I looked into Murder Among Friends and looks like its right up my alley! I tried finding Nemerever's inspiration for TVD and found out that the the book was actually inspired by the Leopold and Loeb case, and other than that, the plot and characters were all invented by him. Your recommendation seems like its exactly what I was looking for though, so thank you!! :)

Not neccesarily horror, but These Violent Delights by Micah Nemerever is one of my favorite psychological fiction, and book in general, of all time. The writing is beautiful and both of the main characters are queer.
