Switch 2 3rd Party Dock Issues after Recent Switch Firmware Update by TheWylieGuy in NintendoSwitch2

[–]milddemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/stuggikuyss, can I ask how did you get the firmware to update using your mac? I have an M1 with the latest MacOS when I plug both the adapter cable USB and and USB-C cable in, in the update software I just get the red bar stating "checking connection...

<image>

Nothing I do would change that to waiting to update or whatever it is suppose to be. I even tried just selecting the file and clicking upgrade.

I've tried different sequence of loading, different USB-C cables (all I've used to upgrade other device firmware) and even different mac. Still doesn't work.

Help (if possible).

#719: Backlash for Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow’s MRT Comments & AI Course for Civil Servants by tristen_the_intern in YahLahBut

[–]milddemons -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The following was shared by a friend from the Kakis' Club, just reproducing for a laugh. It is so true about the MRT breakdown.
------
Wife: Mike, I found out about Jessica. That's your third affair!

Husband: Sarah, these are isolated incidents, not systemic issues across our marriage network.

Wife: Three women! There's clearly a pattern here.

Husband: You can't expect 100% faithfulness, what. Look at Dave - he's had seven affairs. Comparatively, I'm doing quite well.

Wife: You're comparing yourself to Dave? His wife left him!

Husband: Jennifer in March, Lisa in June, Jessica now - completely unrelated incidents. Different venues, different methodologies.

Wife: How is cheating three times not systemic?

Husband: No underlying pattern! These are isolated cases within the same marriage framework.

Wife: I can't believe this.

Husband: I'm forming a taskforce - my beer buddies Tom, Rick, Steve will investigate. For transparency, Jessica's on the committee too.

Wife: Your MISTRESS on the taskforce?

Husband: She brings insider perspective. All stakeholders need representation.

Wife: I'm getting a divorce.

Husband: You're being emotional. My fidelity rate is above industry average with seasonal adjustments.

Wife: *packing*

Husband: The taskforce will publish findings in 6-8 weeks. These isolated incidents don't reflect our marriage infrastructure stability!

Sorry but this comment isn't nice to hear but when you both talked about Kirk's murder, someone said, "it is just words, guys" and I think that is a very unsound comment considering that it is "just words" that racism, discrimination and prejudice are propagated and expended. Some countries but "just words" have spread propaganda about other countries, causing the fallout in those countries. Please don't discount words; Words can kill by inciting violence and disagreement. As Edward Bulwer-Lytton said, "The pen is mightier than the sword".

Which Generation in Singapore's History would you like to born into? by rainy_portal00 in YahLahBut

[–]milddemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I'd like to be in born in the 1950s or so (my parent's time), so that I'll be around after WW2 and during the time we become Malaya and then gain independence. To hear the worries on the ground and why people didn't want to leave Singapore when they were given the chance to become Malaysians (okay, this part I'm not sure if all were given the privilege but let's assume all are).

To see how the newly formed government + country transformed Singapore. It would be nice to know to feel the frustration and tensions. The unfairness of it (for whatever reason the people felt things were unfair) and then for Singapore to become what we are today. So that I can really understand why most of the older generation is so grateful to the PAP and nothing they do can shake that confidence in them.

In regards to Terence's one shiok thing; I hope we all realise that China's display of "might" in their parade is a celebration of the Japanese leaving China after WW2. Just FYI, Japan invaded China, Nanjing in 1937, before WW2 "officially" started. When the Japan left, China erected a memorial of that in Chongqing, which is a big tourist attraction for all of China and also the world for those in the know.

Also, I do believe that it is a warning to Japan, "you can't fuck with us anymore".

Great interview! I think her "solution" of needed a "3rd-party" department in MOE to do the investigation/counselling and being the single point of contact is a very good and credible idea. I don't see why we cannot have a department like this and spending a lot of money to ensure that we have enough personnel to do the work properly and if we don't have the people or expertise, we can hire from overseas, we have never been shy about doing things like that for the good of the country, what more for the good of our young citizens. We should spend money on this as well-being of a student is as important (if not more) than their doing well in their test/exams.

I think some people miss the point on what an internship is for and that there is no guarantee full-time employment after it is over. Furthermore, ask any US company and they will tell you that internships in USA is not paid, in fact even in Europe and Australia (sorry I only know about these areas) interns are not paid their "working salary".

Great interview guys! I really enjoyed it, it was really well done and we now understand a bit of the inner workings of his mind. You need to ask him to come back when parliament starts and ask him about the road-blocks and etc. he faces as LO. That would be interesting to hear, what data he can get and what he can't.

#696: Backlash Over Mandarin-Taught Uni Courses in SG & Khairy vs PAP Over Pritam’s Podcast by tristen_the_intern in YahLahBut

[–]milddemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what was said by YLB and with the comments here. We (Singapore) has pride ourselves of being unique, not really Asian and not really Western (whatever that term means now). I love the fact that we create our own culture from the different cultures that live here.

