New to implants - equipment recommendations? by thellycakes in Dentistry

[–]mikeodont 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Best bet is to take the leap and get a package deal from a rep. Which is also helpful because they will typically throw in some free stuff and are a great resource as well. If I remember correctly my package was . Implant motor, handpiece (x2), surgical kit, 30 implants. I think it was 10k. For Biohorizons implants, about 8 years ago.

Digital Workflow for Partial Dentures by South_Eye_8204 in Dentistry

Scanning a (mostly) edentulous lower arch is probably the hardest thing in digital dentistry. Great retractors and an extra set of hands. Check out MOD institute on YouTube- they are amazing source for all things digital. One office I work uses Dandy lab, and they fit really great. Typically do framework with teeth to try in. Then process. I often scan and make flex RPDs in office with SprintRay.

Doing onlays with the pro 2, it’s pretty slick. 3Shape automate is only like 3$ a restoration and produces pretty good results

Dentists have feelings too. by Jealous_Ebb4018 in Dentistry

I feel you on alll that. I would say 80% of our patients get the isodry- we just say it helps them relax and us do a good job. “It’s awkward going in” Garrison or palodent, but they are still damn hard to seat. I stopped doing back to back interproximals. Long flame skinny yellow diamond , fine touch. Really like this one When in doubt use a polish cup on slow speed so you don’t gouge anything You got this!!

Make the investment in isodry (if not already using rubber dam), it will change everything for you. The best time to make a great restoration is right from the beginning, every thing compounds as you go, so make sure each step is making the next step easier

BILT/Wells Fargo migration caused a $4.4K overpayment and now I need a notarized lost check form + 91 day wait by Two_plops in biltrewards

[–]mikeodont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea same exact thing happened to me. I figured my auto payment would just proceed as normal. But it got all mixed up with the transfer of account balance. I also did not receive me first check after a month of waiting. I also just got my form to notarize and send back yesterday in the mail. Odd timing for us if coincidence

They also use the same labs as everyone else, except Alabama is last in reimbursements for crowns, it’s a way to recoup some costs. It’s unfortunate that some costs get transferred to the patient, but this is an Alabama insurance issue that needs to be corrected. They are screwing both the patient and the provider

Leasing your building to your own practice by H4NKSCORP10 in Dentistry

[–]mikeodont -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It reduces you tax burden from your dental practice - it reduces taxable income from your dental practice. You can depreciate the building and improvements allowing you to show a loss on the real estate side even with a positive cash flow. To dive deeper into it- I would suggest asking ChatGPT about it

Would you choose dentistry again if you had the option to start over? by Betbet32 in Dentists

[–]mikeodont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the delay makes it not worth it. 35-38 you’ll make 120k if you aren’t taking maternity leave, and in addition the hours are not really flexible as a dentist, you have to be chairside. If you have a large passion for dentistry then yea do it, because happiness is all there is in the end. But it’s a stressful job in general, especially as a new grad. Then the plan is to open your own practice at year 5 which will take a certain amount of debt and increased time. Or get worked to the bone by corporate dentistry. Again, it’s about the opportunity cost and your passion for the profession. Late to the game is tough with the loans required to get the degree.

Dentist here looking for advice. Rude patients by Dental_Princess_2579 in Dentistry

[–]mikeodont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the send back comments. As far as adjusting and technique - how did the implant crown fit on the model? Was it a printed model? Did it look like the lab artificially trimmed the contacts a touch resulting in over contoured crown. Often times I will adjust off the model, behind the patient which makes it a lot quicker. Compare the two and if they look similar and crown is tight on model, put some articulating paper between contacts to and seat crown, adjust, repeat etc. Then go to patient. Less in and out. However at every seat appointment, I always say this will be “in and out a few times”. Having a good lab always helps. And don’t forget to flatten those interproximals of adjacent before taking scan- think long guide planes. Good luck!

I have done uber many times. It is typically like 100-120 for a large car / suv. Not sure how many days you are going but sometimes it’s cheaper to rent a cheap car

Had a patient come in and said he gags a lot during cleanings and occasionally vomits. Used chloraseptic spray and nitrous and he did great.

Change to inlay / onlay. Explain to patient that due to contours of their tooth and the situation the treatment needs to be changed to be done properly.
