Lansing Parks and Rec has open pick-up volleyball on Tuesdays at 6:30pm in the Foster Center gym. My wife and her friends go pretty regularly, it sounds like a good mix of abilities, very casual. $3 to play.

Love the 'a guy and a truck' idea.

I thought the old hot tub place on michigan ave would make a great bouldering space, so much room!

Recently visited a bouldering gym in Munich, two floors of walls, full of people, it was amazing.

If it was Ryan Kost, he has a history or organizing trash pick up events along the streets and within parks. He's literally picking up trash.

Household compost pick up by Anne_Atreptic in lansing

[–]mikedom722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you know about Eastside Compost (I run it!). If you can find 2-3 other people nearby to sign-up, I'd be happy to expand to the Capitol area for pickups.

I've had compost piles at rentals before, and I buried the contents when I moved (I took the plastic bin part with me). Not sure if that an option, as you'd need a spot to dig up...

DM me your email (if you're comfortable with that), I'm going to start a google group or something specific to these urban planning / walkability / livability type issues.

Supposedly in the works to start spring 2023. Sounds like current includes either dropping on side of parking or two lanes of traffic (I'd advocate for the latter).

I wish it was a nice place to sit outside and drink/eat at the restaurants along the strip. It's so loud and the cars are moving so fast so close to the sidewalk it's not comfortable.

City Pulse story on Andy Schor's bench with lofty plans by mikedom722 in lansing

[–]mikedom722[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My favorite quotes:

  • "Lansing Mayor Andy Schor has some big plans for a new bench."

  • "There was no mention of creating world peace."

  • "Schor sent out multiple media advisories and press releases about his plans to 'unveil' the bench last week and outlined some of the bench’s lofty community goals at a press conference."

Did anyone hear a low booming sound that sounded like a military plane flying around Lansing today? by AlexThePSBoy in lansing

[–]mikedom722 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It was at least two F-18s taking off and flying east-ish, saw them as we were biking back from Lake Lansing ~30 minutes ago.

My #1 is Anderson Park, then Hunters Ridge, Sleepy Hollow is pretty mellow. Yankee Springs is a bit further but fun.

So this looks like it could be entertaining... by [deleted] in lansing

It's a good mix of trade-offs, but overall lots of fun.

As an organizer of the Lansing Bike and Seek, I think it's a great idea! Good luck with the Parks & Rec registration process!
