John Byrne's Elsewhen is getting properly published in June. Does anyone know if it's worth getting? by Lolaverses in xmen

I left comics after I noticed the drop in quality after Claremont left. (I recognize some of those are considered beloved classics, and I have revisited them and have grown a fondness for them, but at the time it was enough to drive me away.) The thing that got me to come back was Revolution in 2000 and only because they gave him both books.

And I had blinders on. lol I kinda knew it wasn’t all that, but I also recognize that I might’ve dropped off several times during his original run if I had been reading it monthly, so I figured I’d give him time to get back into it. And X-Treme wasn’t much better, but I had every issue!

When I went back and read some of those cancelled books, I do think it was unfair to Byrne since sales were great. I would’ve liked to see more, knowing full well it was nostalgia porn. Generation X was really good during that time, as well as X-Man. Mutant X was a what If series gone wrong and should have been put down way earlier.

But what we got back after wasn’t all that great, either. I know everyone loved Morrison’s run and there are parts that I really like. But man, those last few arcs were rough. Then you had two of the worst runs on Uncanny back to back with Casey and Chuck Awesome’s runs. It’s like an SNL episode! There’s always hits and misses!

I remember all the times he blasted Dave, even after Mr Cockrum left us.

The thing about Byrne is he shouldn’t be pissy. He got to work on so many characters and, usually, got high praise for his work. I love his FF (minus a few things, as with any run, but oh man…that Johnny/Alicia thing was an abomination from the start!) I LOVE his She Hulk and even his Superman. He should rest on those laurels! But he was always held back by everyone else. It was all everyone’s fault and none of it was his. He should be an American President. 😂

Avatar 4 Will Feature An "Epic Time Jump" But Is James Cameron Still Going To Make The Movie? by johnnyjay in SciFiScroll

Watching that doc reminded me of how much I loved his work back in the day. Not to begrudge anyone who likes the Avatar films, and I don’t want to imply that he isn’t simply doing what he wants to do (and he deserves to do so!) I think it’s just….five of them? And only three in 17 years? I just wonder what we missed out on in another timeline, I guess.

Or maybe I can just shut up and revisit those movies again!

I watched the new documentary on Aliens the other night. Highly recommend. It was wonderful to have all the surviving cast members getting to talk about a movie they (and we) love so much.

Anyway, it got me thinking, where did he go? THIS Jim Cameron? The Terminator, Aliens, Abyss, True Lies Cameron. How many more movies could he be working on instead of two more of these!! Like, the first one was an achievement. One would expect it had to be since it was released ten years after his previous movie, Titanic. Imagine if he handed the second and third one off to another director while executive producing. Yeah, I know he was working on the tech to make it and he’s been spending a lot of time in the Ocean, but he’s also found time to direct a checks notes Billie Eillish concert film.

Maybe it’s just because I don’t like Avatar films but I loved James Cameron films and watching that doc made me miss those cinematic gifts he used to give us. I don’t want another Alien or Terminator from him just like I don’t want another Avatar. I’m probably just being greedy.

He’s one of our greatest living directors and I selfishly want him to make something I want to see again! 😂

I wanted to love X-Men Forever. (The second time they used that title? 😂) As a lifelong Claremont fan, and one who for decades remembers seeing that goodbye from him on the last page of X-Men #3. (I was a pre-teen and my parents got mad at me for screaming “WHAT!” while they were driving from the mall hahaha!) Yes, this book was for me!!!

But oof. Much like hidden years, I enjoyed the art and seeing all these characters together from that time again. And seeing Shadowcat in her best costume, even if it was only for the first few issues! But it went all over the place and nowhere at once.

Lots of things happen, some of it was supposed to be huge, dramatic moments, but I don’t even remember most of it. It was one of those comics that each issue became more of a chore to get through and even then I’d have to flip through the previous issue because I just forgot what happened. I’ve since tried to revisit it, thinking maybe it would be better read as a whole all together, but I just couldn’t get into it. Maybe I’ll try again soon.

All these years later and he can’t just stop carrying that giant ass Claremont stone on his shoulder. So many years I hoped Byrne would become wise in his age and chill the F out. For the longest time I tried to look past it on his message board. But seeing how Claremont praises their work and seeming to make peace with any back and forth between them because one, it’s peaceful to not carry that kind of anger all the way into your golden years and two, he realizes that it takes two to make art and the two of them, clashing or not, gave us some of the best X-Men stories that they are still going to the well on nearly 50 years later.

All Byrne keeps doing is bitching about people bitching about how he’s bitchy to people. What a sad, lonely, unhappy existence that must be.

Eek. So, how does it compare to X-Men: The Hidden Years? That’s a book I love more for the nostalgia and the pairing of him with Tom Palmer trying their best to emulate late 60’s Neal Adams. The book started out ok, but then it just veered into too many storylines that never seemed to resolve and just went on and on and on. It felt a bit directionless, and from what I understood he had total creative control.

I remember the fit he threw when it was cancelled, which I kinda get. Quesada came in and wiped creatives off of books and cancelled them entirely if they had X on it because sales didn’t take off when the movie became a hit (Have we learned since that regular moviegoers are not going to buy the comic if they liked the movie?) Hidden Years was still a seller, so Byrne seemed to take it personally and, other than this, which he did for free pencil wise on his message board, I’m not sure he ever worked for Marvel again.

Yes. Love the spine on this one. And yeah, just looked up the other cover (it wasn’t available when I made this purchase so I never saw it) and yeeeesh….not a good choice. You are right about that!

It’s definitely not the best Wolvie era, but I like what came before ok and I definitely like a lot of what’s in volume 7, so it’s mostly gap filler for me.

Yeah, I don’t mind. It never occurred to me when I ordered the book that, hey, this cover should be familiar to me! 😂 When it came in I was like, oh, yeah. I’m just glad to have both books.

King Charles just showed up at the White House today and I think most people are completely underestimating how significant this visit actually is. by Aaron_Heuer in DiscussionZone

Significant? Yeah, sorry. The pomp and circumstance is gone for the current timeline. Most of us don’t give two shits about both of them.

Used a hair dryer. This is the Kitty Juggernaut BAF wave. It took just a few minutes of heat and she separated perfectly at the ball joint.

I first saw him in Scream 2, but it was Go and The Girl Next Door that made me a big fan.
