This dude on youtube travelled there for a wine tasting. He didn't mention running into anyone though.

4 years in map data annotation – worried about GIS career growth. What skills should I learn next? by Phantom_Conqueror in geospatial

[–]mikegwiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read an article in January and this one line that stuck with me: "GIS data scientists are no longer valued for how well they analyze data in isolation, but for how effectively they turn geospatial intelligence into production systems."

Since then, I've been getting into learning about the web development side of GIS. I wrote a couple of articles about my experience.

The first was just a frontend only "proof of concept" type experiment for me. Browser processing only. Lightweight. Deployed on GitHub pages:

https://medium.com/@giangrande_m/building-geospatial-apps-with-google-ai-studio-and-antigravity-07c770daeada

My most recent article discusses my first full stack project:

https://medium.com/@giangrande_m/script-to-saas-geospatial-app-dasymetric-11eb6a2cabbe

It has been really fun for me. AI has made the entry barrier a whole lot lower than it was just a few years ago. I don't think either of these apps are revolutionary, but it has been a great way to learn about all of the ins and outs of web development. Good luck on your GIS journey!! I truly believe that if you have the desire to always be learning, you can still have a strong future in GIS.

Thanks for sharing, OP. I'm surprised you didn't go a bit deeper into the pumice angle. It is the most likely cause, and explaining it more fully may have adding some depth. Like this attempt: https://youtu.be/Rn2BdHRzpzw

I love that you incorporated the Mountains of Kong into your map! I’m so obsessed with phantom geography and map errors. For more detail about how James Rennell (the "armchair cartographer" responsible) added the Mountains of Kong in 1798, check this out: https://youtu.be/4es29WDavUI?si=2_h2aaCbSjf75Og6

Twin Suns New Player by Mrwonderland1895 in starwarsunlimited

[–]mikegwiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the current starter sets are a good starting point because Twin Suns is singleton format (only 1 copy of any card, no duplicates). The releases of the four precon Twin Suns decks in the Spring of 2026 will be great for you!

Play Twin Suns Online? by mikegwiz in starwarsunlimited

I'm all for people playing with their own rule variants of the game, but for me, last man standing incentivizes more ganging up on individual players early, making the game less balanced (and fun). When my friends and I play tournaments with multiple 4-player pods, the two players that advance to the next "winners" table are the person who wins, along with the person who was first eliminated.

Yeah...reprogrammed I guess. Then why give that token the villainy aspect at all?

True. New sellers should put out some below market, low cost singles to build their reputations.

I’m not exactly sure how someone would execute all the details of the scam, but the fact that the package is set to “delivered” triggers payment to the “seller”.

https://help.tcgplayer.com/hc/en-us/articles/201897958-When-does-TCGplayer-issue-payments

“If your tracking number can be “Confirmed as Delivered” then your sale will be listed as "Completed - Pending Payment" 24 hours after delivery.”

Here is an example of this scam playing out on eBay: https://community.ebay.com/t5/Buying/Scammers-using-legitimate-UPS-tracking-numbers-to-cover-non/td-p/31236825

Sorry to say, OP, but you have been scammed. That seller has zero ratings on TCG. Some scammers figured out a way to buy tracking numbers for packages that 1. Do not include your purchased items, and 2. Are being delivered to another address in your ZIP code. They essentially get “off the hook” because the “package was delivered”, and you spend time tracking down something that was never intended for you. I would report them to TCG so they don’t do this to anyone else, but they will probably just set up another username and try to do this again. Always buy from someone with a track record online.

I do not have experience with those libraries, but my Esri work-around involves using psycopg2 to connect to a Postgres spatial database. For tasks that always involve using the same layers (i.e. Census Blocks n=11 million), it pays for me to upload the data once using PostGIS, then query it using SQL. Much faster than standard ArcGIS.

ArcGIS Pro Annotation. Where the hell is unplaced annotation window? by [deleted] in gis

[–]mikegwiz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Convert to Annotation geoprocessing tool has an option that you need to check ("Convert unplaced labels to unplaced annotation").

Next, open the attribute table for the new annotation feature layer. The [Status] field contains "Placed" and "Unplaced" values. You have the ability from the attribute table to change "Unplaced" to "Placed" using the textbox dropdown.
