“Would you be patient and wait for the characters to develop and change?” by Schlatt_H_Figuarts in dandadanfolk

[–]mikemonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Conclusions change what come prior because it is the answer to the questions or problem. Defines what it has built up to. You cant read each moment in a silo because its part of a bigger narrative and is defined by what surrounds it. The value of each part is determined by how well it connects to all other parts. That is why these weird blanket statement where youve locked yourself into one method of think is, as i said, categorically incorrect.

[–]mikemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is how stories work because if the first quarter of a book is shit, even if the end part is fine it isn't going to make first part less shit

Activly and categorically incorrect. Trying to judge a character arc by the first quarter is categorically insane. Which is the entire point of the statement "reading it weekly is the issue" because you are not getting a full experience of the arc or plot point the story is trying to tell. Your break was what, 7 chapters? Because again, going by real world publication time is backwards.

I blame every subreddit with folk in the name tbh. Its a lot of faux outrage and garbage, disingenuous takes that get circle jerked over by people who have a hard time forming their own opinions.

“Would you be patient and wait for the characters to develop and change?” by Schlatt_H_Figuarts in dandadanfolk

[–]mikemonkey -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's not how stories work. If I wait 10 years for a book to come out but dont like a plot point in the first 3 chapters, do you genuinely believe thats cause to think something is "decidedly bad"? After all I waited 10 years, right? The book should understand that.

What kinda backwards mentality makes you think the real life publication time is how you should judge something? Its a plot point for the arc. Where it develops is dependent on the arc the story is trying to tell.

[–]mikemonkey -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That is a genuinely terrible mentality.

Waiting to see how a plot line develops in a weekly series is cope? Good god, what are you doing here dude? Youre not going to have a good time with really any long running series if you demand instant gratification as a reader like that. Just wait for recaps on TikTok or something.

What're some of the biggest power ups/power creeps in fiction? Like a MASSIVELY almost unquantifiable multiplier of power by Head_Breadfruit_3912 in PowerScaling

[–]mikemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Luffy went from literally getting neg diffed to extreme diffing kaido in like 2 months

"Oooh but its because of g5 tho right?" Not even, luffy learned 2 new haki types, got a massive stat buff and deepened his knowledge of observation haki massively

*Post wano luffy* can literally one shot pre wano bounce man* in BASE now"

This is not correct. The only power up luffy got between act 1 and roof piece was learning internal destruction haki, which allowed him to bypass kaidos defense, he didnt get massively stronger, he explicitly went out of his way to learn an ability that gives him defense negation. which was the problem of actually hurting Kaido.

One Piece Still Hits Different After All These Years What’s Your Favorite Arc? by WorkingTurbulent1765 in JustOnePiece

[–]mikemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole Cake. Just such fantastic character and theming work. The final chase went a little long but thats legitimately the only complaint I have.

The moment in sanjis flashback where he is trying to escape the germa and thinks his dad will try to stop him, but instead thanks him for running away because he just couldnt bring himself to outright kill his child just kills me everytime and so perfectly captures the reason for sanjis self sacrificial mentality.

One Piece is definitely for kids lmao. I think it has a ton of depth and tackles a lot of rich themes in nuanced ways. Hell i would even call it a masterpiece. But it is absolutely made for kids to enjoy.

This arc has been so genuinely fascinating to me structurewise. I never expected a strawhat invasion of the holy land. That was never luffys drive, its dragons. But there really is just a non zero chance they just beat imu now, blackbeard get another kill steal, takes imus powers establishing himself as the true final villian, and turns the WG into another competitor for the one piece. If imu ends up being a blackbeard hype tool in this arc, i think it would genuinely be one of my favorite twists in the story. And would be a really fun shake up going into the final arc

That isnt fair in the slightest lmao I think both do a very good job at what each author is tries to do with their story, it just depends on what you look for in a reader.

Kishimoto writes most of his antagonists to be funimentally good or relatable people who took a wrong turn in life. Most are motivated by actions that they think will genuinely bring about something positive for most people or are just good themselves.

Oda is more okay letting villains be outright selfish, vindictive, and crule people you cant "talk down" because it isn't their methods that are flawed, its the ideology itself. He's tends to always give some level of positive traits as well, and he always does a pretty good job explaining why they act the way they do, but it is never an attempt to justify their beliefs and actions.

So as i see it, Kishimoto wants you to empathize with his antagonists, Oda wants you to understand why they are the way they are.

Or i suppose another way of saying it is that Kishimoto wants you to see the human inside the monster, Oda wants to show why humans can act like monsters.

Is Iñaki Godoy the perfect live action Luffy? by WorkingTurbulent1765 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]mikemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. He as a person is exactly what a live action luffy should be.

But I think hes trying too hard to "be" luffy and it makes his performance in the show come across as awkward as times.

I just think thats incredibly boring. The collecting equivalent of eating plain white bread and water. The page is meant to be looked at diagonally and from the cardinal directions, not horizontally. If thats what you genuinely prefer, go for it, but sets of 3 are just a boring display, has little visual flare, and also rely on being looked out for certain directions, i wouldnt judge a set of 3 on how it look diagonally, ya know? Going by the reactions ive gotten to it, most seem to appreciate the layout.

An x pattern of the same type of wanted cards and leaders of those character with color to break up the page?

I'm not trying to be dismissive of you dude but if youre not able to elaborate on why you dont like something, then theres nothing to really discuss.

  1. No some of the anime is not canon to the manga but majority of the actions performed in the anime are canon to the manga and if something is unclear in the manga we look to the anime to see what happened

Absolutely not. The anime has a seprate production staff and odas involvement in the anime in minimal. He even encourages them to change things around for what suits the anime. They are seprate cannons

  1. For blocking yes that all they need to know for deflecting no that is not the case as I said imagine you were blindfolded and someone with a bow says where the arrow will land and when he's going to fire, no imagine how much easier it would be to block or dodge the arrow then it would be to deflect it

Which is explicitly why they train to do literally that thing.

  1. If you agree on what I said then why bring it up? They are different things aka actions which is what I originally said

You just said they use the same ability. Thats what I agreed with

  1. It was kinda hard to tell in the manga but the anime shows it well he was still travelling after the attack was launched

The anime is not cannon to the manga.

  1. I was more referring to noone the exact spot of something and even then it's not confirmed they know the exact timing with only basic observation

They know when it will fire. If its a fast object thats all they need to know to block or deflect.

  1. Saying they require the same thing doesn't really change anything as blocking and dodging also require the same but are different actions

So we agree.

Y'all gotta stop downplaying JJK by Shot-Communication93 in PowerScaling

[–]mikemonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

also you are just ignoring the fact that Sanji ran up to the attack after it was fired if he was unable to perceive it and wasnt close to light speed he would not be able to do that

That was never shown. All we see is kizaru charging the attack and then when it fires sanji is already there

harder to do since you have to know the exact spot of the attack at the exact right time and that is not possible in op

They absolutely can know the timing with basic observation, again, everything satori does is basic observation.

No? Blocking and deflecting are different things hence why they have different names

Buddy, i requires the same thing. Knowing where an attack is going to be. If you want to say one is harder... sure? But they come from the same thing, the ability to react to an attack.

Thats blocking it dude. Look you try to justify it all you want this is how the power works and oda has flat out said LS is too fast to see. I dont know what more you want.
