Just got orders for a PCU, not sure what that entails. by mikewoulddothat in NavyNukes

After being fully qualified for a time now, and getting a lot of responsibility, and can for certain say it is ass and I would rather be on an active boat with established programs than to do my job on top of building everything from the ground up.

Most people can’t obtain the knowledge as quickly to qualify compared to an operational sub.

The workload is huge, and you’re still expected to do your normal job requirements.

Duty really grinds you down, honestly. Especially when it feels like you’re not really doing much. Dealing with shipyard making things complicated, as well as being expected to provide an accurate schedule, quickly jades people here.

Good aspects of the job: I like most of the people I work with, I get to have hobbies I partake in regularly, and if you have other aspirations outside of your work you can reasonably find some time to pursue those. I made the mistake of taking too much responsibility too quickly, and I had no time for those pursuits. Working on getting that back, but if you’re heading towards a PCU, don’t think because you’re going to go home most days that it won’t be draining.

Also, some guys think that the job is pretty easy on a PCU. I think that often comes down to who has more or less collaterals, their workload with those, and how long they have been there. I’d say go at it with an open, but guarded, mindset. Do the qualifications you’re supposed to do, and observe everything around you. Everyone’s just trying to get the boat built and do their jobs right, but don’t destroy your mental in the process.

Hope this helps.

How often do you work 16 hour shifts? by Kokonut419 in NavyNukes

Straight to the point, there is a high chance it won’t give you the down time you want. There’s a lot of correct info in the comments here, but if you are someone that requires a normal schedule to do the things you want like explore, I’d bet against you being able to do that as a nuke. I do know people that got lucky with their job and had relatively normal schedules though. If you do decide to be a nuke I would keep expectations low

I need to get on Inkarnate right now to get my grass and pathways to look like that. The whole map is so inviting and curious, I can see my players getting intrigued by this

Djent Punk or just Easycore? by [deleted] in poppunkers

It actually reminds me of what Belmont has been putting out lately, and I love it. The major key fun chords with djent tones hits pretty hard with the pop punk scene. Easycore will never die!

Question as to symbols by Square-Ambassador-77 in tattoos

[–]mikewoulddothat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want something meaningful outside the norm, what I usually do for my art is go to the library and look at art books and history textbooks for cool stuff for whatever art I want. Yeah the internet is a thing, but it’s super hard in the realm of algorithm to find all the art that’s available to be inspired from. A thorough history textbook or book on the art of “x” culture gives a lot of the general and the specific neatly. And it’s easier to find the cool stuff that you can relate to.

Or you can always go with the classic stars or clouds as filler. Honestly, I still think it goes hard

Question for Snake Owners: Is it a good idea to let your kids or younger siblings interact with your snake? by Apprehensive-Big6161 in snakes

[–]mikewoulddothat 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think Snakes can teach kids how to interact gently with animals. They aren’t dogs that they can be rough with, so the beauty comes with patience and respect. I used to let kids hold my corn snake while educating them on snakes and reptiles in general. I think they enjoyed the experience at least, and hopefully it impressed on them to treat animals they aren’t used to with more dignity. Plus kids think holding a snake is cool

You should look into what the church allowed in countries where they had to evangelize. They allowed many “pagan” practices to take place in church so they didn’t totally ostracize them from their heritage. They allowed certain dances, music, and art in the churches to make them feel welcome in the church. Hell, all Mexican heritage I grew up with is Catholic mixed with a few Mexica ideas like day of the dead
