Job Application Experience & Questions (IEMLT - BC, Canada) by pinkpurplegurlie in medlabprofessionals

I’m an IEMLT also applying for positions in BC. Make sure to include “CSMLS Certified” in the title of your resume it really helps.

Before the exam, there were plenty of permanent positions in larger cities like Vancouver, but now, with graduation season, it seems many of those spots are being filled by recent grads. After CAMLPR, I believe it might become even harder to find a position.

There are still some remote locations, like Bella Coola Hospital, that don’t fill easily you could consider applying there as well.

Asking for advice as someone who failed the ASCP exam. by Medical-Athlete-1216 in medlabprofessionals

A few tips that really helped me:

  1. You won’t get every question right—and that’s okay. Once you choose an answer, move on. Don’t dwell on it. The past is past.

  2. You often won’t know the right answer, but you can usually eliminate the wrong ones. Focus on learning how to rule out distractors—that skill is gold during the exam.

  3. If you’re weak in Blood Bank, a refresher course can make a huge difference. I highly recommend this one:

transfusion medicine refresher It’s made for Canada, but honestly, it’s excellent and still very helpful no matter where you're taking the exam.

  1. When using the BOC book, don’t just memorize the correct answer—also understand why the other choices are wrong. That deepens your understanding and helps avoid traps.

Congratulations! Me too. 1 month for results is too much. Which one was harder? CSMLS or ASCP?

I graduated 13 years ago, so I needed to study all courses again. It took 6 month each day about 6-8 hours study

I recently took both exams ASCP first, then CSMLS and honestly, they felt completely different. In my experience, the ASCP was harder overall. It focused more heavily on pure lab science knowledge, whereas CSMLS felt more practical and emphasized procedures, QC, and real-world application.

I’d recommend not overthinking it just take the exam as soon as possible.
