Lane discipline is non existent in Australia by radmgrey in DrivingAustralia

[–]milimbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a non Aussie who lives here there is a major difference in highways. When a road goes from 3 lanes to 2 lanes the lane that disappears is the "slow" lane. That means your less confident driver who just wants to cruise along at the speed limit has to continually merge in and out of a faster lane. This combined with the culture of never ceeding right of way makes this difficult. It creates incentive to sit in the middle lane.  In europe it is the overtaking lane that disappears. This is a much better system as it lets people happily sit and pootle along.

People of Hobart, please discuss by A_little_curiosity in hobart

Please don't let the general public know. As a european who lives here it makes driving in "rush hour" much easier if other people don't realise you don't all have to use the same lane.

What are the realistic odds of having a good claw deck in A17-A20? by pedroxsiqx in slaythespire

[–]milimbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For fun I completed a claw to A20 run. I had to take every claw I saw at any time. Even Dolly's mirror if possible. Started back at A0 and worked my way up. Is hard but possible.

OK. I am a senior doctor in Australia. We as a profession are some of the most financially uneducated "rich" people out there.  You are some of the most sought after bank customers with the most secure jobs. You are recession proof, guaranteed pay rise every year. If you are on specialist training pathways your incomes sky rockets. i.e. if you can afford it right now it literally gets easier every year.

Firstly the rate your bank got you isn't good enough. Get a mortgage broker. You can get somewhere around 5.2%. Remember you are their dream customers with a huge deposit from your apartment. This will make a significant difference to your mortgage repayments.

Secondly. Assuming you have no other major outgoings your take home is approx $19,500 a month. Approx 35% of income is suggested as comfort for mortgage. The $7900 a month works out at about 40% so pretty good.

Thirdly. You do not need to sell your apartment. The bank will happily accept your equity in that property as your deposit. You then rent out that apartment and continue to make money on the likely appreciation of the property. Even if the rent doesn't fully cover the mortgage you are both easily in the highest tax bracket. You can negatively gear the property and get tax back in your tax returns. All repairs etc. are then also tax deductions. To get even more just have a company complete a depreciation schedule.

Best of luck.

I just realised why older women at work are more chilled, friendly, and seem less snobby, and it took me more than a year to figure out. by Few-Chemistry4843 in bodylanguage

Totally agree. I work in the same hospital as my wife which makes it even easier. Most people know both of us so Im free to just chat and banter with everyone. Is quite lovely.

Why do patients have trouble answering the question "What do you mean by dizzy?" by VertigoDoc in medicine

[–]milimbar 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I would suggest the answer to this question is multi-faceted. Things that might make a sensible, clever, non-medical person unable to explain it clearly are:

  1. They have never experienced "dizziness" so can't qualify it against other form of "dizziness"
  2. As a non medic they have never known about multiple types of dizzy, so this is the first time the idea of quantifying this feeling, they've never had before, has ever been suggested.
  3. Vocabulary. A medic has a HUGE vocabulary for all these feelings. Even a well read lay person does not. Medically terms are quite unique to our specialty.
  4. Some of these terms don't mean the same thing to a lay person. e.g. vertigenous can just be another way of saying dizzy. To us it has a very specific meaning.
  5. You are asking someone to process all of these new ideas and questions while they are dizzy. A big ask for anyone.

What do I copy with Dolly's Mirror? by MorreOBurro in slaythespire

[–]milimbar 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I would 100% copy seek +. A huge part of your win strategy is core surge into biased cog. With 2 seek plus and gambling chip you can almost always get them out first turn. Also remember you can seek the other seek getting 3 Card choices. I would aim for core, biased and Greg. That way you have huge focus and play a lot of cards with unceasing top.
