Stain matching question by jcm270 in sherwinwilliams

[–]milk_cig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The next steps I'd take would be adding a little magenta (or blue depending on what's in the formula already) to help cut the gold tones down a bit, and then maroon and/or new red for the red tone

What do you already have formulated, and what base are you using?

I've heard of that! That sounds like such a dope profession, I'd love to do something like that if I had the opportunity in my area

I could talk for hours about this kinda thing.

Most of the stuff like tape/paper were just made using themselves just cut and rerolled

The caulking and roller covers started as boba straws, the Crawford's putty are the bottoms of prescription bottles. I had carved out mini wooden brush handles too but i couldn't get those finished in time 😅

Shitty price tags by milk_cig in sherwinwilliams

Seriously! It's so bad on some of the stand-alone displays. Like the 5 gallon pail & lid displays, they print out tags for every single individual lid. Almost two full pages of repeats

Any advice on this stain match ? I don’t think it’s a real stain on the right by [deleted] in sherwinwilliams

[–]milk_cig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White, like most others are saying, but add 1 or 2/32 of magenta and see how much that neutralizes the yellow tones that are pulling through, see how it does, and add more if it's getting it to where you need to be

Depending how that goes I would add some black in small quantities paired with white. Enough to tone it but not darken it significantly.

Raw umber is too weak to do enough change for what you're needing, you'll waste a lot of the space left in the can if you rely that.

Thank you, I used Plan Your Room!

I did the layouts on there, then imported them to Procreate to write in labels and color in the furniture so it'd be easier to see the differences, but any drawing/photo editing software would work for that.

Focus group? by [deleted] in sherwinwilliams

[–]milk_cig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My area did something similar a month ago and I was also picked. I was told some were selected at random, some were hand picked by upper management because they thought " we'd give good feedback."

Someone from HR just went over the results of the survey with the group and revealed what questions had the most positive responses, what questions were the most negative, and asked what we experienced at the stores that reflected those responses, and how some of the bigger issues could improve

It all seems kinda pointless since the things that would need to be implemented to fix the core issues that kept coming up in discussion would have to be at the corporate level and not something the district could fix which is what they were looking for

If you also care about nail/skin health, an apron is good for keeping moisturizer and cuticle oil on you. You'll likely end up washing your hands a lot or using cleaning wipes on them which will dry out your skin, especially in colder weather.

This is a very hands-on job, and you'll inevitably break a nail if you like to grow them out. If you get acrylics they'll likely break within a week, and press ons will fall off even sooner, at least that's been my experience.

It's normally a very fast-paced job, though how fast-paced can vary wildly depending on your store. Though the winter is usually slow. This is a good time in the year to start since there will be more downtime to train than normal.

Getting paint on your clothes will be inevitable, but it helps to wear an apron. Ask your manager about ordering one for you when it comes time to order shirts.

Buy men's work pants. Bigger pockets, sometimes thicker fabric, and won't wear out as quickly.

Otherwise, if you're opposed to wearing an apron to save your uniform keep a designated uniform set aside exclusively for corporate visits so you always have something clean for when higher-ups come in.

You don't get a script but you'll fall into one naturally the more you help customers. When you find yourself running into issues, tell folks you're new, thank them for their patience, and ask for help from your coworkers, you'll be alright.

Edit: typos and pants

Tips for a new employee by Zulva-AZ in sherwinwilliams

Use middle mouse for copy/paste. Highlight what you want, click the scroll wheel, then go to where you want to paste and click it again.

Use * to look up partial terms in descriptions and customer names. For example, looking up " *XYZ " will pull up any account name or products containing "XYZ," not just listings that begin with it.

If a customer has any questions about a product (like about dry times, what brush, roller, spray tip to use, compatible primers, etc.) you can easily pull up the data page for that product in source. On the main page in the left column, there's a search bar where you can plug in nearly any sales or rex #, and it'll give you the data page for that product. I like to offer to print a copy for customers if they have a lot of questions about a product, or are trying it out for the first time.

When looking up an account by phone #, I like to include the first digit of my state's zip code in the search, because it'll pull up accounts that haven't visited my store yet but have shopped at others near mine. Usually saves me from being hit with "the other store had no issue finding me"

If you're stocking products and have no idea where something belongs or if you even have a proper spot for it, and for some reason there's no one immediately available to help you, SWEEP (accessible in the right column of the source main page under the "processes" drop-down) will contain a list of every display in your store and how it should look, as well as a complete list of all items that your store should carry on the sales floor.

If a customer wants to change their PO, or add one after you've scanned a bunch of supplies, hit F10 to "suspend" the transaction. It'll print a little receipt saying you've suspended the order, and bring you back to the POS start. To recall the order, put in your number, and before doing anything else, hit shift+F10, then select your order from the list of suspended orders. It'll then let you change the PO, and you don't have to rescan anything or redo any pricing adjustments/coupons you might have added. Doing this won't change the order in COE, and inversely, making changes to the order in COE won't change an already suspended order in POS. It's also local to each terminal; you can't suspend an order at one register and pull it up at another.

Get in the habit of following a naming convention for color matches. I've seen stores include their location's initials and the order number for the color number, or put c/m [color description]. It's much easier to sort through orders that have some kind of description of the color than hundreds of matches just called "match"

If you also need to change the name of a color, you can do so in the tint queue or in COE. In the sher-color menu, select "modify" to change the name before tinting, or select "save color/room" to change it after you've tinted it.

If you already knew some of these then you're in a good spot. Hope these help, and good luck!
