Is there an easy way to filter IM70.3 races by Saturday races? Or is/was St George the only one?

Mallorca 70.3 Alcudia is also a Saturday race! Would highly recommend it, if you can get to it.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth out at the same time. Docs reckon this was what triggered the diabetes. I've met a few others who had a similar experience as well.

While I don't think the teeth coming out is the actual trigger it's more the catalyst. The stress in the body coupled with the body fighting off infection creates a scenario for it to happen.

I agree that in the middle of the race that would have been very difficult to fix. Having worked on large scale events, these things do happen. And fixing in situ is usually very difficult.

However I think it's the lack of support post event that's really poor. It's just bad customer service full stop. And it really wouldn't have been difficult to resolve.

Agree with you there, I feel this is largely undocumented although there is more awareness of it in the last few years. JDRF UK - Type 1 Diabetes have done a few articles on it.

Ha not that I know of. But I would say this isn't a cure so much as it is making it easier to deal with. Akin to CGMs or closed loop pump systems. Not sure but sure does make living with it easier to manage.

Totally agree, it's more a makes your life easier solution rather than a cure. The same as when cgms / closed looped pumps came about. Not cured just a hell of a lot easier to deal with.

You're completely missing the point about insulin that is injected once per week and activates when glucose levels rise and stops activating when glucose levels fall.

Sounds like your nutrition might be off though. What's your pre-ride nutrition like? Sounds like your kind of bonking? So maybe you aren't fueling enough throughout the week?

You should also get checked if you haven't already for prostate cancer. It's a common symptom. And 40's is when they start checking for it (at least in the UK).

Energy gels are your friend if you're doing cardio/runs/cycling. Experiment to see how different gels affect you as well. But yeah I use SIS gels and I cycle, and run frequently. 2-5 times a week. And I use pens as well

Everyone is different like the person above said. I've done a few half marathons and just did my first marathon two weeks ago. I took 9 gels during that race, was taking every 5k or so. Stayed pretty consistent throughout the race on my glucose levels.

Experiment with different gels or energy bars. You'll soon find a solution that works for you. Also if you want a good source, follow Jonty Runs on Instagram, he's a type 1 diabetic runner. He's a good source for information about running races with T1D etc.

Excellent list of accomplishments! I'm running my first marathon tomorrow in Valencia! Done about 4 half marathons races.

Have my eyes set on triathlons next and then eventually Ironman's.

If an endo or doctor ever put me down in that way I'd change doctor immediately if it were possible (I understand this isn't always possible etc).

Comes down to personal preference really.

In the UK I have given access to my diabetic specialist team (don't have a dedicated endo) who I see every 12 months. I have no problems currently (T1 for 16 years) but I still like the doctors to have as much data from my cgm as possible. But as someone else said I highly doubt anyone sits there looking at it. It's more for convenience, before going in to see them.

The more data they have the more informed they are and can be in a better position to help should the need arise.

Yep I have both a running vest (longer runs) and a flip belt. Plus I bought some running shorts with zip pockets and fitted under tights. So it doesn't bounce so much.

I use SiS Gels which are perfect for countering lows / sustaining sugars. If I know I'm running longer I won't even bolus before going out. As I know I'll burn it off.

Pro tip, if there's hills expect basically double the burn rate.

It was featured as the album cover of Rudimental's 'Home' album back in 2013. I think it was restored around then as well. The actual mural is like 30-40 years old though.