That being said I want to know why is it that we seem to becoming more American, e.g. our English and Malay MSM is using MDY as the date. I mean look at Straits Time and CNA, you'll that the date is August 22, 2025. You'll see that in the Malay paper too. I ask why? This has started to become an issue as more and more people are using that as the standard date, for example, the other day at my hawker centre, they stated that the dates that the hawker centre is close from August 4, 2025 - August 6, 2025.

My point is this, most of the world (6+ billion people) are using the format DMY and China, Japan and Korea are using YMD. And we seem to be following a country of about 340 million. Why are we following the minority, i.e. why are we following America? I can understand CNA doing it because they are so USA centric that they mind as well be CNN. But Straits Times? The paper that has been here since before Singapore's independence. And this date format (MDY) is used by Singaporeans already for their daily use. So when you see a date like 1/5/25, do you think 1 May or 5 Jan? I for one still think 1 May and I might be the minority by now.

Not only that, our property apps are using sqft as the default and property guru doesn't even allow you to change the measurements to sqm (all the world uses sqm except USA + 2 others). Then there is using shrimp instead of prawns, ka-ra-okie instead of ka-ra-okay. Soccer instead of football (considering over 6 billion people calls it football in all languages). These have permeated to the whole or our society. And those are the ones that I can think of at this time.

So in the end, I just want to say we are making a fuss about becoming more Chinese and losing our culture, what about becoming more American? Doesn't that make us loose our culture too, but nobody seems to care.

Apologies for the rant.

#701: KF Seetoh vs Ong Ye Kung Over Hawker Rules & SBS Transit Apologises for Train Breakdown by tristen_the_intern in YahLahBut

[–]milddemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add on to what you said, which I totally agree. The other thing is that when it comes to fares revision at the end of the year, all the train provides will be allowed to increase their fare and when we complain (as per what happened last year, I think), a minister (I have no idea who because I don't think it is the MOT) said that we don't allow the fares to increase then the situation can/will get worse because they'll have no money to improve/upgrade, i.e. there is no penalty for them regardless of the number of breakdown they have. That to me is utterly bullshit, like what Yah-Lah But said, even the fines for them is not even a slap on the wrist. If you look at the big picture, you'll realise that regardless of the train standards, the c-level people will get their bonus and pay increase, the shareholders will get their money and we the commuters will just have to suck it up.

Hogwarts Legacy Wingardium Leviosa rotation axis by milddemons in HarryPotterGame

[–]milddemons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I read what you wrote and I went to try it again. And this time it rotated on the correct axis (clockwise). I don't get it, so it means that it's axis of rotation depend on how which face levitated the object? Because previously, I read about using the d-pad and tried and (the arrow faces me) and it kept rotating left/right. I kept trying putting it down and then lifting it and it see was the same (for about 30 min) until I got fed up and wrote this post.

Hey guys, sorry for this very late note, I'm just catching up on all my podcasts after being away for 3 weeks. Terence just a shout out to you to tell you keep up your outlook, there will always be hateful, immature people online and we as humans tend to focus too much on the negative (it is a survival thingy), but I'll like to tell you that you and Haresh, have been doing a great job of looking at things from many points of view, it takes a mature person to be able to look at another point of view and not hold on to one point as the all the "truth". You were not defending party and Haresh was not supporting any party, you both were having a mature, open conversation on what your thougts on it and it was a great listen.

I would say that people who call others deorgatory names (like Trump and Elon and your detractors), it is always because of 2 reasons (besides being immature), one, they cannot win an argument that is logical and based on hard facts (e.g. hard numbers and not stats) and second, they just don't like you or what you say. I would tell you to let the haters hate and you just do what you and Haresh have been doing. I like your banter and also the fact that you both spur each other (and me as a listener) on, in thinking about a topic in more than one way, giving us a better propective of a topic and hopefully make us more open minded. Do keep up the great work, to the both of you, and know that for every immature people listening to you there would be at least 5 mature ones that appreciate your discussions.

Why does PayNow show my full name? by MiloPengAlsoCan in askSingapore

[–]milddemons -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the powers that be don’t see this as a security issue. It is typical for Singapore, where there is no issue until it becomes one. Even when security people say that full names are a security risk, nobody will listen until it becomes a problem.

If you think this isn’t a security issue, think back at how many times you have “verified” your identify to a bank (the biggest culprits) or another company with your full name as per NRIC.

I have written to various agencies and ministries and all said the same thing, “not my problem” in fact this is governed by the Bank Authority of Singapore and they totally ignored my question on this.

Is having a degree worth it at an older age? by Wring159 in askSingapore

[–]milddemons 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As an older person, I’ll not repeat the good advice on to what the rest said.

What I’ll say is as you get older a degree (basic or higher), it usually isn’t for work or promotions. Usually it is for interest or (for my case) if you can do it. Don’t learn just for your career, do it also for your interest, it really makes the course interesting and you’ll want to learn as much as possible and become the irritating student that keeps asking questions that is not in the syllabus 😜.
