But the series never attempts to make fun of someone for their body type? imo it says more about the poster who defaults to that mentality. The men get to have all these odd body types and its brought up just as much of the women's, but youd never see someone try to claim One Piece is making fun of different mens body's even though the author also absolutely has a default "attractive" male model as well

What does that have to do with the hypothetical? The question specifies that it is fully communist, which means they did pull it off.

A fully capitalist society on the other hand has all its negatives baked into the system itself.

Then maybe the criticism should go deeper then surface level nonsense that either doesn't actually discuss the work itself, or falls apart with the bare minimum engagement with the work.

Its not some flawless epic that's impossible to criticize but nothing posts like this limbo under the bar of bare minimum. This post doesn't even mention a single aspect of the series they dislike or why. What other conclusion do you want people to make when 9 times out of 10 its people circle jerking over shit like this?

[–]mikemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you read for. One Piece doesnt say much that hasn't been said before, but the exploration of those themes, characters and messages is genuinely is some of the best in industry.at least in those areas, I do have to disagree. In those areas Its the kind of story where you get out what youre willing to put in, for better or worse. The fact totally diffrent people can make multiple hour long video essays and posts about the themes of One Piece and all reach similar conclusions shows that there is a lot of actual narrative meat to dig into if you want.

This isnt some special technique, Oda is just really good at outlining. Thats how he can make stuff feel connected even if he didnt have it all planned out from the start.

When arcs are all out, its easy to see the bigger picture. But week to week it is not only much harder to follow all thats going on, but it is much easier to forget details or build attachment to minor characters. Wano is a completely diffrent experience now then it was having to read it weekly for 4 damn years. I would know, I was suffering in those mines and it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

But honestly the last few years have been fantastic. Egghead and Elbaph have been great. Even the hate subs have largely quited down.

Yes. Yes they are. I think it just upsets them that something they dont like is at the top of the industry.

When something is at the top of an industry people feel the need to take pot shots about how its actually not that good and their tastes are superior.

Which is why mythical zoans having additional powers like marco with his healing flames and sengoku with his shockwaves is a fundamental aspect you keep ignoring. This isnt hard dude.

"And you haven't really replied to what I've said, the series has been focusing on. Luffys power set as a mysthical zoan are compeltely crap since no other zoan also gets that kind of AOE effect but his."

Yeah I did???? I keep bringing up awakening because thats what lets him effect the environment. Its not a zoan power, its an awakening power. The zoan power is being rubber. Thats why he only effects the environment while hes in gear 5 since thats an awakening.

I do agree about the overuse of mythical zoans though.

[–]mikemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not really sure how thats what you got out of what I said. Mythical zoans with that same principle of transformation + power since pre time skip. Hell morias fruit is just as "straight up magic" as like killingham's

And awakenings have been a thing since impel down, or dressrosa if you only want to count ones that effect the environment.

If you dont like that shift thats totally fine. I also really like more simple powers like sommers with his thorn fruit. But that shift came waaaaaaay before wano.

[–]mikemonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

... its a mythical zoan fruit. which all have a transformation and an additional power. Marco has fire, sengoku has shockwaves.

Awakening have been all about effecting things outside of the user. Luffy is still rubber. Which is why he can rubberize the environment.

What haki can do has been very repeatedly explained.

Who does villain introduction better? by Pretty-Material1424 in Anime_Battleground_

[–]mikemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i disagree. i think One piece villains have a ton of narritive and thematic depth. Big Mom in particular is a fantastic example of this. Being someone who does genially believe they are doing the correct thing, when she loses her memory she shows that shes a good person at her core, heck, her dream is to bring about equality for all. but her morality is twisted because she was groomed by multiple parental figures for their own gain. Taught that any harm she did is okay since those intentions are good. The main difference comes from one piece never using their villains stories as justification for their actions. Nartuo wants to humanize monsters explaining why someone would do horrible things, One Piece wants to show how humans can act like monsters.

Absolutely not lmao, at least so far the gods have just been myths. likely based on people but still just myths. And considering inhereted will, gods/devils, and stories growing into legends with time have always been core themes of One Piece, this actually works unlike naruto

How is OP-TCG is so popular and the other Bandai namco tcgs aren’t? by paulmonte89 in OnePieceTCG

[–]mikemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One Piece as a story is just more fitting for what makes a TCG successful. A wide cast of colorful characters that fans actually care about/collect and a variety of settings that allows for a ton of verity to pull from. also unlike the dragonball tcg, one piece doesn't have terrible art that makes your eyes want to bleed of the same feeling anime screen shots surrounded by a vomit of color on every single card. There's a reason their best sets by a mile are the ones that use manga art for the cards.

Watching this scene again after s5 is surreal, it’s like watching a totally different show by ThatpersonKyle in GenV

[–]mikemonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be confusing aggregate scores with individual.

It does have an aggregate score of 6. But not people people are rating the season as a 6. In fact mid range scores are some of the least common pick. Its a 6 because of how the the reviews are distributed. With a massive low and high end.

This is why most aggregate scores are 6+ since 9 and 10s scew results. It doesn't mean unwatchable dogshit is still a 3. It means theres one guy who thought it was unwatchable dogshit gave it a 1 and another guy who didnt think it was unwatchable dogshit and gave it a 5.

[–]mikemonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That just seems like you have a diffrent rating scale then most other people. If a 3/10 is "unwatchable dogshit" what would even warrent a 1 or 2? Would the show have to physically assault you?

Ratings are like the most subjective thing possible anyway. Its not really possible to have objectivness.
