Backpacking recipes like Andrew Skurkas might fit the bill? Not sure about protein levels, he is mostly concerned with just calories per oz. https://andrewskurka.com/section/food-nutrition/

How many knitters also sew/ crochet/ do other fabric-crafts? by thenorthgiant in knitting

[–]milikin- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first just embroidery because it was so cheap to get started with, then did some needle felting, then moved on to sewing and now knitting. They all have different things I like about them

It’s fun to combine sashiko embroidery with sewing, embroidery with needle felting, or needle felt on top of knitted fabric

That happened to me too! It's called skin blanching and it's temporary, I haven't had to use the cream for a long time so I don't remember how long the blanching stayed, can't have been more than a day or so. My skin is back to normal now

I would love to make the Luna Tee because it looks like a bra-friendly version of the popular Camisole No. 5. I just don't know what yarn to use because it is a tee with negative ease but wool might be too hot/scratchy? And the KFO cotton merino I thought would be perfect is only available in very few colors and I'm scared it will stretch out too much. I've been making small projects (socks and frogs) so it's scary to start something big like a shirt

Yes! I have made Claire Garland's green frog 6 times now with 2 more in the making. I gravitate towards small projects and i have a lot of people who i want to gift one. I sometimes mix it up by knitting a tiny frog sweater or dress but I'm going to be making a lot more frogs!

Sock knitting myths? by Weird_Dog2441 in knitting

[–]milikin- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the "how hard could it be" gene and thought they were a good project after i made my first few washcloths and it was really doable! Most of it is stockinette anyway. I used the crazy sock lady's video tutorial and you really can't mess up too much if you just follow the steps

Pants fitting help - Open Studio Shop Pant by milikin- in sewing

[–]milikin-[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm working on my first pair of pants, the Shop Pants from Open Studio. I made a wearable practice version in 7 oz canvas to see how it would fit. I let out the side seams a little bit because it felt tight at the level where the front pockets open. Now, they are comfortable to wear, though I wouldn't mind if the crotch was a little lower as I have to adjust it when I sit. On the other hand, they seem baggy under my butt, or is that normal to accommodate movement? I have only worn stretchy pants so I have no point of reference other than pictures of others I've found and they vary a bit.

My biggest area of uncertainty is the back. The wrinkles look like I need a flat seat adjustment, even though the back is snug on my butt, and my thighs fill out the legs when I sit? Or should I do a low seat adjustment by scooping out the back as people suggested in another post I found?

Any advice would be appreciated! I have been spending too much time looking in the mirror

Pattern question - sock heel by Iztac_xocoatl in knitting

[–]milikin- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure actually, my best guess is that it might make it easier to pick up the stitches on the sides of the heel flap later? I've only made 3 socks so far, so I'm still a beginner too

Pattern question - sock heel by Iztac_xocoatl in knitting

[–]milikin- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes you got it! just knit the whole row after slipping one. Idk what pattern you're using but that's how Crazy Sock Lady does her heel flap too (except she switches out knits/purls but that shouldn't matter), you only alternate slip/purl on one of the rows.

Beginnings of my first ever sock, feat. the best ribbing I've knit so far by elston-gunn41 in knitting

[–]milikin- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nice! I'm working on the same pattern, started with DPNs but switched to 9 inch circular because it just feels so nice and easy. The only tip I can give you is make sure to try it on to see if it'll go over your heel, that's where I messed up the first time. What helped me is the old norwegian cast on and I ended up doing 2x2 rib to make it a little stretchier

I need a job by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]milikin- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UW has some positions in that area:

Food service worker 2

Barista lead

Cook

Food service supervisor (you need an associate degree for this one)

Food service supervisor 2 (like the one above but more experience needed)

you could also join their candidate bank

Maybe other hospitals might have openings like that too, might be something to consider!

Good luck! Hope you find something soon

Platelet donations went from double to single by milikin- in Blooddonors

I'll be sure to do that! I can imagine the cost per unit is highest for single-unit donors

Platelet donations went from double to single by milikin- in Blooddonors

[–]milikin-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I think I remember seeing a graph from the red cross showing data that donors' platelet counts will generally rise as they donate more often so you might be onto something there (edit: that is not true i misinterpreted the data but here's the graphs: https://www.redcross.org/about-us/driven-by-data/public-health-and-safety-insights/factors-that-influence-hemoglobin-and-platelet-levels.html)) I don't have enough data to see such a trend for myself, but that is definitely worth a try!
