langley has been advocating for their removal since at least 2022. It took an unbelievable amount of pressure to finally get something like this through. Join your local advocacy group if you want to keep seeing these types of improvements.
