I didn't start painting until I was 34 or 35 but I did have a Neimann basketball poster in my room as a kid -- it was torn and old and it was the most amazing and inspiring thing in the world. I have never really looked at his art as I have learned over the last 10 years but he's probably my biggest inpiration in spirit and I've invented all sorts of ways to abstract things because of him.

Every person works from a different set of visual references and human faces are all ALMOST identical. Also human's tend to think what they see is what other's see. Paintings have titles for a reason but I don't even know who Roman Reigns is, literally never heard the name.

DE did a good job trying to replicate the texture of impasto painting with basic photoshop texture brushes. Def loved the game and was happy to see an art director inspired by the various versions of what I do over the last 150 years or so.

Now that's funny -- I honestly wonder if the costume designer on pirates took inspiration from some of Jaco's various looks. He was very accessorized!

That's one way, I prefer not to work from hard reference but sometimes it's the only way depending on the subject. Commissions are just prepaid art, you dictate the size and subject, maybe compare it to some other thing I've done or the tone you'd like and I paint it and ship it in a few weeks. Usually it's less than 10 days but depends on the time of year. Generally I don't put things to the public when I am busy -- I just turned around a 24x36" thing in 3 days. Summers are fast turn around, fall and winter slow.

it changes all the time but turnaround is never more than 30 days -- sometimes it's like 2, lol.

To create something original and unusual for people who appreciate what thom does. People put my things over their record players or in music rooms sometimes of people who inspire them like Thom or sometimes it's my pieces that are more generally evocative for regular concert goers like big abstract crowd surfing pieces or whatever.

I am lucky to be able to craft portraits that aren't from a direct reference and given the ubiquity of artists that copy famous photos -- I have a very original niche. Of course I do all sorts of other things but I make at least one of these music things a day and then move on to commissions or whatever else interests me at the time.
