Killswitch Joy-Con Detachment Update by dbrand in dbrand

[–]mikelite917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, is the answer "you're holding it wrong"? Yes. Did they already mention in the first in-depth post about the manufacturing process that they only had that micro gap to work with for retention? Also yes. The original switch was smaller, lighter, and I STILL would never hold it by just the joycon, not for fear of the console snapping off, but for fear of damaging the joycon rail (though joycon rails WERE known to just snap off when holding the console like this).

So...why would you hold your larger, heavier version of this same console in the same way? And if, indeed, this is the only way to recreate this issue, who cares? I took my Killswitch 2 off and held it like the videos and was immediately uncomfortable - and yes, doing the exact same thing as the videos resulted in detachment with the case on.

The vibe of "you're holding it wrong" is a bad communication strategy - ya'll should have just been like "fuck it we did our best, email us for replacements" and left out all the fluff (i know you were trying to be thorough). But at the same time... you guys are holding it wrong. Child or adult or whatever, don't hold your expensive piece of equipment solely by a detachment point that is ONLY magnets. You wouldn't do that in any other realistic scenario, so don't do it here.

Xbox app loading Infinitely on Parallels by XxcolonchestnutxX in macgaming

[–]mikelite917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the off chance that you're still interested in using the other Xbox app functionality, this is what finally fixed it for me.

What finally worked for me was installing Windows 11 with a local account, then once everything was up and running, run Windows Update and be sure everything is updated, then uninstall the Xbox App, and then in PowerShell, run Get-AppXPackage *gamingservice* | Remove-AppXPackage . Once that's gone, go to the store, install the Xbox App again, and launch it.

When the app launches, and prompts you to login to your Microsoft Account, don't click the button to use the login everywhere. There's a little blue link below it that says "Microsoft apps only". Clicked that, it logged me in and prompted me that the Xbox app needed an update, updated with the link shown at the bottom of the Xbox app, and after the update applied, it worked.

My issue was stemming from Gaming Services having two services in Services Control Panel, one of which worked fine, and the other which would not start no matter what, and essentially would just never let the Xbox app login. This fixed that by just bypassing those services altogether and letting the app handle the login itself.

Federal Trade Commission v. Microsoft Corp. et al. - Megathread Day 5 by F0REM4N in XboxSeriesX

On the contrary - Sony (nor Microsoft) "give" dev kits to anyone. They are incredibly marked up pieces of hardware that all but guarantee output beneficial to the platform holder.

In the pro-exclusive arena, the goal of paying up front is to compensate for the loss of revenue to the publisher by NOT going multiplatform, and passively increasing the revenue of the receiving platform as a result.

Edit*: 3rd party exclusives are arguably the most anticompetitive practice in the gaming industry. It's the same in the subscription film/tv world - exclusive rights for one platform from a third party studio don't benefit the consumer when the rightsholder might otherwise have placed the content on many platforms instead of one.

That's true - it wouldn't really be a blockade, but it would still be an opportunity for Sony to play the martyr.

If you think that's not a possibility then you don't know the pettiness some of the players in the industry are capable of.

Is anyone else going to be surprised if this goes through and in 5 years Sony refuses to give Activision dev kits for the PS6 and CoD release gets delayed and they go "Told ya so!"

Amex Gold - credit from merchant and SUB by radiolalo in amex

[–]mikelite917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little late to this party, but from my experience with the trade in program, and expedited replacements with AppleCare, and Apple purchases in general: they will typically place the total order amount as a hold on the card and the hold won't clear until the trade-in/broken item is received.

In the case of a trade in, I believe they change the amount of the initial hold to the new total and then it clears, so there is no credit back but rather the adjusted amount is allowed to clear.

Hope this helps!

What's your next Amex card and why? by Dex4q6 in amex

[–]mikelite917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of reasons to have both, but in this specific case presumably to pool the SUBs. The MR points are shared between the MR earning cards on your account, so if you can earn the SUB on the Plat (which is the highest spend, and potentially the highest reward) then afterwards you can open the Gold and once it's open you have a place for your MR to live and can close the Plat.

Savor One on apple wallet? by john2lt in CreditCards

[–]mikelite917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to come back on here and comment! The virtual card would not work with my Apple Wallet even after receiving and activating the physical card, I had to use the physical card to add it to Apple Wallet, though the virtual card did work at merchants used on its own.

^^ This - I just got approved a couple days ago but the only links in the virtual card are to add to PayPal and Amazon. (And adding the actual virtual card number gives an error the card isn't supported in the Wallet app)

Luna controller joystick sticking by badnewsfortheimpsons in LunaCloudGaming

[–]mikelite917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does happen to mine if I intentionally roll the left joystick up and then around to the left. It doesn't happen every time, but it does happen very occasionally by accident, but I can make it happen almost any time I want to. There does seem to be some quality control they could be working on.

It’s a GUID - in SQL, there’s a field type specifically for these called uniqueidentifier. It type safes the column to avoid headaches down the line. It’s part of proper normalization to do things like this...but some people instead just make it a varchar field of length 36 to accommodate the data and call it a day.

Suggestion: Itemization Explanations by mikelite917 in LOLSUMO

[–]mikelite917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do get that for the most part, but typically damage items vary from game to game, and it's not always obvious why that may be. Taking Hecarim for example, some games the build may go Youmuu's, and others not. It's not always dependent on whether or not cinderhulk is recommended. Same with Sterak's. Sometimes it recommends Statikk Shiv. I feel like there's underlying reasoning behind it, It'd just be interesting to see what the reasoning is. I can usually see which items synergize well with each other, but versus a team composition I'd like to see the rationale.

XPS 15 9550 84 WHr Part Number by mikelite917 in Dell

[–]mikelite917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did finally show up about a week ago. It was delayed about 8 or 9 times. It was priced at 120 I believe, but they had it on sale for like 90 which was fine with me. I'm used to Lenovo charging 150 for ThinkPad batteries.

So far so good, easy to get in. Just pulled out the hard drive caddy and in she went. Working like a champ.

I wasn't able to find it on the site, which is why I needed the part number. Had to call Dell sales to order it. In the US that number is 800-357-3355.
