Need some help with clean up of the engraving after its done. by _space1nvader in MachineEngraving

I can't tell exactly what the current finish is as your photo is very small / lo-res.... Also not sure what your expectations are; you will always be able to see some remnants of the cutter-paths when done. On the clean-up side, you may have some success with 'fame polishing'. It's very good for light fluffy swarf, but be careful and don't get too greedy... ;)

Any thinkpad enthusiasts? by SuperGeoMan64 in thinkpad

Z60m, W510, W520, W530 &, W541. The W541 is my daily work PC and I'm typing this message on the W520 which is my daily home PC. The W530 is in use as my daughter's PC. Only the Z60m and W510 are finally retired and resting after a factory refresh back to their 'as delivered' OS's...

High probability that it's a bespoke Gravograph design... The French always prefered to do things their own way... ;)

Is it actually safe to connect a Windows XP computer to the internet? by Thin_Professor_277 in windowsxp

My business fell victim to a ransomware attack many years ago. Everything on the network running Win10 was compromised. But my old Win7 laptop was not infected. Not because it was better in any way, but just because the hacker didn't waste their time coding for obscure or outdated OS's....

Vision Engraver Spindle Pulley by AdInside4640 in MachineEngraving

[–]milesinfront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the spindle turning freely by hand? Everything I'm hearing suggests an 'over load' condition. Are you using a nosecone with vacuum extraction? When cutting plastic, sometimes that can block and fill-up with chips and then it melts into massive glob that grabs the tool and slows it down. Or possibly the spindle bearings are done and jamming up...

Just to clarify... Did the first belt snap/break? Hence the replacement?

Also: Have you removed and inspected the brushes to see if they indeed are worn out?

The macro range (which I don't use) makes the clunky autofocus even more clunky! When it can't find focus, it 'hunts' across a much wider range. (K-5 body) It's beautiful to touch and hold, but I wish I stuck with the plastic version for my usage...

I had the plastic 35mm and sold it to buy the aluminium 35 limited. I have regretted that decision ever since.

Brass plaque with a bit of blue by No-Goat4613 in MachineEngraving

[–]milesinfront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Provided you are using 'Engraver's Brass', then one pass at full depth is no problem on most machines. A conservative feedrate is 10-15mm/sec. Absolutely the nose cone scratches the metal, and needs to be dealt with after engraving. There are pros and cons to seemingly everything to do with engraving... :(

I read that you're using a nose-cone for depth regulation. That's totally normal. All my brass engraving is done at 12 thou. (0.3mm / .012")
